Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s not hopeless, and we’re not helpless.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

This country desperately needs a functioning Fourth Estate.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

I was promised a recession.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Parcells Coming to Atlanta

Not a big football fan myself, but this seems to be good news:

Bill Parcells said he’ll probably accept an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become the National Football League team’s vice president of football operations, ESPN reported.

Parcells said he has no plans to return to coaching, the network reported on its Web site. He said he’d oversee rebuilding the football team, including hiring a coach to replace Bobby Petrino, who quit after 13 games. Parcells, who led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl championships, quit as coach of the Dallas Cowboys in January.

Again, not a fan (more of a hockey kinda guy) but I recognize the positive economic impact of a winning NFL franchise. Atlanta could certainly use all the help we can get. Can Parcells pull it off?

More of a Hockey kind of guy? So where’s the hockey blogging? We have Ygleisas and his annoying basketball posts nobody cares about, everyone does football and baseball, I would love to see some hockey talk on a few ‘big-name’ blogs.

He’ll bring a sense of gravitas, but unless he gets a starting quarterback and an improved defense, it won’t matter much.

I’m not sure how much of an impact parcells will actually have on the franchise. From what i’ve been reading, he’s not going to take the GM role, so he’s not going to necessarily have a big role in drafting, trades, signing free agents, etc. and he’s not going to be coaching either. it’s all going to come down to who he recruits to be the new GM (assuming Rich McKay leaves, which seems likely) and who they hire to replace Petrino.

    Just asking.

Big Tuna has built winning teams everywhere he went but seems to have been born under a wandering star cuz he can’t stay in one place.

Atlanta has the makings of a good team – it’s just that Arthur Blank put all his stock in Vick. With Parcells the team’ll probably diversify its portfolio and invest in an actual team and management and operations.

I see nothing but clear skies and sunshine for the Falcons.

Unless Norbizness’s vision comes to fruition. Then the Falcon’s are hosed. Good times regardless!

Don’t make fun of Hoss, it’s not his fault that he had more heart than talent. I felt sorry for him when he was with the Raiders because of the beatings he took.

The real question is will they start watering the lawn at the stadium with Brawndo next year when Atlanta’s out of water?

He resurrected a horrendous Patriots franchise, made the Jets pretty darn good, and got the Cowboys to the playoffs. And he’ll always be best known for what he did with the Giants. So I’d be happy, if I were a Falcons fan.

But PNitty’s point, about his small role, is worth bearing mind.

My understanding is that he will be _above_ McKay in the hierarchy. He talks about McKay being “welcome” to stay or finding someone to replace him if he goes. Parcells job seems to be “get us some talent evaluators, get us a coach and for God’s sake, get us a QB (and maybe an OL if you can.)”

Atlanta’s getting the best possible deal. Parcells can still put together a team (see Cowboys, Dallas), but shouldn’t be anywhere near the actual players at this point.

Good move for everyone, I think.

Rumor in the ozone that Parcells is playing Arthur Blank off a group trying to buy the Dolphins. With the Dolphins he could get a part of the franchise. Either way he’ll die rich.

Sorry, man. Parcells isn’t coming to Atlanta. ESPN is reporting Miami upped their offer.

Nice try by Blank, though. Better to shoot for the stars than to bring in mediocre talents and confirm your franchise is on the slide.

You need to update. Parcells is going to go f-ck up the Dolphins instead.

What is the f-cking hype about this guy? The last Super Bowl he won was two wars ago. He couldn’t do crap with a Cowboys team last year that is this year about ready to reach the Super Bowl (with mostly the same players). Nearly every other team since he coached the Patriots have been better off without him. I’ve watched this guy screw over the Bucs ownership. Twice. With two different owners. The only difference between Parcells and the other walkin’ dudes of Saban and Petrino is that Parcells actually won a few championships. Seriously. Go read Easterbrook’s TMQ article this past Tuesday about the myth of the Supercoach. None of these guys are worth this much stress.

Bill’s first move should be to sign Drew Bledsoe. Seriously. Then he just has to gut it out a while with the slooooowest QB this side of the Pecos. As soon as every last fan is disgusted and howling for the heads of Parcell and Bledsoe on a stick, you spring the backup on them. Hey, it worked for the Pats and the Cowboys. If it fails here, well, at least there’s great fun to be had watching him treat the media like dirt. I think that’s where Preznit W got the idea actually.

If your team starts talking about Parcells, look out. Remember what he did to Tampa Bay? Dungy turned that team around, but they never let him get to the next step. The owners were talking to Parcells, thought they had him in the bad, and let Dungy go.

Parcells went on to sign with Dallas. Of course he quit there when the going got tough, sort of like he did with the Jets.

I’m glad Tony got another chance and made good with a ring. But Parcells is just a big money suck for no benefit whatsoever.
