The “we” is a tad bit optimistic, eh? I’m not sure how many more times my keyboard can be de-Coked after a Andrew or Jake posting. And I’m supposed to keep writing stupid shit for 1800+ more days? Do you realize how much stress this responsibilty adds to my life?

More importantly, do you really think Bra and Panties Publishing will be around for 5 more years?

    Outrageous!!!!
Gun nut trying to swiftboat prominent historians.

Now, I ordinarily wouldn’t see much point to embarrassing these people by pointing out that they were taken in by this tenured conman–after all, many professional historians were. But when you tell the Supreme Court, “Trust us! We’re experts on this subject of the Second Amendment and guns in early America,” it doesn’t say much when it turns out that they were snookered by one of the grossest, most obviously fraudulent history books that I have ever seen–and this is a topic on which they are claiming to be experts! (And a law professor, James Lindgren, and myself, who is nobody, ended up spotting and exposing the fraud.) So here’s what you can do: find any published reviews by any of the fifteen historians above of Arming America and send them to me, pronto. Here’s what I have so far:

I’m just curious about how much non-U.S.-involved international news you get from the mainstream media — it’s all that we’ve been talking about up here, but when I saw the New England news last night, there was no mention at all.

I did see some coverage of that (CNN.com, I believe), but we’re kind of overwhelmed down here with missing marines (pregnant and otherwise), Britany Spears, guys throwing their kids off bridges and women killing their kids and keeping their bodies in the upstairs bedrooms for months at a time. Plus, there’s some political stuff going on, too.

The kids, no. They were too young to have gone to school with me, but too old to be friends with any of my friends’ kids. I knew the teacher, though — she was our music teacher in elementary school, and she was my violin instructor from when I was 7 until I was 12. I babysat her daughter a couple of times. A very nice lady. The whole place is so close-knit that everybody knows everybody, so everybody’s really affected by it.

That poor town has taken a real shitkicking lately — first the mill closes, putting 275 people out of work (in a town of 12,000, that’s huge), and now this.

Where is your compassion and gratitude? The Social workers dedicated their lives to public service and that is how you repay them.
The results do not matter. Just their intent to do good which they showed by becoming Social workers.

    Eric Cantor at Redstate

Last Friday, the United States Solicitor General filed formal briefs asking the Supreme Court not to affirm the lower court’s decision. This is just outrageous. The Solicitor General is the Federal Government’s lawyer. So, now we have the federal government using our tax dollars to argue for a delay on a ruling concerning our fundamental rights.

I’m guessing that it is only outrageous when it concerns the 2nd ammendment, cause some of the others sure seem to be fair game.

Uh, you are describing basically the ethic of the fuckocracy that is the Bush Administration.

Just replace “do good” with “protect America” and “Defense of Marriage” and “911” and “Warrenterra” and you get the idea.

But anyway, I think it demeans social workers to suggest that they should be held to a weak standard of performance. If that is the case, and I’m sure it is in some situations, then that needs to be fixed.

    Paul L.,

    Swiftboat?

Are you actually claiming that “Arming America” wasn’t a work of academic fraud?

If not, what are you saying?

From everything I can see, sadly, the state of popular research on gun control is absolutely a shambles.

The two most popular books published in the last decade, Michael A. Bellesiles’ “Arming America” and John Lott’s “More Guns Less Crime” have been both conclusively shown to be works of propaganda based on misrepresentation and, sometimes, outright fraud.

The fact is that the ranks of both supporters and opponents of gun-control are filled with (1) outright frauds who will say anything to advance their politics and/or (2) dumbass fools who will believe anyone who tells them what they want to hear.

There is precious little reason or rationality in the debate at the moment.

    Swiftboat?

Are you actually claiming that “Arming America” wasn’t a work of academic fraud?

No, I use the term Swiftboat to mock the left.

    True definition of Swiftboating

“Swiftboating” seems to mean the disclosure of truths that are, er, inconvenient for Democrats. Likewise “smears.” And, actually, in lefty blogland parlance these days, “lies” pretty much come out the same way. All definitions are permitted the definer, so long as they are clear, but don’t expect me to be impressed with this batch.

It is interesting that academia was able to disprove “More Guns Less Crime” by peer-review. But they embraced and awarded “Arming America” and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to admit it is a fraud.
And Jake, it looks like O-Dub (a favorite of the left) was playing with my jackaslug.
