Oliver Stone is making a new movie:
According to Daily Variety, Stone is in the process of developing a script about the current president that he hopes will hit theatres in time for the general election next fall.
And he’s tapped Josh Brolin — most recently of “No Country for Old Men” to play the commander in chief.
taodon
Josh Brolin? Why not someone who can actually perform, like one of the schmucks from SNL?
Jake
Fixed.
Garrigus Carraig
I’d have picked Fred Thompson.
Dug Jay
Given that Stone hasn’t had a commercial success since “Natural Born Killers,” some fifteen years ago, perhaps he should call on the services of the individual that helped produce that earlier movie, Jane Hamsher.
myiq2xu
With the guy who played the Emperor in Star Wars as Big Dick.
YellowJournalism
Is this going to be a comedy?
Neal
Why not just ask W? He said he wanted to reline the old coffers, right?
I actually did see a picture of Brolin that looked sort of like him. I guess it works.
Zifnab
OMG YES! Will Farrell makes an awesome President Bush.
myiq2xu
My ass looks like him too, but I didn’t get the job.
Punchy
WTF?
Spoof, joke, or for real?
The Grand Panjandrum
What are we going to find out? Was the former Cheerleader on the Grassy Knoll?
craigie
Excellent. I can hear the rending of garments and gnashing of teeth from here!
Ted
Agreed that Will Ferrell would make a good Bush in Stone’s movie. He’s fairly tall, like Bush, and has the squinty-eye thing down very well.
caustics
For real. But Stone hates her now.
The Grand Panjandrum
True. She wrote a book about it.
ThymeZone
Oliver Stone is not a real topic.
But this is a real interesting website.
uh_clem
Don Knotts wasn’t available?
Scotty
Is this going to be a comedy or a tragedy?
Chris Johnson
Stone is talking like he has cum on his lip.
I do hope it isn’t some kind of slush-funded hagiography. I see NO resemblance between Dubya, and any ‘old-time movie star swagger’. Maybe he’s thinking Westerns? Nice acting there, seeing as Bush is actually Ivy League like his dad…
cmoreNC
Stone likely wants to construct a Shakespearean-quality tragedy involving a fool who managed to get in a position of power. Oliver Stone is the kind of director who wants his films to be taken seriously (sometimes he succeeds, often he does not). If he chose Will Ferrel to play Bush, everyone would presume the film was meant to be a comic farce, and it would have a ready-made audience ready to be entertained by the effort. But I think Stone has ambitions to make a serious film here which indeed may unavoidably have many tragicomic elements, but he doubtless wants this fool to be taken seriously. Which we indeed should, for all the tremendous feckless damage Bush has done to this country.
Incertus (Brian)
Yet another movie I can’t wait to not see. Of course, I’m still holding out hope for the film version of “BJ and the Bear,” so who am I to judge?
Caidence (fmr. Chris)
They already made this move. It was “Blow”.
The Other Steve
Bush really isn’t worth making a movie about.
myiq2xu
Think “Rock Hudson.”
All suck, no vacumn.
Conservatively Liberal
Too bad Jim Varney is not alive, he would be a natural to play Bu$h. Will Ferrell would be good, with Dana Carvey as Daddy Bu$h.
I wonder if Stone will include a scene where Laura kills her old boyfriend in a car wreck. That would be sweet.
Caidence (fmr. Chris)
Larry the Cable Guy is available.
bryanD
Not Oliver Stoooone!
This guy picks perfectly good subjects and then harshes them really badly. The result looks like either a TV movie or a [email protected] or both.
And yes, Will Farrell would be good in this cross-over role. Probably the best thing, since it would still be a Oliver Stone movie.
I nominate one of the Mexicans or Sophia Coppola. Or Spike Lee. Tim Burton. Anybody but Stone. (Woody Allen is always on-budget!)

Perhaps it could turn into something like Rocky Horror was in the ’80’s — midnight showings at independent movie houses (if your city/town still has one) with patrons in costume, throwing money at the screen, saying the lines with the characters and shouting adlibs, all in a white powder cloud.
OxyCon
Here is the person who should play Bush in Oliver Stone’s movie.
KCinDC
OxyCon, seems more like a recommendation for the prosthetic makeup artist than the guy under the makeup.

meh, IMHO I thought NBK was a piece of shit too – Oliver Stone Gone WIld. Hats off to Hamsher, I guess, for fooling enough people into seeing it to make it a commercial success.
AnnPW
This movie will not be in any way worth seeing unless they get a real, live chimpanzee to play George W. Bush. THEN I would pay money to go see it. Oliver Stone needs to get a life. I smell a man who is desperate for attention, and hasn’t done his homework.
Tim F.
The first movie about Vietnam was a gung-ho crapfest starring John Wayne, which makes me think that we should let important things steep for a bit before we start making movies about them.
Then you have the problem that most of the story remains hidden behind a wall of classification and intimidated underlings, so Stone will be free to fill in the gaps with whatever pops into his conspiracy-happy head. since the truth will come out fairly soon anyway, it seems like a fairly silly way to sink Stone’s credibility and discredit the scads of legitimate scandals.
Jake
OT: Clinton & Obama have removed the gloves.
incontrolados
Is the Democratic Party not ready for a first?
Obama and Clinton prove it almost daily.
I hate this shit. More crap for the wingnuts to regurgitate day after day.
How craptacular — dems tearing each other apart over race/gender.
Poika
What about good ol’ Timothy Bottoms? He resurrected his career playing Bush.
stickler
Oh, please.
Just because the movie climaxes with a scene of John Wayne and the Vietnamese kid, watching the sun set in the EAST!!! over the Gulf of Tonkin, doesn’t make the movie a crapfest.
That’s just the crap maraschino on the crap sundae.
Zuzu
Been there.
Done that.
John Rohan
One of the very, very rare times that I agree with most of the commenters here. I also wouldn’t be too optimistic about this movie. Stone doesn’t even have his script complete yet and he’s hoping that have it financed, filmed, edited, marketed, and released before Nov 4? It can be done, but films done at speed usually sacrifice quite a bit of quality. Good luck with that.
Dennis - SGMM
Republicans are already developing collective amnesia about Bush. Democrats despise him. This movie will be just about as popular as a documentary about anal cysts.
4tehlulz
Yeah, that Limbaugh biopic sucked.
Blix
Josh Brolin, as in the son of James Brolin, who played Reagan in the bio-pic that was shouted down by the not-at-all fascist right-wing noise machine? Oh, Oliver, you mischievous scamp.
