Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

It’s the corruption, stupid.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Bark louder, little dog.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Everybody saw this coming.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Actually, since the Giants are coming home on Tuesday and their parade is on Tuesday, I could make the argument that the opposite is true, since Hillary supporters who are Giants fans are likely to assume their vote is far less important than seeing their victorious Giants.

I dunno about Obama here Tuesday. We’ll see.

Good ol’ Bill was here week before last and drew 10K to see him. We have 50K in town, so that means 1 in 5 went to see him speak. Of course, they turned away 3500, but still.

I still can’t believe that out of the three NFC East teams to make it to the playoffs, it had to be the mo’fuggin Giants that took the whole thing. Dammit, my team had the ghost of Sean Taylor [too soon?] behind them for five straight games, He even gave the Skins the ball back from their own kickoff against the Seahawks…and they still found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

I’m distraught. Not over the final score. The Giants wanted it more and outplayed NE most of the game. They’re worthy Champions.

The problem is that it was close all the way to the end, so I had to watch the whole damn thing. The whole damn thing consists of 10 parts Football and 90 parts advertising pap. I tried to cope by watching these vaunted SB Commercials, but nope, kept saying ‘Trying way too hard their Bub’ and tuning out by listening to the melody that the ping!, ping!, pings were making as my brain cells died off at twice their normal rate.

After 4 hours of this the mind tends to wander and mine went back to my College Days. In particular I kept being reminded of that strange, pathetic type of “Student” that loved High School so much that they wanted to relive the Experience, even if it meant paying College Rates.

I speak, of course, of the Marketing “Major”. You know the type, spent the Entire Semester, every Semester, drinking cheap beer and scoring cheaper Women. They’d buckle down with one all-nighter at the end, which was all it took to pull down a 3.something. Meanwhile the rest of us, the Serious Student, had to interupt our own debaucheries two or three times per semester. And the interuptions weren’t chintzy all nighters, sometimes we had to go as much as a week at at time.

The Super Bowl is the Showcase Event for these folks. Competition is fierce and only the Creme de la Creme land the Accounts. We are watching what the finest minds in the World of Marketing can come up with when they’re given boatloads of money. What _did_ they learn, back in those halycon days? Were they really as stupid and vapid as they appeared?

    Yup.

So, congratulations NY Giants. You are the Champions even if some of your fans make Marketing Majors look good. I have to move on and figure out how I can vote for Obama while simulataneously embarrassing “Governor” Mitt Romney with a McCain vote.

This is what happens when you pay too much attention to what the Greatest Minds in Marketing have to say for an extended period. Next thing you know he’s going to start calling the COY a poor loser by selectively editing the part of the end game where Bill ran out to congratulate Tom Coughlin.

Like the caucus thing and Hillary. One county’s Hillary team goes stupid, Obama cries a procedural foul. The Obama supporters start saying this is evidence of Hill’s corruption, Hill supporters say this is a complete scam.

How about: The HRC Campaign manager for Clark County is an asshole? I hear these “assholes” exist in this country.

Why can’t things be as simple as they’re reported?

Bellichek started walking across the field when the clock was near zero. Probably to shake hands, like every other super bowl. No?

Four hours for what was basically a 3-2 game? A two minute tv timeout immediately before another two minute timeout for a replay review?

Give me soccer any day. Wednesday night on ESPN2, USA vs Mexico, live from Houston. Two hours, that’s it. Grab a beer, sit down for 45 minutes (plus a little stoppage time). Go to bathroom and grab another beer before sitting down for 45 more minutes (and stoppage). Game over.

You’ll notice that true Giants fans are enjoying the Win. What you’re seeing here are loser Steeler Fans and loser Jets fans, who really can’t enjoy that. All they have left are dishonest cheap shots at the Coach who regularly chews them up.

Again for the Record, Bill Belichick raced out to mid field. He was met by Tom Coughlin. Big Hug. Hearty Congratulations. Technically yes, there was one second left on the clock, so they had to play it out. I’ve actually seen some of the more deranged complaining that NE *wanted* those last seconds put back. Their derangement knows no bounds, apparently.

Belichick has his short comings. If an Indy fan wants to take a shot for BB’s shabby treatment of Dungy, I’m down with that, it was indefensible. But last night’s end game is up there with that old Ainge-bit-Tree-Rollins myth. Maybe it will die on that far off day when the NY Jets actually do something in the Playoffs, but lordy lordy, we’ll probably all be dead by the time that happens.

Again, for the record, Bill was nowhere to be seen while the rest of his team stayed on the sideline for the final snap.

And…I don’t give a damn about the Steelers or the Jets, so what does that make me? Just an average Joe who saw the same thing a million others saw…a class act (the Team) left on the sidelines for the final TWO seconds of the game.

Your right on the money for calling Belichek out on his treatment of Dungy. I look at last night as an extension of that same attitude.

Belichek. Great coach…no doubt. Great man…question to be resolved.

I don’t see it that way. Coughlin is a friend of Belichick. And Bill has been Mister Personality all through the 2 weeks of SB hype, and through the Playoffs too. Maybe it’s a temporary thing. Since he lost we’ll certainly find out soon enough next Fall. But there was no display of unsportsmanship going on at the end of that game. Ream him out all you want, but use the legitimate ammo at your disposal, there’s certainly enough of that without inventing more.

I’m running out of steam, I think I’ll go back and read that Idiot San Diego fan who was ranting about the red flag. That one was so absurd it’s actually funny. And then I’ll cease and desist. Congratulations again NY Giants, Champions of the NFL.

Why do New Englanders think that there’s a NY-Boston rivalry? Sox/Yanks, maybe. But who the fuck cares? As a Mets fan, it’s all about Billy Buckner and the 18 – 1 ’07 Patsies. Suck it, bitches!

Rivalry? I hardly give Boston a second thought. It’s all about the teams in our division. I just cannot wait to see what kind of football town Boston turns out to be when the Pats return t0 the pack. Bunch of whiny-ass bandwagon-riding

The clock was near zero – but it was stopped at :01 after Brady’s last hopeless heave downfield. Surely the football genius Belichick knew that a kneel-down was necessary to end the game.

This is the best thing to ever happen in the history of Earth.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Though it may very well be surpassed by Johan Santana and the Mets beating up on the Red Sox in October.

As a Packer fan I saw luck on both sides, but the Giants looked somehow better and tougher than the Pats. Brady does not like getting his hair mussed.

The Giant D line was the measure of victory.
