Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The willow is too close to the house.

Republicans in disarray!

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

In after Baud. Damn.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

When we show up, we win.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Is Howard Dean wearing on Hardball right now?

Was he waterboarded in that suit and then thrown in an industrial strength dryer?

Christ, Mark Penn looks good by comparison.

Dean could be wearing a burlap sack, and as long as he doesn’t go into a frothing rabid rage at the sound of HRC’s name, he will still look better than Chris Matthews.

Dean’s notoriously cheap — old suits, and I believe he does wash them himself.

Still, a massive improvement over McAulliffe.

    More fiscal conservatism:

PAULSON: What we’ve got in terms of 2009, you have $70 billion which is a placeholder. And that will be needed to be updated when Gen. Petraeus comes back and reports and so on. In terms of what we’re going to spend this year, Congress, I believe, is yet to appropriate $108 billion which is going to be needed right now.

SEN. BINGAMAN: So we need the $108 billion plus we need the $70 billion plus we need whatever Gen. Petraeus says in his report in March? And the amount that Gen. Petraeus asked for is not included in the budget?

PAULSON: It’s an unknowable amount. … That’s a placeholder and it will change based on what the requirement is.

I have a feeling Bush, in his last budget request, will go stupid crazy and ask for something like $721 billion dollars for the wars, scream “Dems hate troops!” when they balk, then have the Dems fold, then laugh when the next Dem Pres tries to tax their way out of a $1.2 trillion dollah hole.

I had to rewind the DVR (God, I love technology).

Dean looks like, as one of my drill sergeants used to say,
    Joe Shit The Ragman.

It’s my wardrobe. Someone’s always giving me shit for my faded t-shirts. That’s why I don’t go on Hardball.

The Romney and McCain lackeys are trying to kill each other on Hardball. Wow the Romney camp is in meltdown.

Why can’t Dems just freakin’ find a bunch of pretty people, dress them up real nice, and train them to talk the talk? How hard is it to find charismatic spokespeople?

I love me my Howard, but it looks like he is wearing a Pajamas Top instead of a shirt.

He did bat down Tweety pretty well when he tried to get him to take a position on seating the Florida and Michigan delegates.

Say all you want about the jabs between the Clinton and Obama camps. Those Republicans want to eat each others hearts. Bay Buchanan was like some nasty shit. I hope all three stay in the race. Fun stuff.

Goes well with the “Known knowns.”

Well, update from the Cali on-campus polls:

Lots of students showing up to vote on campus when they don’t live on campus, the nice lady showing them a map of town and where they are supposed to go vote. Tons of people, like me, who are “decline to state” voters going Democratic. I heard the nice lady when she called the elections folks (whoever they may be) that there were 12 people in line and they had about 20 Democratic ballots left, and they still had an hour and half to go before the polls closed. Turns out I could have voted for Mittens if I was willing to register Republican on the spot, but, well, ew.

Ga. People in Montana are 36% for Romney. Geez. Makes me want to shake ’em. Of course, their teeth (dentures) would fly right out of their heads. Lots of retirees up there (young people tend to leave to find JOBS). Ugh. Bah. Urg.
