Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Consistently wrong since 2002

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

75% of people clapping liked the show!

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Anyone catch the sheriif’s deputy dumping the quadriplegic man out of his wheelchair in Tampa? Because she didn’t believe him, so she walks behind him. lifts his chair and dumps him on the floor.

When will these people learn that ANYTHING they do these days will show up on TV or Youtube. Imagine the horseshit that cops used to pull before there was actual proff of their fuctardedry…

note: yes, there are good police, etc. But the neo-militia crap disgusts me.

The best way to do these things is to file a formal complaint carefully detailing the incident based on the video, but don’t mention the video. When the officer swears up and down that nothing like that happened, as guys like the officer in the video almost invariably do, produce the video showing him a liar. Thus, he’s in trouble for (i) harassing a citizen; and (ii) filing false reports/lying to the internal affairs guys.

Both of my parents are former state troopers; my sister has been in both the federal and state court system and has applied to become a police officer. I won’t say that I give the benefit of the doubt to the cops, but I’m willing to agree that there are two sides to every story.

Having said that… after watching that video, all I can say is, what a fucking pig.

I practically had tears in my eyes watching it; that cop was on a complete and total power trip and deserves to lose his badge, if not have charges pressed against him for assaulting that kid and taking his skateboard away. (Like that will happen.)

Nothing that cop said or did would have encouraged any respect for authority from anyone, and made every other cop’s job that much harder as a result.

    What a complete shitbag.

apparently they did try to file a report. http://openearseyes.blogspot.com/

n an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, 14-year-old Eric Bush told Richard Sher, “He was just like up in my face yelling at me. Then he tackled me.”

He continued, “It was scary, because I have diabetes and my blood sugar went crazy ’cause he scared me.”

“I called to file a complaint but was told the supervisor was on vacation and would call me when he returned. He never did,” Eric’s mother, Peggy Miller, said.

I know that the majority of cops might be good guys, nice to kittens and babies, familymen etc, but guys like the one in this video make their jobs a million times harder because they actively erode public trust/respect for law enforcement.

Given my experience with police, I can honestly say I need a cop in my life about as much as a fish needs a bicyle.

To me, the ostensible “public safety” they provide isn’t worth the risk of getting some trigger happy goon who’s afraid of his own shadow, some suburban macho man out to show the darkies who’s boss, or some generic douchebag on a power trip.

I say this as an honest law abiding citizen who just so happens to have enough melanin in his skin to warrant a lifetime’s worth of unwanted police harrasment.

Black people have been warning society for decades now that cops are out of control – the small percentage of bad ones are running amok and the “good” ones are to cowed to speak out against it.

Johnny Skateboard just got a watered down version of what African-American and Latino teens have been dealing with for a very long time now, and it took a video recording of the officer’s actions to bring even a semblance of public scrutiny to the (now) problem.

Not a minute to soon I say.

Sorry all you good, decent, and polite cops out there, but since you don’t drum fucks like this out of your forces, you can share their reputation. I’m basing it on my own personal experience. Look, I’m a black dude.

I stopped counting the number of times I’ve been randomly stopped for a once over by cops. Most times they were OK, but the times they weren’t OK were truly hair raising….and then there are the expereinces of my relatives, friends, and contemporaries who put things into focus.

Police have too much power to abuse their authority and do not face sufficient consequences when they do.

That doesn’t preclude cops from being good husbands, fathers and Kiwanis members, it only makes it more difficult to understand why they think it’s alright to mistreat people.

I find that it varies tremendously by jurisdiction. In my experience, Minneapolis cops are terrible. I’ve seen a lot of behavior not too different from that. St. Paul cops are pretty good. Minnesota State Troopers are among the most professional people I’ve ever dealt with, and I’m not limiting that to cops.

Investigators say Deputy Charlotte Marshall Jones is suspended without pay after the January 29 incident, which involved 32-year-old Brian Sterner, who is a quadriplegic. Video shows Deputy Jones dumping Sterner out of his wheelchair and onto the floor while she is booking him into the Hillsborough County Jail. Baltimore City is surrounded by, but independent of, Baltimore County.

It used to be much smaller than the city, but has become much larger than the city over the last fifty years for the usual reasons suburbs become larger than their cities.

There is no government in the county below the county, so towns like the famous Dundalk or Towson are really just Census Designated Places.

HAHA The joke is on you. Cops are getting their legislator friends and DAs to actually prosecute people that videotape cops using illegal wiretapping laws. Legislators are actually writing laws around this country making it illegal for you to videotape or photograph police.

Go spend some time at The Agitator. You’ll see there is a much larger problem out there, and much worse is being done than what happened to this kid.

Ryan Frederick is a great example. He had a hobby. He liked to garden, and one of his favorite plants was a Japanese Maple. One week someone breaks into his house, and they don’t steal anything. A week later, a SWAT team working on an informants (possibly the criminal that broke in or was sent in) tip decides to raid his house in the middle of the night with a no knock raid because they suspect he is running a huge Marijuana grow operation. Apparently they didn’t do any surveillance, and there aren’t any botanists on the police force.

Mr. Frederick already on edge because his house had been burglarized just within the past week and the guy’s didn’t take anything defends his house by shooting at the intruders breaking into his house in the middle of the night. Unfortunately he was unlucky because he made a million to one shot and he hit one of the officers in the armpit where body armor is non-existant and killed him.

Cops search the house. Lo and behold Mr. Frederick was a casual pot smoker and had two joints in his house. Those grow lights and pot plants of a major grow operation? Non-existant. Just lots of Japanese maples. Google Image it.

Mr. Frederick? Now being charged with First Degree Manslaughter of a cop.

Or there is Corey Maye, or the Vietnamese guy in Chicago, or Kathryn Johnston in Georgia (lucky the Informant actually flipped on the corruption there), or the case of the mother and baby shot by a swat team, or the propensity for dogs to be shot even when it’s the wrong address, or… well the list goes on and on. When towns that only have a population of 5000 are spending money on SWAT teams you know there is something seriously wrong with Law Enforcement in this country.

Mr. Frederick could have just as easily been arrested on his way out the door. Or they could have waited until a day when he went to the grocery store or bank. There wasn’t any need for a high stress, high intensity, middle of the night raid on a non-violent suspect. A little time and effort also might have helped them to realize that he had Japanese Maples and not pot plants, but I guess it’s more fun to go in busting down doors, guns blazing, etc.

The kid is lucky; in Utah he would have already been tazed and the cop would have been given a pat on the back and told he’s doing a good job. Go to YouTube and put in “Utah taser” to see a video from a couple of months ago of a Utah Highway Patrol trooper tazing a guy for turning his back on him, and then threatening to do the same to the guy’s pregnant wife. After a “thorough review,” the cop was totally cleared. Even then the guy is lucky, usually Utah cops just shoot you before they get cleared by the review board. One of Utah’s right-wing state senators (I know, redundant) just introduced a bill in the Utah lege to hide all records of police malfeasance from the public. That’s life Behind the Zion Curtain!
