Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

This fight is for everything.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

When we show up, we win.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

So many bastards, so little time.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Seriously, with friends like these, you can get away with a lot of stuff:

Chris Matthews: But first the McCain story. We‘re joined by NBC‘s David Gregory and Andrea Mitchell. Anyone who covers politics is saddened by this story.

***

MIKE BARNICLE, NBC ANALYST: Well, God—God, I hate this story, Chris. I hate it for what it does….

MATTHEWS: I hate it, too.

BARNICLE: I hate for the process—what it does to the process of politics. I hate it for what it does to the process of journalism.

There were at least two other occasions last night in which Matthews professed that the story about McCain was “depressing,” but I can’t find them. They were as he was cutting to commercial break, so maybe it was chopped. Or maybe I am misremembering.

At any rate, people have talked at length about how Hillary has to play under the “Clinton rules,” and that Obama has not. We will see what impact the McCain rules also have this election cycle.

Barnicle should go back to his day job, which I think involves sticking to the hulls of ships and eating plankton. At least then he’d be semi-useful.

It’s a shame people like McCain get hurt in the political process. There’s no need to throw dirt at him, politics is just a game. It’s not like there’s people dying in a war somewhere.

MATTHEWS: Hey, Mike. I’ve got a bowl of McCain’s used condoms. Wanna just sniff them and, you know, kinda roll around on them? It’ll be just like old times.

BARNICLE: Yeah, Chris. That would be really nice. I think I’d really appreciate that.

Hey, I called McCain last night and he hasn’t called me back yet. I talked to his secretary and he said he was busy. How long do you think I should wait?

MATTHEWS: Me, I usually wait a couple days. Then I call him back and use my sexy voice. If that doesn’t work, I go out latter that night and throw rocks at his window.

    These smell really nice.

BARNICLE: Yeah. They’re great. Really great. Are they ribbed for pleasure?

MATTHEWS: That’s how you know he cares.

Poor Mathews, his mancrush is being picked on! Oh the humanity!

Who would think that a news network could be worse than Fox news. At least you know when you tune in to Fox you’re going to get GOP talking points and approved big-money narrative.

MSNBC collects 2nd tier wingnuts that Fox won’t hire, sloppy lazy doormats like Russert, or imbeciles like Matthews. Now if they could add Glenn Beck to the stable and fire their only competent host (Olberman) teh crazy would be complete.

I don’t think Matthews can handle the loss of another mancrush this year. First there was Aqua Velva Fred, and the Rudy, and if McCain goes I think he might be suicidal.

    John, seriously, follow Cleeks link.

Once again the right-wings self-appointed military theorists go apecrap over something Obama says about a soldier, they deny it, Jake Tapper checks it out…

And voila! the right-wingers soil themselves and wallow in it once again.

One of the links from MY and Tapper is to the Freepers. Man it is worth reading the entire comment section just to entertain yourself a little. I don’t think we’re in any danger of being overwhelmed by intellectual giants. We may get crushed by a tsunami of utter fucking stupidity but at least we would go out laughing. I love those motherfuckers! Where else can you be guaranteed a belly laugh in 30 seconds or less?

I love the last paragraph of Jake Tapper’s blog.

I might suggest those on the blogosphere upset about this story would be better suited directing their ire at those responsible for this problem, which is certainly not new. That is, if they actually care about the men and women bravely serving our country at home and abroad.

Obama rules…. when a journalist writes a story that is unfavorable to Obama, he’s the scum of the earth (see Obot reaction to Tapper’s plagarism story.) When a journalist writes a story favorable to Obama, he’s the personification of credibility. (see Obot reaction to Tapper’s story confirming Obama’s anecdote above.)

(its actually unfair to call it Obama rules, because most people, not just Obots, do the exact same thing. )

    croatoan…

The McCain campaign said that no representative of Paxson personally asked for a letter. They didn’t say that Paxson himself didn’t ask.

Under McCain rules, there is no contradiction here.

I am going to explain this slowly and use small words and all caps so it sinks through the Clinton haze that has made you take leave of your senses.

OBAMA STEALING LINES STORY WAS BULLSHIT AND TAPPER WAS A HACK.

OBAMA STORY ABOUT ARMY WAS TRUE AND TAPPER ACTED LIKE A REPORTER.

That is why I reacted to each story that way, not because I am in the tank for Obama. How many times do I have to say I would vote for Hillary if Obama loses?

please provide a link rebutting the appropriation of the quote from a 2006 Patrick speech used without attribution by Obama in November 2007.

shorter p.lukasiak: Not only does Obama enjoy fawning, uncritical press coverage, but the general population is just as fawning and uncritical of him too! This means Hillary is much more electable in November, because everyone knows that candidates who are uncritically accepted by most people always lose. Known Truth!
