And while I think Hillary should continue on, for now, I would really appreciate it if someone would ask Hillary point blank, right now, what states count:
After weeks of finding reasons to discount every Obama victory, the Clinton campaign seems to be laying the groundwork to argue that Texas — the state that they have been pointing to as more meaningful and representative than other states — doesn’t count, either. Why would they be discounting Texas? Oh, I don’t know, this might have something to do with it.
Sheesh.
Consider this an open thread.

Holy fucking wow

Soon, Mark Penn is going to argue that not being able to win any states is not indicative of real success in November. And then, not being able to win the popular vote or electoral college in November is not indicative in any way of electoral success.
Caidence (fmr. Chris)
I soooooo hope that just _one_ of these states hits back against talk like this. Just one. Just so the message gets out there.
Keith
If she’s not prepared for the unfairness that is the caucus system, how can she be prepared for the unfairness that is the electoral college?

Lulz at the ABC comments from Clintards that will vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination. Retards.

What a disgrace to the SC.
Caidence (fmr. Chris)
meh. Nothing new. That State Rep. is just worried that these people can’t see out the back window of their pick-ups because of the flag they cover it with. And that’s _after_ the gun rack is installed.
He’s doing the responsible thing by letting these people move the requisite flag to the license plate. Because you know they ain’t takin’ it down witout a fite.

Among the many colossal disgraces associated with Clarence Thomas, it’s easy to lose sight that the very biggest of all was the first:
– the fact that Thomas was civil-rights giant Thurgood Marshall’s replacement on the Supreme Court.
– A corollary to that disgrace is that George Bush (dad) thought Thomas an appropriate replacement for Marshall, when there were an ample number of fairly conservative black lawyers who would have instead been far more worthy (and different in philosophy than Marshall).
cleek
awesome. i guess that means we won’t be hearing anything about the Che flag in that Obama field office from this guy.
calipygian
When are people going to learn that a) the South got its ass kicked, and b) treason ain’t cool?
Ninerdave
No, you’re mistaken there cleek.
See flying a flag that represents lynching, racism and slavery is just a way of showing pride in your heritage.
Che is a scary brown guy.
Totally different.

So, you’re going to vote for McCain over Obama if Hillary loses the nomination?

I’m nominally a Southerner, but this shit is pathetic and I have no sympathy for it. “Yay, we were on the losing side! We’re number 2!”
This “heritage” isn’t worth celebrating. It should be mocked, or better yet, forgotten completely.
The South lost. Get the fuck over it already.
myiq2xu
I was confused about why a SoCal raised part-Jewish guy like Macaca Allen would be flying the Stars & Bars.
Shouldn’t he have put the “Bear Flag” or the Star of David in the back window of his pick-up instead?

I just wanted to thank you for not reprinting Drudge’s garbage and taking his word for it like a few other “liberal” blogs did.

Ah, the >50 + 0 strategy in action. Don’t worry, p.luk should be along shortly to explain why this makes perfect sense.
Caidence (fmr. Chris)
Please note that deep south schools tend to teach very Confederate-centric views, and many kids that can’t type “
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War
” come out thinking that the South won, but the North managed to get control through some arcane combination of politics and economy. You know, them wimpy stuff those Yanks practice instead of shootin’ and spittin’ chew.dslak
Caidance is describing the “We would have won, too, if not for all those damned Northerners and their factories!” I think that’s where Hannah-Barbara got the inspiration for the final dialogue of Scooby-Doo villains.
dslak
That should read “Caidance is describing the “. . .” phenomenon. I obviously need to drink more.

Hey now… I went to some of those deep south schools. We were taught that the evil yankees beat us by burning everything in their path to Atlanta. Then they sent the carpetbaggers to destroy what was left. After much effort, though, we got them back by stealing auto plants from Detroit, inventing NASCAR, and turning W from a blue-blood yankee into a good-ole-boy.
Z
The problem with the W thing, though, was that it backfired. He was just supposed to destroy the North, not the entire country.
calipygian
You consider that a victory? You probably think doing that to George Allen was a victory, too.

I wish I could have seen their faces when the “good ole boys” found out he was part-Jewish.
That had to be priceless!

As I said, the W plan backfired!

This story is complete crap.
The whole breathless thing rides on Bill Clinton encouraging supporters to attend the caucus after the primary:
“It would be tragic if Hillary were to win this election in the daytime and somebody were to come in at night and take it away.”
The New Republic piece is a pile of garbage. “Seems to be laying the groundwork.” Gawd. Might as well throw in a racism accusation, associating Obama with a thief in the night.
p.lukasiak
what states count?
well there are two ways of looking at it. Non-safe states (see Rasmussen) where Texas is “not important”, or battleground states.
And the difference is that battleground states include “safe” states that one side knows it will lose if the other side devotes resources there, but campaigns there anyway to prevent resources from being spent in “non-safe” states.
So while California is considered “safe” for Democrats, and Texas “safe” for Republicans, they are both “battleground” states, because both parties should devote resources to them. So in that sense Texas does “matter”.
IMHO, Texas “matters” only if one candidate does much better than the other — if its not remotely close, it would mean that the losing candidate would have a harder time making Texas a “credible” battleground.

Two things:
1) I live in Dallas and I have not heard a single Clinton add on the radio. But I have heard at least a dozen if not two dozen Obama adds. I don’t watch TV much but did watch the Oscars last night. And I saw an Obama TV spot but no Clinton spot. Maybe Clinton is finding a different way to get her message across, but Obama’s team is doing a good job of putting himself in front of my eyes (ears).
2) Generally southern friends stop pushing the Confederate Flag as a symbol of Southern Heritage when I tell them that, until they recapture that flag from all the bigoted redneck racists, no one is going to take them seriously. I frame it such that it isn’t the symbol (the Confederate flag) I have a problem with, it is the people-of-hate who claim that symbol as their own that is the problem. But those people-of-hate won’t be separated from their symbol, so I’m justified in being against the symbol (hate) without being against the symbol (Southern Heritage).
demimondian
That’s what a reasonable person would conclude from what I wrote, isn’t it?
p.a.
I have a friend, hard worker but high-school dropout, who moved to Florida when his mother-in-law ‘made him an offer he couldn’t refuse’- if he wanted to stay married that is. For quite a while he had trouble finding a job that paid over $8/hour. Finally got a job delivering auto parts. Within 3 months he was running the warehouse. This is almost a direct quote of what he told me- it just stuck in my head,”Paul, I’m not the brightest bulb, but these people are unbelievable. All they care about is bass fishing, NASCAR and getting shitfaced on beer. I just had to show up on time and sober and the managers thought I was God.”
Well, glad that southern strategy worked out for the GOP. Gomers on Parade.

Thing is, though: there are millions of them (and not just in Florida) – and they all get one vote apiece: just like he rest of us…..

Anyone see this comedian on Fox News last weekend? ;)
This is a riot, and the guy wrote a diary at the GOS about it.
Fox News hires a comedian to tell jokes, and he points out that Fox News is a joke! Priceless! He said that Fox News is a ‘parade of propoganda’, and that ‘its just a festival of ignorance’ and nothing but fluff, so they cut him off with a segue to a bit about Bone’s new book about Captain Kirk’s ‘intergalactic affairs’. It is priceless, he calls them fluff and they cut to fluff. As they say, timing is everything. ;)
The book must be by a ‘ghost writer’ as Kelly passed away long ago. If Fox is promoting it, then you know it is crap (or fluff!).
This guy deserves an award of some sort.

But, for centuries, man has yearned to destroy the sun. I was just going to do the next best thing – block it out.

demi, I’d be happy to let you get what you deserve for supporting McCain over Obama, but unfortunately you’d drag the rest of us down with you. Any man willing to sing “Bomb Iran” to make a political point should not be sitting in the big chair in the Oval Office. And what exactly has Obama done during his career that makes you so convinced that he will have four years of disasters and failed policies?
Or are you just a philosopher of the “If you won’t let me win, I’m taking my ball and going home” school?
John S.
Are you talking to yourself?
You’re the one favoring someone with a proven track record of disasters and failed policies. You only think Obama will do the same, whereas with McCain it’s a given.
Smart choice.

Gotcha. Got the lot of you self-righteous cult members.

Demi —
You haven’t heard me pipe up about ANY candidate here in strong terms, but your attitude is frankly ridiculous.
McCain is a proven failure — he’s going to be a more competent Bush. Either Hillary or Obama is a better choice. The 3 most important issues we’re going to face over the next 4 years are withdrawl from Iraq, the economy (including housing bubble), and healthcare breaking the backs of industry and the middle-class alike.
On which of these issues do you prefer McCain to either Democratic candidate? He’s already taken the position that withdrawl Ain’t Gonna Happen, he wants to keep the tax cuts in place, and he’s against any sort of expansion of healthcare.
Cutting off your nose to spite your face is, well, retarded.
demimondian
No, John S., I got you.
You’re a self-righteous authoritarian prig, and I’ve played you like a fiddle twice now…and I’m going to continue doing so until you learn some humility. YHBT. YHL. HAND.
