Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

I really should read my own blog.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

The willow is too close to the house.

We still have time to mess this up!

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

And One More Thing

Bill must have seen a lot of traffic yesterday, as the Washington Monthly linked him (and that is how I got there to see the Khaddafi foolishness), because he has this whiny screed up:

What does a link from Daily Kos and attention from the Left get you? A flood of appalling comment-sludge. Not spam. Sludge, dumped by angry left-wingers who can’t seem to make an argument without using a bucket full of foul language and without engaging in personal attack. Comments like that came in by the hundreds yesterday, each one a testament to the refusal of the Left to debate the issue of Barack Obama’s coziness with terrorist supporters and focusing instead on the use of Obama’s middle name. My blog’s comments policy bars such language and personal attack, I deleted them. All of them. Because I simply didn’t feel like wasting my time reading every single comment.

I simply don’t get this- Bill and the GOP somehow find it acceptable to focus on Barack’s middle name, pretend he is a stealth mulism aligned with 60’s radicals and anti-Smites who want to destroy Israel (and, by extension the US!), and that is all well and good to just throw that out into public debate.

But if someone stops by a little-known website and tells the proprietor that he is full of shit for the bile he is dumping into the public discourse, well that, my friends, is just FUCKING OUT OF LINE.

Get a grip. The amount of filth in your comments is directly proportional to the amount of crap you spew into the general public. You don’t like it, quit being a bottom-feeder. People aren’t going to come by your site and call you a jackass because you disagree with Obama on issues. Keep smearing him, and you can expect lots of company. You aren’t a victim here, you are just getting what you asked for.

I’m sure I don’t need to explain it to this crowd, but this has long been the game of the fringe Right-Wing. Be as crass or ridiculous as possible. When you get angry people reacting angrily, use that to show how unhinged your opponent is. If they try to reason with you, you’ve succeeded in derailing any real discussion, as they cater to your lunacy.

It’s been working for Rush for decades.

I, for one, think BILL SODOMIST HOBBS is right. Please stop being mean to BILL CHILDMOLESTER HOBBS or else BILL PUPPYSTRANGLER HOBBS will have to stoop to our level of discourse.

He might have to think up more cute 3rd-grade jokes about what the news networks’ initials stand for.

Tennessee is about to be the hub of the nub that is left of the Republican party. There it is, the center of an isolated deep-south party, stubbornly engorged and red like some angry tampon of dispair.

I was thinking about Bill Buckley last night: here’s a guy (Gore Vidal is another) that even if you disagreed with him, especially if you disagreed with him with rashers of vehemence, he made you want to be smarter, more rational, more articulate. You’d want him blanching from your scathing rebuttal. Somehow, I don’t believe calling him an ASSHOLE would suffice.

So. I guess this means that instead of hearing for the next 8 years about how Hillary killed Vince Foster, we’re gonna spend the next 8 years hearing about how Obama masterminded 9/11.
