Daily Kos has several diaries devoted to voting problems, turnout, etc. — that’s about all I have seen.

As soon as the polls close in any state, we’ll see the media declare the winners. Then they count the votes …Somehow that seems bass-ackwards, you know?

I remember when you had to wait till the next morning, if not longer, for results to be declared. Oh tempo, oh mores, or something like that.

I will never, never, never (I mean it) pay any heed to “early” exit poll data.

When the polls close in any state, CNN promptly puts up the first worthwhile exit poll data, typically from about 900 voters. That is good stuff. Anything earlier is not worth anything.

One more note … as the night wears on, the exit poll data is updated, usually totalling about 1800 voters. And of course, eventually we get the raw vote.

Actually, assuming the media isn’t a conspiracy (no, I don’t believe that!), the media’s estimate should be better than any problematic election, because those are done from exit polls. Therefore the information is on who they wanted to vote for, not on what the machines/boxes recorded.

Of course, if the problem election site doesn’t get corrected and puts out bad results, then there’s still a problem.

If that’s the worst picture Obama suffers this election cycle, he’ll get off really, really light. After all, McCain’s got that pic of him dry-humping King George the Lesser to overcome.

I have a somehwat limited perspective, but Huckabee has less than no traction in the major cities. I think Ron Paul will poll surprisingly well (or not so surprising — we ARE Texas, and it IS a caucus) and mitigate the East Texans for Huckabee vote. All the energy is on the Democratic side though.

I’m caucusing tonight. Pictures if possible, with a post to come tonight. My precinct is in an interesting location, as we draw from the Montrose area of Houston (the alternative lifestyle area to live in) and River Oaks (old money, but somewhat liberal socially). I expect quite a few Hillary supporters, though my neighborhood is almost entirely Obama.

The latest polls indicate that hillary should win three out of four, enough to keep her in the race until Pennsylvania at least. Apparently Obama is dropping like a rock in Ohio after he and his campaign were caught with their pants down on NAFTA; the voters are beginning to see that Obama is pretty much like any other politician….he just happens to be black.

Florida and Michigan are just the beginning. What about all the hundreds of thousands of disenfranchised Edwards voters? Their votes are completely meaningless now! They simply don’t count.

That doesn’t sound very democratic. It sounds downright unfair.

Fortunately, there’s a reasonable solution. Once Obama has been damaged enough, we’ll have a revote in Iowa and South Carolina, with Edwards subtracted from the mix, in order to ensure Clinton has a remote chance of capturing enough delegates fairness and democracy.

    Our voices must be heard.

The latest polls indicate that hillary should win three out of four

I don’t trust the sample on many of those polls. 19% African-American turnout and 35% Latino in an election featuring an African-American? Come on…

Ohio Clinton single digits, Texas Obama double digits, Vermont Obama double digits, Rhode Island toss-up, leaning Obama. Lot of undecideds in RI, and they’ve been breaking for Obama. RI might suffer from the Deval effect as NH and MA did and break Clinton though. Hard to say. NAFTA/Canada took Obama out of the running in Ohio. Too bad, really. News never picked up that Clinton’s people met with the Canadians as well and made the same vague assurances. Obama’s people should have corrected that.

Primaries aren’t democratic. They are internal party matters designed to pick a candidate. And elections are never fair. If you want fair, get rid of the money first and you’ll only have about 7 million unfair factors still to get rid of, including the media.

Is there any reliable data that correlates weather with voting patterns? I’ve seen this attempt made by a number of peeps, I just don’t know if it’s legit. You could theorize almost anything:

Bad weather = college closings = students start drinking earlier = dont vote
Bad weather = roads closed = only bicyclers and Segwayers caucus = lots of votes for Gravel and Bloomberg
Bad weather = lots of rain = only chicks in non-white shirts actually get out of car to vote = wife-beaters are mostly white = the Whiskey-Tango crowd highly unrepresented

NAFTA/Canada took Obama out of the running in Ohio. Too bad, really. News never picked up that Clinton’s people met with the Canadians as well and made the same vague assurances. Obama’s people should have corrected that.

Give Clinton and her people their dues. They seem to understand this facet of campaigning much better than Obama and his people. I believe the saying is something like “it’s hard for your opponent to hit you if your fist is in their face.” Translation: she who attacks first controls the news cycle and the narrative framing.

Obama’s Rope-a-Dope is very effective when his opponents are slinging petty bullshit (“zomg Muslim! zomg he said he wants to be president in kindergarten!”). Not so much when the attack: a) plugs into an issue, b) uses his own words and actions against him, and c) frames the interpretations as all negative choices. There’s not much defending against those kinds of attacks. The only real ‘defense’ is not to give your opponents material to begin with. Since that’s basically impossible, the next best defense is a good offense.

Lesson for team Obama – when things get hotly contested, you’d better get aggressive. To reiterate, it’s hard for your opponent to hit you if your fist is in their face. I hope Obama’s people are digging into McCain’s record for all the crap they can hit him with. It shouldn’t be hard. There’s more than enough material there for them to attack him as too hot headed to be trusted with The Button, among other things.

The headline at Yahoo at this moment is:

Locals weigh in on the “hidden factors” that may influence the Democratic primary. >>Will the GOP Benefit?

I swear a similar headline with the exact same stupid “Will the GOP Benefit” tag was shown during Super Tuesday.

I can only think that this helps the GOP.

For once, an attack on Obama yields significance

I’m going to fill in for myiq: “See! He didn’t manage to answer all of the questions in the unscheduled-gaggle perfectly, refused to re-answer questions he’s already answered in a slow and patient manner, and still failed to please every reporter sexually!”

Being a jerk aside, Obama is still gonna have to make himself available for answers soon or this is going to look bad.

    That really sucks about Gygax.

As for the election, try not to get your undies in a bunch, folks. It will be a couple of days before we know the delegate count in TX, and OH will go to Hillary. She did a better job of pretending to be a populist.

Regardless of the results, this primary contest is not the final battle before Armageddon.

So Limbaugh can’t effect the Republican nomination but he could throw the Democratic one? Weird.

Early unsubstantiated rumors have Clinton doing very well in OH but Obama having a chance of pulling off a RI shocker. Who knows if there’s anything behind them.

OK, here is something I’ll defend the Hillbots on.

    “Did they make him blacker?”

What a crock of shit. If anything, they made him purpler. Maybe they were intending to make him look like a freakish version of Violet Beauregarde, post-incident?

So what are you defending, Caidence? That they tried to make Obama blacker and did a shitty job at it?

I think Chelsea has turned out to be a lovely girl. She looks mature and sophisticated. So I don’t know why you need to drag her looks into it. As someone else said above, she’s doing something positive with her life which is all we can ask for.

No, they just have a shitty video editor. I’m saying she’s not guilty of anything here.

I’m just saying I’m sympathetic. I wouldn’t dream of slighting her for her mother.

In fact, I’m sure she’s got VERY entertaining things to say about her.

I don’t think she’s personally guilty of anything either. But I do think that her video editor and the person in charge of making those ads has some explaining to do.

Aww, can’t we dislike them without becoming like them? They’ve been digging up every inconsequential negative thing they can find just to get leverage, and they look terrible for it.

Can’t we win gracefully without accusing their under-paid, under-appreciated Clintonite video mangler of a conspiracy?

Im watching CNN and they keep talking about how confusing the Texas primary is. In fact it seems Wolf mentions how confusing it is every time Texas comes up. WTF. I know I’ll get a SATSQ here but here goes… Is it just that Wolf is fucking stupid or that Wolf thinks his viewership is as fucking dumb as he is?

The networks all give Ohio to Clinton, and she has also overtaken Obama’s huge initial lead in Texas. Her campaign says she’s staying in and on to Pennsylvania.
