Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

As long as you shut up about your homosexuality, you’ll be ok in Iran!

Hey, didn’t they finally just release a “Queen: Greatest Hits” album in Iran?

How bad could it be to be gay in Iran if you can listen to Queen!!??

Given the Brits’ incredible efforts to rollover for Muslim sentiment in their own damn country, I’m sadly not surprised to see them send some poor guys and girls back to die in a Muslim one. Disgusting.

I’m always skeptical of news that’s filtered through not only Demmons, but Aravosis as well.

The comment by “torrentprime” about the Brits “rolling over” for Muslims (what?) doesn’t really encourage me any to think of this seriously.

But minus the Islamophobic spin, I think there is something worth looking at here. It’s been a story for months now, of course, as is the 19-year-old man in the same situation.

It’s also, of course, worth looking at deportations in general and how America treats our immigrants. Normally we have no problems with “defending our borders” and deporting “illegal aliens” back to their home countries. Do we only care because now it’s a lesbian woman, and it’s a Muslim country? Suddenly the (online, conservative) LGBT community realizes that deportations are awful?

Come on, Kynn. The online LGB community has realized for a long time that this is a terrible thing and not just for asylum seekers. I’ve known a couple of relationships that were forcibly severed by deportation. That is why so many have pushed for gay marriage.

Hey, just think of it from their perspective. If gay Mexicans were streaming across the boarder, taking our jobs and boinking our precious sons, how would Patriotic Americans be expected to act?

You can’t just let Gay Muslims cut to the front of the line and start sexing up Britain’s respectable youth. Besides, Amadinajadinjahedadey sad there were no gays in Iran. Ergo, if we send them back to Iran, they won’t be gay anymore.

Examples, please. Real ones, if you can manage it. Though I’ll think you’ll find that they don’t actually exist.

If? Where have you been? The Spanish Lavender is an even greater threat to our country than our homegrown homos. If we don’t do something, you’ll be able to get drive-through gay marriages at every Taco Bell in the country.

Online conservative queers, like Demmons or Aravosis, don’t pay much attention to border issues or immigrant rights, unless it involves gay people in Muslim countries.

Neither Demmons nor Aravosis posts about deportations being bad when they break up straight families. Especially not Mexicans!

Kynn: Like John a couple days ago, I would like to take this opportunity to say to you, “Go Fuck Yourself.” I am an activist for people who are split up because of border issues – no matter if they’re straight or gay.

Fortunately, it almost never happens to straight people. So, again, go fuck yourself. Find somewhere else to spread your stupidity.

I loved the report’s reasoning, by the way. “Mr. X and Mr. Y, who are gay, are afraid of being deported because they’re concerned that they’ll be murdered if they’re shipped back to Iran, because it’s illegal to be gay there, as Mr. X and Mr. Y have said. We don’t think that this is a problem, because Mr. X and Mr. Y can simply stay in the closed once they’re there. So we order the deportation of these -AIDS carrie- -faggot-, no damn it gay men to Iran. Mr. X and Mr. Y will simply need to keep their names and identities secret, because Mr. X and Mr. Y are gay, and of course, their names, X and Y, are secrets.”

    Uh…yeah.

…what? Straight people almost never have their families broken up because of border issues?

Are you posting drunk again, Demmons?

Elvira Arellano doesn’t exist? Or are you saying that you did write extensively about that because you’re an activist for border issues? Where’s the link?

And, by the way, I pay particular attention to gay relationships because, well, I am GAY. Du-fucking-UH.

Uh huh. So nobody else should care about gay issues? Straight people should just focus on straight issues?

The gay issues around immigration are serious and important. Relationships are broken because of anti-gay policies, and a transgender Latina immigrant died in DHS custody. There’s a lot to be concerned about.

There’s also a lot to be concerned about in the broader picture of how and why immigration policies work as they do, and why deportations happen. Saying that international borders almost never split up straight people is grossly ignorant and shows you for the self-centered dolt you are, rather than an “activist” on “border issues.”

Here’s the original article if the bloggers are giving you les vapours.

Leaving side the bullshit of the “Don’t be gay Sparky,” approach, they’ve given the bug-eyed bigots of the UK a nice big stick to kill any asylum application. After all, if you’re a political dissident you just have to be “discreet” in your disagreement with your fucked up repressive regime and you’ll be fine! Wrong religion? That’s ok, just be discrete! Wrong colour? Buy some shoe polish at the duty-free shop on your way to the plane!

    No. Fucking. Sense. Whatsoever.

Funny to see the thought police come out in force. “Heavens! Someone made it sound as if dangerously anti-progressive cultural accommodation *isn’t* only a right-wing bugaboo! Cast doubts and aspersions!” (eyeroll)
Tell me if this doesn’t just scare the crap out of you. If that was Dobson talking about establishing Biblical law in America, and if we were training NY cops in Christian theology, we’d all be soiling ourselves.

This rather reminded me of the last part of Iranian-born British comedian Shapi Khorsandi’s monolog on the most recent edition of BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show:

Now, I just want to finish up by telling you something about casual prejudice that we have. I just picked up the Lonely Planet Guide to Iran and I love the way that they describe the way to behave in Iran for tourists. It gives great advice. Under clubbing and night life it says: “Dream on.” And the best bit was the bit entitled “Gay and Lesbian Travellers” in the Lonely Planet Guide to Iran:

“Homosexuality in Iran is illegal and punishable by flogging or, worse, execution. This should not deter gay or lesbian travellers.”
