Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Bark louder, little dog.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Russia bombs Ukraine’s maternity hospitals; Republicans in the House can’t sort out supporting Ukraine.

It’s a new day. Light all those Biden polls of young people on fire and throw away the ashes.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

Another missed opportunity for Jamie Dimon to just shut the fuck up.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Books are my comfort food!

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself. We’re allowed to grow past that.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Don’t expect peaches from an apple tree.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

People are weird.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Sorta off-topic but what the hell is wrong with Andrew Sullivan?

I’ll be candid. I got a nasty cold this week but I took to bed yesterday, mainly because I felt almost sick from covering the Clintons. They really do get under your skin, as sociopaths can.

If will.i.am was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.

BTW, interesting side note. The $10,000 amount at which point banks have to register your financial transaction with the government was set in 1970.

In 1970 the typical American earned $4,000/yr.

My girlfriend mentioned when she worked at the bank they’d have dozens of these transactions a day they’d have to file paperwork on.

I heard some comic riffing on Detroit. He said that their problem stemmed from building ugly cars that nobody wants.

Remember all those Congresscritters, including some Michigan Democrats, who steadfastly resisted any meaningful change in the CAFE standards? You got your way boys, I just heard on NPR that Chrysler is shutting down for the Summer.

Buck, why should we care that the Clinton campaign released that memo. The stats can be spun any way either side wants them. Or, as a better man than most once said, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

I’m surprised General Motors hasn’t announced a shutdown yet. Chrysler’s at least put some effort into design, the design is usually interesting if not particularly enticing to me. But Buicks and Caddies — who’s buying those?

BTW, the recent local (to me) tragic murder of Eve Carson, UNC student body president, is officially Big Time. Westboro Baptist Church is coming. *sigh*

why will he be running against a McCain / Clinton ticket in November ? will Hillary’s supporters refuse to vote for the Democratic nominee if it’s anyone but Hillary ? does Penn think we’re idiots ?

I’m gonna have to sorta disagree here. I don’t think that Americans love tacky middlebrow stuff per se, I think that they are easily persuaded by brilliant packaging surrounding tacky middlebrow content.

As such, despite the fact that while Obama and Clinton’s materials (positions, issues, etc) aren’t that different, Obama’s marketing of those ideas is just better packaged, marketed and produced. As a result, Obama is winning by a respectable margin at the moment and Clinton is frantically attacking his image.

Someone’s already beaten me to the point Yglesias made, but, uh, here’s another thing to consider. Have any of you guys ever considered actually trying out for American Idol? I seriously considered it, and I couldn’t do it when I read through the contract you have to sign to do it. Fox literally owns you for a couple years of your life. This actually seems to be a pretty good metaphor for exactly what one has to do to become president in our country these days.

But don’t you see? Don’t you see your destiny as a nation? You are not going to nominate Obama. You are going to nominate Hilary, and she’s probably going to lose.

That top video is more America than the bottom I’m afraid. Sure it was like watching something out of South Park, but that’s why it worked. It’s your milieu.

I love you guys, but seriously… it’s hard to watch you guys go through the process of electing a president. It’s like watching Let’s Make a Deal, where you know the hillbilly is doomed to pick the door with the goat behind it.
