Is to say so many stupid and offensive things that they just wear me down and I give up and start drinking. Today’s installment, courtesy of Mona Charen:
I am coming to believe that Barack Obama is one of the greatest con artists we’ve seen. His entire campaign has been about “coming together,” a post-racial consensus, etc. Any mention of his middle name was immediately condemned as ignorant fear-mongering. He has played the role of racial unifier with great skill and finesse.
But there is a great deal of evidence out there that he is anything but. The Reverend Wright is exhibit A. Mrs. Obama is Exhibit B. But there’s lots more.
***My own theory, FWIW, is that Obama acquired his far left views at least in part to make himself as authentically black as he could to compensate for having a white mother. His mother, of course, was very left herself. But looking the way he does, and having been raised among only white people (mother and maternal grandparents) he felt the need to better identify with his black heritage.
FWIW, if you combine the names Mona and Charen and replace one vowel you come up with the word Moran.

So they’re going same-old, same-old then? I was worried they’d try to mix it up.

I remember reading her op-ed after Pres. Nixon died. Her whole thing was “leftists hated him because they loved Alger Hiss.” No need to discuss, much less defend, anything he actually did as president– he was On Our Side, so turn your brain off, and hurl insults at everyone else.
I hate to say it, because he was obviously much more interested in honest discourse than any movement conservative today, but William F. Buckley did write a book called “McCarthy and His Enemies.” Many American self-proclaimed conservatives hate enemies real and imagined, foreign and domestic, far more than they value any principles.

Heh, I saw that post earlier this morning and thought about emailing it to you. It’s not quite as bad as Communist-Jew-gate, but it’s up there.
I don’t know why I even check the Corner every day. I can’t help it. It’s like picking at a sore, or gawking at a car crash, or loading 2 girls 1 cup.. You know the results will be ugly and painful, but you can’t help yourself.

The black population is about 13% of U.S. Yesterday on Hardball Chris Matthews’ “big number” was 13. It referred to the percentage of Americans who believe Barack Obama is a muslim.
Can someone please explain to me how Obama is lucky to be the black candidate?
White women make up a far greater percentage of the electorate that black people as a whole do – is Hillary Clinton lucky to be a woman, in that so many people are caught up in the concept of the first female President? And what about John McCain? Is there any better club to be born into than the “white guy club”?
Also, am I the only one who finds it ridiculous when Tucker Carlson attacks affirmative action? If it weren’t for Carlson’s conservative parents and the general conservative welfare system, would Carlson even have a job? The little twat has now been canned by CNN, PBS and MSNBC. How much longer will it be before he gets himself jobs at the National Review and FOX News like every other right-wing hack?

Ah, conservative gadfly Mona Charen. Like any fly, she supports that which provides the most shit.

My own hypothesis is that right-wingers have no idea what the term “scientific theory” means because to them, it means unmitigated, unsubstantiated, fact-free blathering psycho-babble similar to what Mona Charen has so thoughtfully puked onto the intertubes.

One of the greatest con artists? For sake of argument, I’ll accept Charen’s insanity. Obama’s “cons” don’t even approach the level of a freshman Young Republican on a bad day. Cons on the American people are s.o.p. in the Republican handbook.

What astonishes me is I catch myself wondering, re: Charens of this world, if there really ISN’T any kayfabe for them to break.
Billy K
I’d be surprised if he appeared at NR or FOX. I don’t think he’s considered “one of them.”
ThymeZone
Why the outrage? This is the executive overview of the anti-Obama material we have all seen already.
Charen is a GOP Machine mouthpiece, always has been.
Hardly a surprise that the GOP is exercising its portfolio of Obama material, and less of a surprise that they are doing it through her. She did it to the Clintons for years. She’s a stealth version of Ann Coulter. She appears to be “nicer” but it’s the same exact message.
The question is, now, how do we conduct politics, and policy, in an atmosphere that is always kept at this level by these people?
We’re in funny times in this country. We desperately need intelligent and mentally healthy government, but we live in a political environment of crazy, dishonest and basically evil shit and toxic ideas. Half the country thinks the earth is 6000 years old.
How do we govern? Something to think about when you find yourself choosing between, say, Clinton and Obama. Do you really want another four or eight years of the people who brought you to this mess in the first place? Or do you want to try something different?
I suggest that you seriously look at the alternative, which is what I would describe as the myiq2xu mantra: Hey, their candidate is just as bad as mine. So, choose mine.
That’s a great motivator, isn’t it?
I think that our candidate might actually be better than his, and I further think that it’s not just worth taking the chance, it’s essential to take the chance.
Who do you like? The new guy who offers change, or the old woman who, like myiq2xu, says “It’s all shit, so vote for me, I have the most experience with shit.”

jenniebee
The only way it makes any sense that having a black identity helps Obama is in the same sense that being a right-wing hack job helps people like Mike Farris or any of the Kansas nutters. That is: within the party, the number of people for whom the classification is an attraction is disproportionately large when compared to the general voting population.
In other words: whether his racial identification is a help or a hindrance in the primary, it is indubitably more of a help and less of a hindrance in the primary than it will be in the general election.

Aside from the fact that you could use her face to slice cheese—that sharp-faced, prissy twit is incredibly ignorant.

Wow, I didn’t know Albert Einstein was so cynical. I always thought of him as avuncular, an agnostic who still might capitalize the word “creation” sometimes out of a general sense of awe, stuff like that. I shouldn’t be at all surprised, but still. Rushbo is hammering home the “lunatic reverend” angle today.
I heard what sounded like the screaming of a wounded psychopath coming out of one of the surrounding offices here and it was a replay on the radio of one of the good Reverends sermons.
Now I just heard Rushbo say that the Reverend was “bastardizing Christianity”.

Obama refuses to
1. Wear an American flag lapel pin
2. Hold his hand over his heart during the National Anthem
3. Pay Americans a fair wage for their sexual services
Why does Obama turn his back on them?
Is it because high-ranking call-girls are overwhelmingly white?
Is his refusal to frequent high-class hookers are sign that his “post racial” rhetoric is just talk?
These are important questions that the MSM needs to ask.
libarbarian
Obamas refusal to frequent prostitutes might be explainable if he at least would troll bathrooms or try to molest underage congressional pages.
We Republicans know that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a politician to exclusively fuck his wife.
If Obama isn’t fucking call-girls, random men, or underage boys, then what the hell is he fucking?

Mona seems to have no problem with “Derb”, though. Derb is the guy who valiantly took up the cause of rapist-murderer Wayne Dumond in The New York Post until the Huckster finally released him to mollify the insane wingers.
Wayne murdered two women after his release, but to Mona he’s still just her old buddy “Derb”. Derb should never be allowed to speak to decent people again, not that Mona is decent.

I’m surprised to see they are still holding Obama’s wife’s comments against her.
Huh? Nonono, they’re holding Obama’s wife’s comments against him. Because, you see, his refusal to divorce his wife and leave his church demonstrates his enthusiastic support of the worst possible interpretation of every controversial thing they ever said. I await, with bated breath, the day Michelle Malkin discovers that some member of Obama’s (8000-strong) congregation is an illegal alien, or deals drugs, or, God forbid, is a convicted sex offender. WHAT IS THE OBAMA-NAMBLA CONNECTION? The investigation thereof is vital to the future of this great nation!
Sigh. It must be nice to be a Republican and believe that guilt by association is the sine qua non of political argumentation. Makes things so easy.

Republican Stratergery:
1. Piss everyone off.
2. Appeal to the basest of the base.
3. Scratch head over stinging defeat.
Brachiator
This stuff is reprehensible. So, where the Clinton/Ferraro one-two punch tried to present Obama as untested, appealing only because he is black, and unqualified because, you know, “all those people” are unqualified affirmative action babies, Mona Charen is going for the Obama as a dangerous radical, and untrustworthy, shifty black man.
She repeats the nonsense that John Cole linked from and earlier National Review piece which attempted to slime Obama’s parents since back in the 60s only trouble-making white (often Jewish) women would marry “Negroes,” while good Negroes understood that interracial marriage was bad.
But then she adds the retarded right’s other favorite theme, that prominent Democratic Party blacks, like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Obama is another hustler, but one hiding in a mainstream politician disguise.
The attempt at a knock out punch is the notion that “black heritage” and being “authentically black” is somehow intimately connected with being a radical or a con man. That is, being black, unless one has been cleansed of sin by embracing the GOP, is inherently un-American. Note how Obama, and his parents are not simply “liberal,” the conservatives’ favorite slur, but left, very left. And Obama cannot even be seen as a legitimate politician, but rather must be depicted as by nature duplicitous.
The line in the sand has been drawn. It’s too bad that Senator Clinton and the Democratic Party at large do not close ranks and fight this this crap head on. The fear on the right is palpable, and even though we have seen early in the campaign that many people are willing to reject this stuff, clearly the question that the Republicans are asking any non-black who might support Obama is “How could you possibly vote for … him?”
tBone
jenniebee, IIRC, is a Hillary supporter. And no, I don’t think what she said was racist.
Nice try, though.

The Republican strategy apparently is to steal money and use it for illegals purposes too. This just arrived in my mailbox from WaPo (warning: subscription firewall):
The former treasurer for the National Republican Congressional Committee diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars — and possibly as much as $1 million — of the organization’s funds into his personal accounts, GOP officials said yesterday, describing an alleged scheme that could become one of the largest political frauds in recent history.
For at least four years, Christopher J. Ward, who is under investigation by the FBI, allegedly used wire transfers to funnel money out of NRCC coffers and into other political committee accounts he controlled as treasurer, NRCC leaders and lawyers said in their first public statement since they turned the matter over to the FBI six weeks ago.

This is Johnny McPain’s “pastor Wright.” Does Mona Charen really think her side can win a battle of the batshit crazy this year? With Mcpain as their poster boy, with Iraq, with a recession, with 76% of Americans being basically fed up with the current government and state of affairs?
Why do we care what this broad thinks?

Slightly Off-Topic:
Another case of Clintonian denial worthy of the guy holding the sign.
Yes, you read that right: Obamas decision to remove, along with almost every other candidate, his name from the Michigan ballot was not only NOT a good-faith attempt to follow the rules nor even a tactical mistake caused by naivety – it was a bad-faith effort to embarrass Clinton by making her look bad for her decision to leave her name on. Furthermore, he then followed this up with another bad-faith effort to “humiliate” her by denying her the 100% of the vote she should have earned as the only participant uncontested election.
I haven’t seen such a stubborn denial of empirical reality and willingness to embrace a warped interpretation of the few facts they do acknowledge since the Bush boosters stopped telling us that there was no insurgency and that increasing violence in Iraq both wasn’t happening and was a good sign of desperation by our enemies who were about to give in an join the flourishing Democracy.
I know that this wont be popular, but it needs to be said:
It doesn’t matter how experienced, intelligent, or well-intentioned you are. If you insistently deny unpleasant empirical realities you cannot avoid catastrophic failures of epic proportions.
The next president HAS to be part of the “reality-based community”. I’m seriously beginning to wonder if the Obama-Clinton split isn’t a sign of a much deeper split between the faction of the Democratic party that is part of the “reality-based community” and the faction that is as outside and contemptuous of it as the Bush-Republicans.

…
I would change that too “Like other Hillary hard-liners, she starts with the assumption that Clinton obviously and indisputably deserves the votes of right-thinking people, so only some kind of psychological flaw, moral failure or logical fallacy can explain why so many smart, accomplished people aren’t getting in line.”
LiberalTarian
Oh yay. I love to hate Republicans. Let’s do it some more.
jcricket
I’m sorry, but this applies just as equally to “Obama hard-liners”. I’ve heard exactly the same thing applied to anyone who supports Hillary. Sure, it’s couched as a factual argument, but really it’s the opinions of people who love Obama so much that there’s just “no rational reason” to vote for Hillary. It’s impossible for these people to see that they see Hillary’s actions through the same kind of prism the Hillary hard-liners see Obama.
Reminds me of Dustin Diamond (Screech) on Celebrity Fit Club arguing that he uses “facts and logic” only in his arguments while basically proceeding to piss everyone off all the time.
I’m not going to argue the candidates are equal, or running the same campaign. Far from it. But back to what Atrios said basically forever ago in Internet time (2 weeks):
