It’s official! Cap’n Ed has sailed a little farther into Wingnutistan to join the rest on the sinking ship that is Hot Air. What a shame. Agree with him or not, there was a time when Ed Morrissey’s ideas were well thought out and rational. On the upside, Captain’s Quarters is one less link we’ll have to click for our daily dose of the heebie jeebies!

Bryan Preston is now his “colleague”.

Michael, your post reminded me of something; that the Captain has become more unreadable in part because he himself has seemed to be growing more disagreeable with time. Not all his posts are like that; even now I can read through a minority of his writings and find myself not wanting to close the page. This is not about agreeing or not agreeing with what he says, its about having your own views challenged and respecting your protagonist. We are surely not the only ones to have noticed a steady deterioration in the tune and respectfulness of his blog; it’s just as well then that he joined the cauldron of spite known as Hot Air.
Actually, Captain Ed reminds me of Rick Moran of Right Wing Nut House in this respect, as he seems to have gone along an even more dramatic slide in readability. Could it be that both these men just don’t enjoy blogging anymore? What is it that turns us off to their rants? Any ideas?

I did a serious double take when it was announced at Balloon Juice that Capt Ed is joining Hot Air…

Love the cartoon where it accuses GORE of tring to steal the election. Pot, met Projection.

Capn’ Ed becomes a Land Ho.

Capn’ Ed should be proud to belong to the same company that brought you the Malkin Cheerleader video.
And the Graeme Frost Stalking.

I suspect that with his roughly one third increase in total comp, he’s probably laughing all the way to the bank. And for damn sure, he won’t miss any of your “hits.”

The “once readable” right-wing bloggers are basically just hitched to the wrong horse (GW Bush, smash-and-grab GOP) and they keep “doubling down” with each gambit (surge, torture, SCHIP) in an attempt to win back the credibility they’ve lost. And each time they lash out at everyone else at the table (their readers) rather than cut their losses and walk away from the table to re-evaluate (e.g. John Cole, Belgravia Dispatch’s Greg Djerijian).

Just a minor adjustment:
Wingnutland does not look upon their [insert your own derogatory adjective here] views as a “sinking ship” – they prefer to refer it as “becoming one with the sea.”

Proof or it didn’t happen.

I’m sure he is right up until the point that he discovers due to the wonders of inflation that he is actually getting paid in real value about half of what he thinks he is.

News from two weeks ago?
Damn, that’s a long bender, Demmons, even for you.

That’s an interesting thought, jcriket; what do you suppose would happen when BushCo leaves office? Can these guys become readable again, or are they too far gone to make a return to some semblance of reality? My bet would be on burn-out and a blog retirement before any change in direction taking place, but who is to say that the Captain and Rick Moran can’t pull a John Cole-style return to common sense? I wouldn’t bet on it though…
