Dear Bobbleheads,
Please find some fresh talking points. “Academic Ivory Tower Elite” v. “Jest Plain Folks” is particularly tired.
America has had seven years of what you consider “Jest Plain Folks” and less than 30% still thinks that is a good idea.
Also, when you say Jacksonian to the Jest Plain Folks crowd, they’ll think you’re talking about Michael Jackson, which doesn’t help your favored candidate one little bit.

I guess if they write something with which you agree, as in the linked article, then it’s largely irrelevant that it comes from an organization founded by a likely anti-Semite, Pat Buchanan, and an outright one, Taki Theodoracopulos.

I’d be interested to know what Larison means by this:
“The academic in me can’t rationalise a path to backing Obama, either, but in my case it isn’t because he lacks some intangible fighting spirit. If anything, he is too willing to use force or endorse its use when it is unnecessary or misguided. ”
That is the first time I’ve heard that complaint about Obama.

Dismissing anything and everything because it comes from a publication that you don’t like is one of the basic traits of a wingnut.

The ultimate “pot versus kettle” comment.
kwAwk
For it to be a ‘pot versus kettle’ comment you would have to demonstrate that I have a habit of dismissing content because of the source, which I don’t think you’ll find.
Or possibly you are insinuating that I myself am a wingnut which I can certainly assure you I’m not.

Ya know…
I’m a college graduate and a professional licensed to practice my chosen field, who’s father (drove a beer truck for 35 years) and mother (shipping clerk) worked their asses off to put me through university and who worked in sewers on summer breaks (really, down manholes, in a wet suit) to make tuition money, and who is now proud to know a little bit about art and music and reads a book once in a while…
I’m really starting to get pissed off at these assh**ls declaring that I’m not ‘real people’. These dumbass pundits who lick Bush’s scrotum and believe that some frat boy prep school boss’s nephew wanker likes to clear brush on his free time and is the guy we’d like to have a beer with can kiss my hairy white ass.
Thank you. I feel much better now.

Thank you very much Aldorossi. You have added chirping birds amid rustling treetops to the soundtrack of my mood.
I don’t want to engage in a class war, and I’m tired of people walking through and shoving us all one side or another because they’re lazy thinkers. I’m already a traitor to my gender, apparently, and this discovery has done nothing but make me a slight misogynist. Thanks everyone. And, more recently, I’m a race traitor because I don’t think Obama threw his grandmother under a bus. I’m starting to hate everyone now. Except Aldorossi.

“[Bush is] not an intellectual. Intellectuals start all the trouble in the world.” — Peggy Noonan, 2004
This is just the old Pol Pot gambit. Kill all the college professors, then kill everyone who wears glasses and likes to read. As I recall, that didn’t work out too well in Cambodia in the 70s.

kwAwk asked about Larison’s reasoning behind his comment on Obama’s foreign policy. You can find much of it here:

Thanks xenos.

When your opponent’s supporters are smarter than yours, you call them “academics.”
When they’re more enthusiastic than yours, you call them “cultists.”

A loud and resounding cheer for Daniel Larison. Mr. Larison appears to be intellectually honest.
