Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

No one could have predicted…

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

People are complicated. Love is not.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Come on, man.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

“woke” is the new caravan.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

At least according to Congressman Geoff Davis (R-1960).

“I’m going to tell you something: That boy’s finger does not need to be on the button,” Mr. Davis said. “He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country.”

Das right! Massah don’t need no negroes wit dey fingahs on da button.

Asshole.

Go to http://www.house.gov and to his web site. Find the contact form. Make up a name (I used Mortimer Snerd), and say your are from Williamstown. You can get city and zips from his house web site contacts. This is so you get past any defenses that tell you you are not a constituent. Then share how you feel, something like this, where I quotes Michael D. but expanded a little, in case he missed the point:

Das right! Massah don’t need no negroes wit dey fingahs on da button. Why din’ you just call him a ‘NIGGER’ and be done with it? Then you could run off to your Klan meeting and jack around with the your white boys from the hood. You pathetic, racist, scumbag. Your constituents must be mighty proud of you for putting that boy in his place. The very thought of a nigger running for President. What is the world coming to?

Racism is alive and kicking in Amerika, but the sad part is seeing both sides engage in it with such gusto. I sent Obama another $50.00 about an hour ago just because of the crap he is dealing with. I want him to know that I am still there, and I have his back. There is no better way to let him know that I have not, and will not, change my mind. Right now, nothing speaks louder than primary spending cash. I am in this for the long haul, and I know that the general is going to be a thousand times worse than anything Hillary and her mob have thrown at him so far.

I think Davis and his type are coming out of the garbage like the maggots they are. Oh, he apologized. But the tactic will be repeated over and over from now on. Some racist ass will ‘innocently’ utter a dogwhistle code word or phrase, and then quickly apologize. It gets it out there, and then absolves them of any guilt because they apologized.

In an off topic (in a way) point, I quit religion for a reason similar to what I stated above. I never could understand the ‘sin all week and get absolution on Sunday’ grind of the religion machine. As kids, we all quickly reasoned that we could do anything we wanted to because as long as we asked for forgiveness on Sunday then we were in good shape. This really bothered me because I was taught that the bible was absolute, yet the preachers are handing out ‘Get Out Of Hell Free’ cards. Oh, and please leave a tip in the tray for God, ok?

Watching the revolving door on the confessional quickly showed that all the church was doing was allowing sinners to feel good about their actions. The same thing goes on with people like Davis, who deliberately say something designed to impugn and malign and then apologize afterward. This is a favorite tactic of the right, and you can bet that there is going to be a lot of insincere apologizing to Obama from here on out.

When Obama wins the primary, no matter how the general turns out, this is going to be one for the history books. The good, bad and the ugly will be examined, dissected and discussed by historians forever more.

Here is a pretty good summary of anti-Clinton arguments, most of which you find here.

Misogyny and racism are often linked, in practice, when authoritarians are fighting a rear-guard action like the institutional GOP is doing now. I am not surprised they are doing this, but the blue-on-blue from the Clinton camp is unacceptable.

In the spirit of JC’s dicta, I will stop that rant for the time being, Bernarda. Points for using Amptoons, but next time use ellipses to indicate critical editing. Extra credit available for finessing the distinctions worked out by Femiste, Feministing, and BitchPhD. Tie it all back into racism and power, and you will have a not OT comment that is not an attempted threadjacking.

To paraphrase a comment of mine from some time ago; how long after Jan. 2001 did it take for the DoD people responsible for ‘the button’ to actually disconnect it once they got a view of Junior in action ‘up close and personal’. I think there must have been some sort of Haig-Nixon moment with a ‘don’t let this guy near the codes’ memo got passed around.

    THREADJACKING WITH REAL NEWS:

Riots from Haiti to Bangladesh to Egypt over the soaring costs of basic foods have brought the issue to a boiling point and catapulted it to the forefront of the world’s attention, the head of an agency focused on global development said Monday.

The G8 spent a quite a bit of time discussing this. We are truly in deep shit here.

Yah national opinion polls up here in Canada, which I agree with wholeheartedly, is to lock our natural resources and food production down. Keep the oil, water, food, arable land etc under tight control. The US re our water was specifically mentioned along with oil, sorry to say.

Can’t imagine why people view the GOP as the more racist party. Nope. Not at all.

Why do I have this feeling that January 20th will be something like Blazing Saddles:

[GOP luminary (with laurel wreath in hand) greets Barrack (the new president), reading from a piece of paper, not realizing that Barrack is black]

GOP luminary: As chairman of the welcoming committee, it’s a pleasure to present a Laurel and Hardy handshake to our new
    [finally looks up] … n*****.

Welp, I care about people but I will say that I will no longer care for those who vote AGAINST their own self interests so they can feel better that nobody will take their bibles or guns.

Argh. I want to care but all I get are comments that I am this or that or not American enough or leave us alone.

Fine, but don’t ask me for help when your home is flooded out and the insurance company cheats you. YOU vote for this kind of nonsense.

Don’t sit here crying that Wal Marts are putting your small business out of business. YOU vote for this.

Do not cry to me that you can’t get good medical care at a fair price or your employer cut your benefits. YOU vote for this.

I am not advocating socialism. What I am advocating is to drop the stupid belief that one party is better than the other AND VOTE FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE. Whether they have a D or an I next to their names.

I live in California and I go to many political blogs and read a lot of nonsense from righties that say they hope I die in an earthquake. Well, if you believe that then don’t ask me for anything (even though I will back down and donate…see the difference between myself ranting here and my compassion is that I do care in the end). I care about AMERICA but I can’t take this nonsense of folks who roll their eyes because they buy into the straw man nonsense and vote GOP all the time.

    Whatever.

The “boy” comment, I could almost let it slide. What seems stupider to me is that the congressman referred to some sort of “simulation” which proved that Obama was not suited to make crucial decisions. Let’s hear more about this simulation. Some war game, I assume, where some Republican, playing the role of President Obama, makes colossally bad decisions? And from that exercise, the congressman concludes that the real Obama would do the same? Hmm. Sounds like a great way to judge someone.
