Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

We still have time to mess this up!

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Republicans in disarray!

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

ActBlue Update

This post is in: Election 2008

The good people at Act Blue sent me an email letting me know they had added this widget type function, so I thought I would post it. It allows you to set your goal, and then easily keep track of it. I decided to up the ante a little and shoot for 15k rather than just 10k.

Goal Thermometer

At any rate, just click on the graphic and it should take you to the page to donate to Obama.

Kinda cool.

Shouldn’t you put that in the sidebar somewhere so that it doesn’t drop down over time? Or will that conflict with your ads?

Obama says if you donate $30 between now and April 30th he’ll send you a slick poster. Now I’m torn.

Question for anyone: The Obama website diligently tracks me and my contributions against the $2300 primary-campaign limit.

Every email they send me contains a reference to my total so far and how much I can still add before reaching the limit.

I assume that once we get to GE funding, it will do the same again.

Does this third-party donation mechanism do that? Or, does it forward the donor’s information to the Obama database for tracking? Or ….?

Also, how do we know whether donations through the 3rd party mechanism are going toward primary limits, as opposed to GE limits? And how do we know how, and when, the Obama campaign actually gets this money?

    Wow…

We’re third in number of donaters. 3 more to move into second place.

We’re also 4th in money raised.

    Very fuckin’ impressive.

    Moving the goalposts? Nice.

    Hypocrite.

I’ll donate again when payday rolls around, Mr. Goalpost Mover. In the meantime, the spousal unit and I availed ourselves of Early Voting at the local library and cast two votes (one each, this ain’t Chicago) for Barack Obama today.

I have to admit to not having given anything. I’m still bitter about them thinking I’m too rich to deserve a subsidy because I make over $75k.

Otherwise I would have used the $600 to buy a gun, and give some money to Obama.

Howdy all! I work for ActBlue (actually the same person who let John know about our new feature) and I’m happy to answer ThymeZone’s questions — as well as any other questions you all might have.

First, ActBlue acts as a conduit for these funds. This means that a contribution from you — using ActBlue — to Obama counts against your overall limit to Obama for the primary.

Second, we cut an aggregate check every Monday to all campaigns who received funds through ActBlue during the previous 7 days. All federally required information is accessed by the campaign each week via our website, and they import that into their internal database.

If you would like to verify that we do in fact pass this money on to the campaign (and I don’t blame you, nothing wrong with some healthy skepticism) you can look up our monthly reports to the FEC:

    http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00401224/

They are a bit hefty since we move millions of dollars a month to thousands of Democratic campaigns, but if you look through the CSV data offered you can track each contribution as it comes through our system. We have a legal obligation to pass on any money received within 10 days, but we do it every 7 since that is way easier to keep track of.

Any other questions, feel free to fire away here in the comments or email me at [email protected]

    I make 70k but we’re getting a full $1200 because I’m married to a teacher muahaha.

Next paycheck or possibly when we get our refund I’m in for the BalloonsforObama. It will be my first ever political contribution, no joke.

Nate, one question…how much do you keep from each contribution to deal with overhead? Or do you rely solely on the optional tips.

    Are you taking a cut?

No! Your earmarked donations are sent to the candidates you designate. We do appreciate an extra “tip” on your candidate contributions to help fund our efforts, which you can make on the page where you enter your credit card information.

Remember, we’re a PAC, not a business. Our goal is to get as much money to Democrats as we can.

No check here, either… would’ve been perfect timing to get a PS3 and GTA 4. Damn shame, that.
