Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

“Alexa, change the president.”

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

just a note in WordPress’s defense: Sadly,No also uses WP, as does Cosmic Variance (#4 in TLB’s ecosystem) and Crooks&Liars (#14) and i’ve never seen the db connection error page on those sites.

BJs problem is likely a configuration issue somewhere.

Perhaps hosting a dynamic content website on a Commodore 64 wasn’t such a swell idea after all?

Finally, some sense from Clinton and Marsh.

Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday it would be “the height of political foolishness” for Democrats to back a Republican, or not vote at all, if they’re disappointed by the outcome of the long-running nomination battle between her and Barack Obama.

“Anyone, anyone, who voted for either of us should be absolutely committed to voting for the other” in the general election, Clinton said during an hourlong meeting with The Indianapolis Star Editorial Board. “I’m going to shout that from the mountaintops and the valleys and everywhere I can, no matter what the outcome of the nominating process is.”…

Clinton to Dems: Don’t switch sides

The rest of her site is still batshit insane.

I feel so left out. I want to join in the pointing and laughing at John in the BSG predictions thread, but I’ve only seen the show through the second or third episode of season three, so I know next to nothing about this whole “final cylon” mystery. I don’t even know if Starbuck’s athlete is still alive myself. Either way, though, John’s prediction was classic.

Driving down to the salt mine today, and listening to the politics channel on SM radio, I heard a lengthy and conversation interview with Karl Rove.

I had never heard him just talk at length before, and I was …. dumbfounded …. by what a brilliant political strategist this guy is. Nothing excapes his notice, and his analyses are impeccably objective and rational. Just fucking amazing. I can’t say much for his ethics, but his understanding of the real time nature of politics is well beyond anything I’ve heard before from any pundits or so-called experts.

One of the topics he discussed was his recent column in which he talked about how he would advise Barack Obama to improve his campaign. The insights were spot on, and the advice seemed to me to be sound and well worth taking.

Mainly, it involved re-energizing the message of unity and post-partisanship that fueled his early success, but with new material and new current relevance. Also, Rove said that Obama still had a chance to handle the Wright controversy the right way, which is to spend less time being cautious about his responses and go from the gut, with one clear and direct response, and stick to it. Namely, Wright is wrong, and I don’t want any part of Wright’s divisive arguments. Rove said that if Obama had made that his first, instead of his fifth, response to the Wright problem, it would be a settled matter by now and he could move on.

Sounded like damn good advice to me. Thoughts?

I look forward to the time that BJ is not the slowest loading site on the intertubes and the cognisenti here doesn’t MUP flip flop. They couldn’t rave enough about his Bill Moyers appearance last week. Now they can’t agree with Rush enough.

Anyone hear about this latest voter suppression tactic that looks like it has Clinton fingerprints all over it? If this is true, then Hillary has some ‘splainin to do. I thought that the right are the only ones who are interested in suppressing Democratic turnout.

Oh, right. Hillary is a Republican. Now it makes sense!

People should go to jail for this crap.

No, you moron, that he is so objective in his analyses, and willing to be that way publicly.

The problem with Rove is that while he is obviously a brilliant political thinker, he seems to think that everything is politics and politics is everything.

When his thinking is applied down to the gut reactions of ordinary voters, it seems right on target. Too bad he couldn’t have applied this brilliance to politicians whose ethics operated at the same high level of functioning. Too bad he sold out to the Bush family.

Nope. I did the early voting thing the first weekend it opened, and there was decent turnout for an early date. I haven’t been watching a lot of TV, but what I’ve watched, I’ve seen nuthin’. My guess (and it’s just a guess) is that Clinton isn’t going to be spending too much money on TV here; since she’s cash-strapped, I expect that the TV buys are all going to be in IN, where she has a chance of winning.

Interestingly, Poppy fired him back in the day. Couldn’t stomach his ethics, it seems.

Then Rove got a look at Junior and decided he was mold-able.

    So I hear.

dumbfounded …. by what a brilliant political strategist this guy is.

I have always admired his political genius. He was able to pull enough people together and get what will go down in history as the most imcompetent person to ever hold the office of the President elected……twice.

Purely and unashamedly Machiavellian. I can’t help but marvel at those kinds of people.

I got into a discussion with my dittohead father about a week ago about the Obamas. He likes Barack actually, but can’t stand Michelle. After he said she hates white people my response was instantaneous:

“She married a half white man. Someone who hates white people would not choose to have children that are a quarter white. They wouldn’t choose to spend birthdays and holidays with a white family (does Barack have a single black relative in America?). They certainly wouldn’t go to Princeton. How many members of the KKK do you know that would marry someone that’s half black?”
