Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

I desperately hope that, yet again, I am wrong.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

The words do not have to be perfect.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Fani Willis claps back at Trump chihuahua, Jim Jordan.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Republicans don’t trust women.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Even though I know this is a bad idea, I’m off to do it anyway!

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you don’t.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Let’s finish the job.

Good Times at the Pittsburgh Rally

by John Cole|  April 22, 200810:22 am| 30 Comments

This post is in: Election 2008

Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, who has a history of, umm, interesting comments, made her presence known at the Clinton rally in Pittsburgh yesterday by grabbing the microphone as it was being handed to President Clinton and claiming that several prominent PA Democrats “hate women”:

Getting elected in this country is such a total pain in the ass- everyone of your supporters is a potential liability, so you have to tap dance through a minefield of idiocy. At any rate, my father called to tell me about this one, and according to him, Lt. Gov. Knoll went on to state that she had “loafed” with Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea for 25 years, and later on, when asked to respond, Bill stated he had never “loafed” with “that woman,” which I thought that was a pretty amusing response. For some reason, the only video I can find is the one above without the “loafing” bit.

I really feel sorry for anyone running to have to go through this crap.

Why Avoid The Media

by John Cole|  April 22, 20089:13 am| 53 Comments

This post is in: Election 2008, Media

This latest nonsense (Wafflegate), ginned up by the Talk Left crowd and others, is positively absurd:

What’s the big deal? Why is this news? Because, as Jay Newton-Small at Time’s Swampland explains, Obama hasn’t given a press conference in 10 days and the reporters had no other opportunity to ask him.

I dunno. Campaigning for a year solid for 16 hours a day, criss-crossing the country while morons question you about the deep thoughts of your former pastor, and whether or not your pastor is patriotic enough for you to be President, and I can’t imagine why someone would just want to eat their damned waffle and not talk to Jake Tapper and his friends.

Maybe the press could spend some time digging into Cindy McCain’s tax records if they are so damned bored.

*** Update ***

I concur. Thank GOD he was not eating French toast.

If you live in PA, do your thing. I say Clinton by 8-10.

*** Update ***

And now, starring in the role of Ricky Ray Rector, Iran:

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton confirmed Monday that as president she would be willing to use nuclear weapons against Iran if it were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel.

Clinton’s remarks, made in an interview on MSNBC’s “Countdown With Keith Olbermann,” clarified a statement she made last week in a Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia. In that debate, Clinton, D-N.Y., said an Iranian attack on Israel would bring “massive retaliation,” without defining what the phrase meant.

Three thoughts:

1.) She will simply say anything to get elected.
2.) Are the roles reversed anywhere else in the civilized world- is there some place where candidates, on their respective national television channels, play out their war fantasies in which they nuke the United States?
3.) This is why I am not watching any more news until this person is dispatched from the race.

Snow Job?

by Tim F|  April 21, 20089:37 pm| 39 Comments

This post is in: Media

Speaking as the house loony liberal, cheers to CNN for hiring Tony Snow. I don’t even know what they’ll pay him to do, though I’m guessing that conveniently forgetting the indelible link between supporting the president and supporting the troops will play into it. Well enough; every network will have a Kristol or, god save us all, Michelle Malkin to cry on a daily basis about the depredations of Democratic government. At least Snow is a communications professional, engaging and not obviously retarded.

In fact, that is why I think it was a good choice by CNN. I don’t mean that in any ironic snarky way, it just was. Look at it this way: Snow might be the one, singular high-level Bush appointee who showed a basic ability to do his job. He ran the press in circles of bullshit and empty phrases, but one could say that is the Press Secretary’s primary job. He didn’t out any CIA agents. If the cable channels must pay someone to repeat right-slanted nonsense every few hours, and it’s pointless pretending that won’t happen, I honestly prefer Snow to most of the alternatives.

I finished Season 1 of BSG and the ending was quite irritating. I will be ordering Season 2 from Amazon tomorrow, but I want to make sure this is the right one to order. Not sure what all this season 2.0 and season 2.5 shenanigans is all about, but let me know if that is the right one.

Also, I saw There Will be Blood over the week-end and loved it. Daniel Plainview was quite the detestable character, but Daniel Day-lewis is simply amazing.

Hiatus

The last couple of days with no news was a bit refreshing, and I think I am gonna take a few more days off, as I am just sick of the political scene. I tried to get back into things this morning, and the first thing I read was Bill Kristol attempting to determine political world views by analyzing campaign Passover statements. Seriously. Up next, Red State attempts to figure out the candidate’s tax policy by examining past Hallmark Mother’s Day cards they have sent.

Maybe I should have started my day with something other than Kristol, but maybe I just need a longer break. Besides, it isn’t like anything interesting is happening. The Democratic primary isn’t going to end for another 6 months, anyway. I will be back in a few days, but I will try to throw up some open threads every now and then so you can keep us all up to date with the stupid.

*** Update ***

Apparently Red State will not be examining Hallmark cards, as they are too busy sniffing out godless communists at google. In all seriousness, this Red State piece has to be considered an early frontrunner to sweep the 2008 Golden Wingnut Awards. If you really want to sample the hilarity of that post, go deep into the comments where we are informed that Diana Ross is a gay icon and blah blah blah:

But the video itself featuring Jesus singing and dancing to a *WELL KNOWN* gay bar/nightclub anthem (Diana Ross is still a gay icon) and then getting hit by a bus is probably the most offensive thing I’ve ever seen him do. Of course, this kind of stuff is how Larry Lessig became a rockstar in the first place.

One problem- Gloria Gaynor sang I Will Survive, the song in the video that offended Red State. They are so offended, they don’t even know what they are offended about. I await their deep thoughts on Julie Newmar and Ethel Merman.

Lawmakers FINALLY Get Down To Important Business

by Michael D.|  April 21, 20088:57 am| 28 Comments

This post is in: Sports, General Stupidity

Having solved Social Security, poverty, the War in Iraq, SCHIP, tax reform, Medicare, illegal wiretapping, and other such trivial issues, some lawmakers have latched onto an issue that will, no doubt, positively affect the lives and living conditions of millions of Americans: College Bowl Reform!

Reps. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga., and Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, are introducing a resolution rejecting the oft-criticized bowl system as an illegal restriction on trade because only the largest universities compete in most of the major bowl games. The resolution would require Justice’s antitrust division to investigate whether the system violates federal law.

The measure also would put Congress on record as supporting a college football playoff.

“Who elected these NCAA people? Who are they to decide who competes for the championship?” Abercrombie said at a press conference Thursday on Capitol Hill, gripping a souvenir University of Hawaii football.

The more important question is: OMFG, who elected these morons?

(h/t James)
