Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Republicans don’t trust women.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

I really should read my own blog.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

I didn’t have alien invasion on my 2023 BINGO card.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Happy Mission Accomplished Day!

A few days late; that’s what I get for focusing on my paid job. Anyhow, here’s a popular favorite to commemorate the occasion.

epic fail

BTW, I notice from the post below that we raised eleven thousand freaking dollars for Barack Obama. That’s a lot of money. How much has Kos raised so far? Anybody know? If we can beat RedState-zilla to win a Nobel Peace Prize webbie award then we can kick Markos’s ass. I bet that we can even do it with first-time donors. If you already gave through the link, take a break and spend your money on pizza for a day or two. If you haven’t, click the link and leave a ten spot. It’s as easy as buying a CD from Amazon.

The odds are pretty good that many of you never gave to a campaign before. Yet if you’re reading this blog then odds are good that you’re pissed off about something, you live in America and you have the income to support a net connection, which means that you’re a prime candidate. Plus, in one sense it doesn’t even matte how much you give. The number of unique donors is as important for a campaign as the total dollar value. All you need to do is drop $10 or $25 to register your support and you’ve already made a difference.

…and if that doesn’t work, there is a whole internet full of Katherine Harris photos that I’m not afraid to use if I have to.

Harris

You know what to do.

How can the DFH’s here cough up so much money? I’m thinking that there’s been a rash of convenience store robberies.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Easy there big John. No need to do anything rash. Just put the mouse down. Let’s talk this out. No one here wants to see that and I think we can all get out of here in one piece if we keep everyone’s best interests at heart.

Just put down the mouse, John. Easy. Easy, now.

Kos, Open Left, etc (Blue Majority) have raised $18k for Obama with 794 donors.

BJ is in second place in donors with 229 and 4th place in terms of cash with $11k

Okay, okay, I went and plunked in my little fifteen bucks. And I’d just sent in another fifteen just before you set up the whole website thingy.

And I’ll say this here and not on the latest Hillary thread. She not only is going for low information voters, but low information phone bankers. Since I’m in Oregon I’m now getting hit with the calls, and they do not seem to be smart people. Obama’s folk started calling me months ago looking for cash, and they’re much brighter.

My husband already gave our monthly bit to the Obama campaign from his work. I don’t think he went through Act Blue. sorry.
He is not a blog person.
The first time I ever gave to a campaign was a little over a year ago when I made my first donation to Obama. I’ve been donating ever since.

Krista — she’s not just demented, she’s crazy. *And* she’s got dreadful judgment in what constitutes “food”.

Brewer’s yeast is only good for one thing, and that’s being combined with hops, malted barley, and water to make beer.

I had to look Vegemite up. I never heard of it.

Now, that I have- HELL no! That stuff looks and sounds disgusting. I wouldn’t do that to anyone.

Brewer’s Yeast is powdery and light-brown. I buy it in bulk at Whole Foods. I only eat it on popcorn, though I know others that put it on other foods as well.

I’d try it. (Just ’cause my Dad raised me to always give a new food two chances before saying I didn’t like it.) One never knows.

Nah, brewer’s yeast is less interesting than Vegemite, and you really can’t make sandwiches of it. But Vegemite doesn’t really work very well on popcorn — although I think that Vegemite popcorn balls sound almost worthy of BIRDZILLA.

Flaked brewer’s yeast is great on a whole host of things including popcorn, breakfast cereal and pasta. Now that I’m brewing pretty much all the time, I wonder whether it’s possible to dry down that huge yeast cake after caning the beer. If I eat all that stuff I’ll live to a hundred and fifty.

My popcorn recipe is butter, salt, pepper, dill weed, paprika, a smidgen of red pepper (sometimes), a dash of dry Parmesan cheese and brewer’s yeast. I adjust the amount of ingredients based on how much popcorn I have.

And Demi, Birdzilla sounds like the only being who might even eat popcorn with vegemite.

Yes, and it was also my main supplement when I was expecting 35 years ago. My son was 8lbs 2oz and had a full, full head of hair.

OMG, Genine. Yes, combining dill weed and paprika is the gateway to gastronomic glory. I use it in tomato soup, carrot and/or squash soup, mac and cheese, beef stew, egg salad — and when I next make popcorn, I’ll use it there, too.

Hey, Tim, I’ve got some brewer’s supplies that my ex-husband left in the basement that I’m thinking of listing on the Toronto Craigslist. Do you think asking $25 for a glass carabiner, with a box of 150 bottle caps and a bottling tool thrown in, is reasonable?

Register for Act Blue. Then subsequent donations take less than 20 seconds. Now, every time Hilary pisses me off, I donate five bucks to Obama. VERY therapeutic, worth the money, about the same price as a drink in a bar and just as pleasurable.

Mary, if everything works, then yes, $25 Canadian is quite reasonable for that — if anything, a little low.

    May 4, 2008 at 4:09 pm

Thanks, demi. From what I can see, a 5-6 gallon carboy (err, yeah, not carabiner) goes for about $20 new and a manual capper about $10-15, with the caps at about $2, so $25 used versus $32-37 new seemed a good price point. Maybe I’ll just ask for $30 and be prepared to go down to $25.
