We did it:
Congratulations and thanks. Just got back from a few hours of phone-banking (I really suck at it- I get impatient when I get a number of no answers, then take it deeply personally when they tell me they are supporting Nixon Hillary.), and I am here to report that the Morgantown Obama HQ is fueled by chocolate, caffeine, and IPOD music.
At any rate, 15k in two weeks is pretty awesome.
Incertus
Well, you’ll no doubt get a kick out of this story–not a link to my site for once.
Adam
TalkLeft is looking for money, too, but, uh, not for any candidates. They’re “working really hard. Not just at keeping you up to date with the latest on tomorrow’s primaries, but in making sure the site stays civil and weeding out the drive-bys.” Wonder who they’re talking about?
Existenz
Good for you on the phonebanking. I also had some bad experiences in 2004, going door to door in Las Vegas for John Kerry. Most folks weren’t home, half of the ones I did meet were pissed off at receiving so many election-based phone calls, and another percentage were Bush voters who thought he was “a strong man”.
Luckily there were also some happy Kerry voters who made it worth it. It’s too bad we lost that election; from the verge of near euphoria to a deep depression that lasted a month.
Hopefully this time will be different.
Genine
Awww, tough day? Phone banking may have sucked, but at least you come back to good news!
That should soothe you.
Zifnab
He’s thwaking heads in Orgrimmar as we speak. That’s what soothes the savage Cole.
slag
Yay! Earnestness in action.
ThymeZone
Wow, tough crowd here. It’s a helluva thing you all did here, especially you John. Kudos.
I maxed out on my primary limit to Obama already so I was just a spectator on this, and it’s damned impressive.
Congrats, and a hat tip to all who participated.
Genine
Whatever it takes!
jack fate
Congrats! I donated once through another site and would’ve donated here if I wasn’t about to be “restructured” and “reorganized” somewhere near the unemployment line. But either way, it’s mind blowing to see money raised this way. Since these shitheads seem to be “for sale,” I’m glad people (myself included) are beginning to figure out how to afford them.
W0OT!

John’s one of those meanies who kills poor Gamon over and over? So sad.
Hey, congratulations to one and all! Nice work.
Jon H
They’re totally going to kick you out of Pajamas Media if you keep this up. :)

“TalkLeft is looking for money, too, but, uh, not for any candidates”
Maintaining purity of thought doesn’t come cheap, you know.

I don’t often post for the record, but ….
As of five minutes ago, I insist on a new rule.
All supporters of the Hillary Clinton are required to watch the Countdown rebroadcast this evening on MSNBC, taking note of the Olbermann piece on “insignificant” states and voters as described by her campaign.
As of tomorrow, anyone who has seen the piece and still wants to argue that this horrible woman still ought to be our nominee is prohibited from every being taken seriously again, on any subject, under any conditions.
Any such supporter who has not seen the piece is disqualified also. For failure to do due diligence.
Countdown re-airs in about 90 minutes, IIANM. The piece airs right after the 15-minute mark, into the broadcast.
Watch it, and learn. And be humbled.
Dulcie
TZ, I saw Olbermann’s segment on votes that don’t count and thought exactly the same thing you did. It’s truly amazing how many excuses Hillary and her minions have come up with since Super Tuesday.
Delia
Delia
Well that didn’t work. Let’s try again.
AFAIK all Hillary supporters have sworn off Olbermann as the AntiChrist Incarnate and would far rather watch Hannity or O’Reilly in these sad days of decay.
Rick Taylor
I’m no longer a Hillary Clinton Supporter but I’d love to see that. My access to a tv is intermittent; hopefully it will get featured online somewhere.
John Cole
Give John at C&L an hour.
El Doh
Back when I used to skim MyDD, several were proclaiming “Morning Joe” as the upright bastion of truth, fairness and accuracy. Olbermann was, and apparently had always been, a jackass who was both unfair and a misogynist.
Dennis - SGMM
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Clinton will not drop out. The Clintons will mount a floor fight to get the Florida and Michigan delegations seated. When that fails, they’ll file lawsuits in every court at every level for every reason they can think of. If the Democratic party fights these suits and the Clintons find the right judge the nomination could be held up until after the election. How’s that for a threat?
4tehlulz
>>And be humbled.
Doesn’t that get you banned at MyDD?
KRK
Clinton will drop out when her primary money dries up, which will happen eventually. A commenter over at The Field who has contacts inside the campaigns mentioned that Clinton is on a cash basis with vendors in Indiana, i.e., the word about bad debts has gotten out and people aren’t taking her chits. Unless she had a huge money month in April, the evaporation rate will only escalate.
Warren Terra
I am so sick of the Clinton supporters seeing every disparagement of (or even disagreement with) their candidate as resulting from misogyny. They’d be a lot more credible if they just denounced bias when they thought they had a case to make without every person who opposes Clinton having to be a trogdolyte.
The Grand Panjandrum
Now that is a bit strong, no? Any subject? Gosh, but I love cleek’s pie script so much. Can we make an exception for pie?
p.lukasiak
looks like the Jerry’s kid strategy…. wait until the last hour of the telethon, then show up with the big donations that put you over the top of your “goal”…
at least Jerry’s kids need the money…. you guys are just a bunch of suckers!
Notorious P.A.T.
Good luck to you. I just found a pretty good job despite the miserable job market, so there is a little hope.
Svensker
Another compelling argument from pluk. More like this, and I WILL vote for Hillary.
Warren Terra
Well, Pluk, when sometime today or tomorrow another 2700 people have become ‘suckers’ for the first time, that’ll make 1.5 million suckers. In the immortal words of Alice’s Restaurant, “Friends, they may think it’s a movement”.
Speaking of suckers, I guess it must suck to support your candidate, huh?
Dennis - SGMM
I had to reinstall my OS a couple of days ago. When I got ’round to installing Firefox I knew that there was something I was forgetting to add. Pluk reminded me what it was.
jack fate
Thanks. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. Quite honestly, I need the kick-in-the-ass.
El Doh
Ditto.
Don’t forget the flip-side where various Forces of Darkness have suddenly been elevated to being Most Excellent People on the basis of being nice about Hillary while disparaging Obama — you know, people who, once the nomination process is over would go into a 24/7 Hillary Hatefest were she the nominee.
The irony for me being they behave thusly, yet scream “Cult!” at Obama’s supporters.
Dennis - SGMM
As a Democrat, I’d feel very uncomfortable about anyone cozying up to Scarborough, Scaife, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, etc. OTOH, being on the wrong side of Olbermann would make me very uncomfortable.
jake
Holy shit. TalkLeft really is turning into RedState.
cleek
let’s hear it for The Cult !!
SoulCatcher
And that would be…?
Jon H
“Thanks. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. Quite honestly, I need the kick-in-the-ass.”
Trust me-you don’t. When I was laid of in 2001, I wasn’t worried. It took 4 years to find a goddamn job, and that only happened when my brother got a job at a company that was big enough to need the kind of programming we each did (Him: SAP, me: Java, etc) and big enough that they could hire me on his recommendation without there being a conflict of interest.
Jon H
So when are the April fundraising numbers due to be released, anyhow? There hasn’t been much mentioned about them.
Dennis - SGMM
Being in the tank for Hillary is hard work! They hit a perfect trifecta but they’re working hard to make sure of Mission Accomplished. No one could have anticipated that Clinton’s crappy campaign would have her finishing second. Etc.
Dennis - SGMM
Greasemonkey and cleeks estimable pie script. Mine only has one name in it: p.lukasiak.
Some Guy Named Matt
KRK
I believe they’re not required to file with the FEC until the 20th. Odds are the campaigns will release vague numbers after tomorrow’s primaries.
Genine
I’m with you. I’m called a sexist and misogynist and I’m a woman, just for disagreeing with a few things. I actually had an argument with a woman who was explaining how Obama saying “I think she can run as long as she wants to” was sexist. I thought she was on crack- so I’m a female misogynist. **eyeroll**
Notorious P.A.T.
Olbermann is about to re-air that segment about Hillary’s metrics.
Cain
Man, reading TPM always depresses me. :( There is some poll that shows Hillary up over Obama. I’m starting to wonder if all this craziness she’s spouting is actually getting people to vote for her. If true, that is fucked up. I mean, jeezus.. are people not using their facilities?
That’s it. It’s time for some sangria, because it’s really freaking nice here in Oregon.
cain
El Doh
You and me both.
The thing I don’t really get is firstly, those are the very people that hunted, hounded, denigrated and degraded the Clinton family — including Chelsea — for every minute of Bill’s two-term Presidency and continued to do that for years afterwards, yet all that’s forgotten because they’ll say nice things about Hillary and her campaign for a few weeks in what is obviously an attempt to just draw out the primary.
Somehow, they’re okay with that, but Obama is teh evil for what he and his surrogates and supporters have said, and someone whom, if we are to believe blog comments, many will never, ever vote for, no matter what — to the point of surrendering the SCOTUS to Conservative domination for at least a generation.
Astounding.
John Cole
I saw that countdown piece, it was brutal.
Delia
What happened to all those millions and millions of dollars in donations she received after her stunning and thoroughly unexpected come-from-behind win in Pennsylvania? Did she blow it all buying Mark Penn a steak dinner and a makeover?
Notorious P.A.T.
As a college-educated liberal who is a night person registered as an independant living in Michigan (whose governor is a woman) and a shift worker who considered becoming a teacher. . .
Mary
I want to see Mark Penn on What Not To Wear. I want to see Stacey and Clinton humiliate him before the 360 degree mirror. I want to see him cry as he gets a new haircut and a tarty makeup job.
Wait.
I don’t want to see Mark Penn at all. I just want to hear about his humiliation.
null pointer exception
I can’t vote or contribute to Obama campaign, but here’s a great video to celebrate this landmark

KRK
Cain, just stop reading TPM for now. It’s all polls all the time along with whatever Clinton’s surrogates said in the last conference call. General election polls are meaningless right now. And as for the remaining primaries, it will most likely go something like this:
Obama wins NC, OR, MT, SD
Clinton wins IN, WV, KY
Puerto Rico, who knows.
Each contest that Clinton fails to win by a blowout leaves her needing to win every remaining contest by an even greater blowout.
Superdelegates will continue to declare intentions in dribs and drabs, probably at a matched pace, which, again, only shrinks the available pool of votes from which Clinton can make up her deficit.
Appalachia was always going to be Obama’s toughest region, whenever the votes were taken. Superdelegates know this and aren’t going to be swayed by Clinton spin about momentum just because of when these particular primaries fall on the calendar. Don’t have unrealistic expectations about these states, but don’t despair either.
The Other Steve
I am now boycotting Hillary because she refuses to eliminate my state gas tax in addition to the federal one.
Genine
I watched Countdown. Indeed it was good. But some feminists wrote Keith off as sexist some time ago, so his words will fall on deaf ears in certain camps.

Yay us! And Yay Cole; that’s putting the ol’ internets to do what it does best.

Ah. Here’s Olbermann.
Royston Vasey
Yay Olberman!
Can we have a transcript of the closing monologue, please!!
Pure genius, and so well delivered.

Congratulation John on making your goal of 15k. I didn’t think you’d get to 10k or have more then a 100 donors. I have done the phone bank thing before too and thought it sucked as well. It wasn’t for any candidates it was for Easter Seals. They had a gimmick that the phone bank was a lock up. They had a police car pick you up and give a ride. The donations you got was the bail. They also had a limo take you back home. The next year I just sent in a check.
Nick
Royston: From here:
When you boil it all down, in determining the Democratic Party‘s presidential nominee, only one vote really matters. The 50-something conservative registered Democrat who‘s not independent but not a part of the base, and skipped college so they can go straight into teaching rather than become a casino worker, who votes on domestic issues but not in the primary or caucus and in a big state that doesn‘t border Illinois, that has elected female governors and members of Congress, but didn‘t vote Republican in 2004, won‘t vote Republican in 2008, and didn‘t vote for Jesse Jackson in 1984 and 1988 during an all day vote except between the hours of 7:00 and 7:15 p.m. Oh, they don‘t object their vote being overruled by superdelegates.
Vishnu
OTOH, being on the wrong side of Olbermann would make me very uncomfortable.
I don’t know what this means. Do you somehow think Olbermann is a liberal, or even a Democrat?
