How Did I Miss This?

The moment of Zen at the end of the Daily Show was a clip of Chris Matthews talking to Bob Casey, and he stated that “Hillary Clinton is the Al Sharpton of white people.”

WTF does that mean? Does that make Al Sharpton the Hillary Clinton of black people? Seriously- wtf is he talking about?

** Update ***

Colbert just described the movie Recount as the Democrat’s version of the Titanic, only in this version the Supreme Court names the iceberg President. I lol’d.

Insofar as anything Matthews says can have ‘meaning’, I think he intends to use Hillary Clinton as a blunt object distraction whenever feminists / Democrats / humans complain about the latest Republican/Media Village Idiot shenanigans.

“You think Cheney shooting Dubya in the face during a Rose Garden press conference is bad for the Republicans? Well, how about when Hillary Clinton refused to sufficiently denounce the rumor that incoming President Obama might actually be a MUSLIM?!?”

Matthews spent too much of his time as an altar boy hanging around the priest all the other kids knew to avoid. Women in general scare him, but strong women in particular bring out a very weird side of what passes for his personality.

He was making the observation (his own, I assume) that at the rate that Hillary kept saying “white”, that she was starting to sound like Rev. Al and his “black” spiel. His words were to the effect:

‘If Hillary keeps saying ‘white’ people, she is going to be known as the Al Sharpton of white people.’

Actually, I thought it was pretty funny when I heard it. With ol’ Al, everything is race, race, race, and so it seems it is becoming so for Hillary.

Rev. Al, the defender of the poor black people. Hillary, the defender of poor white people. Two peas in two different pods in two different gardens. What a match made in heaven!

Rabid Hillary supporters are melting down over the imminent loss for their candidate, and the right is melting down over their losses. Both sides are pointing fingers everywhere but at themselves. Both sides are in denial and foaming at the mouth, even attacking each other over any slight, however imagined it is.

I have to admit that I am enjoying myself tonight. After all of the fighting and crap in this primary, it is nice to feel that I can sit back and watch the implosions, imagining that I am getting it in THX surround sound.

Sometimes, life can be pretty damn good. I better enjoy it for now because I know that the real fight is coming up soon. There will be little rest for any Obama supporter when that fires up.

But it sure is nice tonight. I am on my laptop in the garage, the garage door open and a fan is running, the sky is clear tonight and the ocean is quiet, it is in the high 70’s still…

and the crazies are in full meltdown and Obama is winning the primary. Who can ask for more?

Time for a good toke and then head upstairs for a root beer float (made with real ice cream and root beer made with cane sugar, no HFCS!) to sip on while perusing the online devastation and destruction.

The wife is still up (day off tomorrow) and she was wondering the same thing…lol! I am still in the garage, the fan is still going with the door open, and it is still 75 outside. Nice warm breezes and the town is quiet. From the balcony, the ocean looks like glass and you can see a few ships lights off in the distance.

We decided to take off on the bike tomorrow and head down into California, maybe head to Eureka and have lunch at the harbor. Either way, it is supposed to be the same weather tomorrow, which means I get to take all of the liners out of our motorcycle gear (finally!).

Summer is on the way, global warming and all. NOAA is saying that we will have a heat wave inland for the next few days. It will be foggy here if that happens.

Hot inland = foggy in Brookings

Hot in Brookings = generally crappy weather inland

But we are on a sort of edge here in that we face south, so it can be socked in fog here and clear two miles north or south of town. Or the exact reverse. When we had the ‘Biscuit’ fires north and inland a few years ago, it got smoky here in the day, and the cool night air pushed the smoke northward until it warmed up the next day.

At least we got a break from six weeks of smoke, but only at night…lol

I have some pics from the trip to Spokane to put up on my PhotoBucket account, and we are taking the camera with us tomorrow too. The coast is a great place to be if you like to take pics, which I do (still an old school 35mm SLR nut, but like digital photography too).

One thing I really like about Oregon is the diversity of the weather, and the fact that I get to wear shorts just about year round and I never have to shovel snow. Ah, the good life…lol!

While it has been peaceful at BJ tonight, the Hillary and right wing blogs are in full meltdown. I just have to enjoy this while I can, so back to the fun!

    :)

to paraphrase Gary Farber, the Clintonites are in the bargaining stage. look at them trying to make the case for Hillary as VP: she’s the only one who can “heal” the wounds; she brings X,Y and Z to the ticket; she’s this and that, etc..

they spent 5 months in the denial stage (“she’s gonna win!!”); just a few days in the anger stage (“GANG RAPE!!!”); and now they’re trying to find a way to make sense of it.

expect them to soon enter the depression stage, where they’ll talk about how pointless it all is, and how they’ll never support anyone else again, how they’ll need to take some time off from blogging, etc..

    To which I responded:

You mean end the war that Hillary voted to start?
    Really?

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS! FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!!

    And Indiex responded with:

Voted to start? I missed that vote. How did Barry vote or was he still in Pony League? Oh wait! Now I remember. You’re talking about the vote that he stated in 2004 that he wasn’t sure how he would have voted if he had actually been a decision maker back then. And he’s consistently voted the money to keep it going.

Yeah. We know where Barry stands. Both Ways Barry.

Since I have been hanging out at the Hillary/NoQuarter sewage treatment plants (that are broken), I am well aware of the meme they are pushing regarding that Sinclair fruitcake, the gay choir director who was killed and how Obama is supposed to be a drug abusing bisexual. I have read their comments where they make the same snide “Both Ways Barry” and “The Dirty Down Low” bullshit comments.

    So I responded with:

With your bi-sexual implication about Obama, I know that I can dismiss you as a sorry-assed inconsequential thumb sucking Clintonista of the worst order who probably hangs out at Hillaryis44 and/or NoQuarter. You are not a Democrat, you are ten pounds of crap in a five pound bag. You are a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You are the enemy.

Here’s what mystifies me about the Clinton hard-liners.

As near as I can tell, the only thing that consistently motivates all politicians, of any party, in any year, is the prospect of winning elections.

And one of the things many of them admire about Mrs. Clinton is that she’s apparently ready to do damn near anything to win.

Yet, all over the country, I am told, Democratic politicians, knowing what it takes to win — nominating Mrs Clinton (this is supposed to be self-evident), are taking calculated steps to deliberately not win an election — to wit, not nominating Mrs. Clinton.

So those politicians must be acting in such a way to reach some more important goal.

Here’s what mystifies me. What’s in it for them? Where’s the patronage payoff from a losing presidential campaign? How does having a defeated presidential candidate come to your district help you in fundraising for the next cycle?

What would that more important goal be?

  48. 48.

    Conservatively Liberal

    May 15, 2008 at 7:47 am

So those politicians must be acting in such a way to reach some more important goal.

    …

What would that more important goal be?

Let Hillary run loose long enough and she (with the help(?) of her supporters) will destroy her candidacy all on her own, leaving them the easy task of choosing Obama.

Hillary has been her own worst enemy, and her more rabid supporters are not helping her one bit. The party can see that she can not manage her message, her supporters, her campaign or her finances. She has been one disaster after another, with brief periods of calm in between, and she shows no signs of changing that any time soon.

In other words, Hillary (and Bill) are history, and Obama is making history. Enjoy the ride. :)

But if you are saying that they are giving up a win in the fall by not choosing Hillary, then I want some of whatever you are smoking.

A week old tuna sandwich will beat McCain this fall.

as a committed atheist (most of the time, unless i want something really bad), i don’t have that much of a problem with Obama using his religiosity (?) to “sell” himself to voters. its part of who he is, clearly.

now, if a President Obama started rejecting/pushing initiatives because of his faith (i.e. Bush’s No Stem Cell garbage) that would be more troubling.

but if they’ve determined large chunks of the electorate cares deeply about whether Obama is religious, i don’t have a huge problem with them talking directly to those voters on those terms.

Despite my dislike of public religiosity, I am not as bothered by it from Obama probably because he speaks of it in personal terms and doesn’t exclude anyone who doesn’t believe as he does. Nor does he proselytize and throw it in anyones face like the fundies and evangelicals. He also respects the seperation of church and state and while morals may guide him he doesn’t make decisions based on the bible or what some crack-pot at a mega-church says.

Sounds like Matthews is now the Al Campanis of establishment media.

Well, he’s certainly got the “necessities”…

They should change the name of his show to, “Have Yap, Will Babble”.

as a committed atheist (most of the time, unless i want something really bad), i don’t have that much of a problem with Obama using his religiosity (?) to “sell” himself to voters. its part of who he is, clearly.

Amen, and I’m especially comfortable with Obama’s use of his religion because of the kind of denomination he worships with/in.

The United Church of Christ is a truly liberal denomination, welcoming all, includes gays, lesbians, and people of all races. The one redeeming factor about the Wright affair was that I found out just how great a church Obama attends.

I, too, have invoked the deity (although mostly it’s the Flying Spaghetti Monster) when I really want something. But there are some instances when the presence of god seems almost a certainty to me, such as when I’m listening (as I am at this moment) to some particularly spectacular piece of music, like Ottorino Respighi’s “the Pines of Rome/The Fountains of Rome,” performed by my hometown orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, in 1954.

If god does exist, I know at least one place he visited in 1954. Orchestra Hall, in the mixing room below the stage.
    Nice work, big guy.

I know at least one place he visited in 1954. Orchestra Hall,

    Q. What’s the difference between God and the music director of the Chicago Symphony?

    A. God doesn’t think he’s the music director of the Chicago Symphony.

nice post, mrmobi. i’m pretty sure i can hear God in there somewhere during Dylan’s Blood on The Tracks album.

and you know, even though i’m not a religious man, i want one as president.

eventually every president has to deal with some horrible tragedy (natural disaster, school shooting, etc) and since a vast majority of this country IS religious, i think its important to have a president be able to comfort these people in terms that speak to them. so i don’t have any issues with Obama’s faith.

of course, when the cross is used as a bludgeon and/or crowbar, then i get mightily pissed.

1/20/09 can’t get here fast enough.
