Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Bark louder, little dog.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

So many bastards, so little time.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

When we show up, we win.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Republicans in disarray!

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Petty moves from a petty man.

That Charles Osgood sure gets around for an old guy- today he was broadcasting from Berlin.

In all seriousness, I thought the story about Adi Dassler was fascinating.

Birdzilla — TV news is awful, I grant you that. But CBS Sunday Morning is not your usual news show. It’s more of a magazine show & it’s a-typically fantastic. Very interesting segments — and usually at least one that tugs at the heartstrings just a bit. Then every show ends with a long “moment-of-zen”-like few minutes of natural beauty (w/ natural sounds). A great way to start Sunday a.m. Anyway, even media haters can love this show. It’s just a relaxed, interesting load of fun. Highly recommended.

Over at Common Dreams is a very good essay by Bill Moyers.
It’s worth the read as it speaks to the issue you present.

I watch this show every week. There’s always something amusing and interesting. And it’s the only TV show I know that closes with quiet nature film.

Jesus, there are a bunch of stupid motherfuckers over there. I checked out the link and some of the comments and I’m just shocked people this catty and incapble of critical thinking are Democrats. I think most of these folks are lost to us. If McCain is savvy, he’ll choose a female VP candidate. With that move he can peel a bunch of these fake Democrats away from us.

JSF: Any women that are well positioned to be nominated as McCain’s VP? I think you are right that if he can choose a women without it looking totally ridiculous, it would be a big deal, but I can’t come up with any serious names that would fit.

Condoleezza Rice is not an option.

Meanwhile, the battle for hearts and minds goes on

BAGHDAD – An American soldier used a Quran, the Islamic holy book, for target practice in a predominantly Sunni area west of Baghdad, prompting an apology from the U.S. military, a spokesman said Sunday.

This stupid, stupid boy just killed a few more of his comrades.

The military confirmed the details in an e-mailed response to a query.

“I come before you here seeking your forgiveness,” Maj. Gen. Jeffery Hammond was quoted as saying. “In the most humble manner I look in your eyes today and I say please forgive me and my soldiers.”

That indicates how serious they have to play this. The words are formulaic in making a formal apology; the tribal sheiks are bound by honor to accept it.

Elizabeth Dole is too old. A little older than McCain.
Katherine Harris I would think is too tainted even for Republicans; do the Republicans really want to revisit Florida in November of 2000?
Susan Collins seems to be on the verge of being ousted by her constituents in Maine for being too much of a Bush water-carrier (and for campaigning on her perfect attendance record rather than actual policy accomplishment).

Nope. She’s being targeted for governorship of Texas.

Condi would be interesting, if only to keep the Dems’ overt racism on display for another six months. But she was out of her league the last few years, and she would be out of her league as a veep candi, too.

TalkLeft does not support voting for McCain — both Big Tent Demorat and I have said many many times we will vote for the Democratic nominee.
Hillary supporters need to remember that a vote for McCain is the last thing she’d want. She’s a Democrat and the Democratic candidate is preferable to the Republican one — from cabinet appointments to policy to federal judges.

So much Obama hatred over there, they think talking about how good McCain will be over Obama is a good thing.

    This is funny stuff!

Rome, I still say that Obama will beat Lyndon Johnson’s record for landslide victory over McCain this year.

McCain is basically one notch away from being a character in a Seinfeld episode. If he gets 35% of the popular vote I will be surprised.

    As I see it currently:

McCain gets the Hilbots and some die-hard 28%er’s who decide that heading to the polls is still an important exercise in citizenship

The hardcore evangelicals either stay home, write in Huckabee or consult their New Testament and a few of them vote for Obama!

The corporate Repubs stay home with a few of their friends holding their nose and voting for Ron Paul.

Obama gets the independent vote and the true Dem vote. :)
