Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

White supremacy is terrorism.

After roe, women are no longer free.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Where they belong. Hopkins/Syracuse will actually be a fun game. Also, I see the lacrosse mullet is still alive and well in Div. 1 lax.

Now the Pens need to show up tonight.

Speaking of contests, has anyone been to FiveThirtyEight.com today?

If you add up the electoral college votes on the current map for Obama v. McCain, you end up with a tie: 269 – 269.

For those who want to verify that map, as I did, you can play around with an interactive map at 270ToWin.com and check poll numbers at Pollster.com.

You’ll end up with the same map, though.

Kind of frightening that it’s still that close.

I’m a Flyers fan that was pleasantly surprised by the Cinderella season, but never once thought we had a prayer against Detroit.

I don’t think the Pens do either, but good luck to y’all.

Life is never going to be as easy for McSame than it has been the past two months, and he’s made zero progress in terms of taking advantage of it. He hasn’t gained any momentum, spends most of his face time undoing fuck-ups related to endorsements, questions about his health and his wife’s tax returns, and he can’t raise money to save his freaking life.

Short of Obama being caught together in bed with a live boy and a dead girl, McSame’s current numbers are his ceiling, and they’re going to plummet once Obama’s had the chance to focus his sights on him like he did re: dealing with Iran last week.

Hopkins is back where it belongs…but the Penguins? Please, that must be the ill-informed banter you advertise at the top. (Love the blog, but despite the naysayers, I do live in Hockeytown.

Whew. Obama is always so fine. Here’s his response to Hillary’s “assassination” poison (in an interview today for a Puerto Rican radio station):

“I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make and I think that is what happened here. Senator Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it and I will take her at her word on that.”

After all the times she leaped all over and amplified even a slight slip on his part (see “bitter”), he could certainly have gotten some payback going. But he didn’t. It feels great to know that I’m voting for a guy who is truly does call out the best in us.

Yes, though it struck me more as puzzling. Then I remember that as a political blog junkie I’ve been watching the election much more closely than the general public has, and thinking about these things more, and it’s going to take awhile for the public to get interested. Right now I’d guess they’re mostly just coasting.

I think Dr. Bloor is right that McSame has nowhere to go but down.

Contrast that reaction with Clinton’s reaction to Obama’s “bitter” gaffe.

    ‘Nuff said.

Bummer for the Wahoo nation, we lost in double OT to Syracuse. Can’t believe Duke lost given that the extra year of eligibility stacked this year’s team…

And my alma mater was kicking ass … Of course, they’re still dicks … 25 years later … But they won …

Was that video for real? Did Kobe Bryant really risk breaking some bones to jump over a pool full of snakes? Jeez, what an insane world we live in.

    I jump like a turtle.

I’m 6’4″, and struggled to dunk a basketball when I played 30+ years ago. These players nowadays are playing at least 12″ higher; it’s truly amazing. Back in the day, a 6’10” player was a clumsy dude who stumbled up and down the court. Now, you have the likes of Kevin Garnett, whose mobility is astounding.

OK, I’m a dumbass, or maybe I just need to get out more. Apparently KB has done several of these “jumping over” videos, and they’re fake. Damn….. it sure looks real.
