Question: will this displace the Cowboys superbowl as Pittsburgh’s most embarrassing sports memory? Or will we have to reach back to Francisco Cabrera?
Will the Pens get a shot on goal before halftime? Yikes!
There’s a halftime in hockey?

Alas it is a school night, only a martini. Glad to see it’s not effecting the score so far. Pistons are looking better tonight so far up 19 to 10 with a 1:23 in, I believe, the quarter. Messier still looks alien like. OOh power play to start the 2nd period, excellent!
Off the subject but still on sports anyone see the 500 yesterday? Someone on TPM noted that Danica Patrick got booted out of the race and wanted to kick someone’s a$$ but still congratulated Scott Dixon and didn’t try to claim she won the race because she had the most fans and the prettiest car. LOL

I saw that and it was hillarious. There was Danica, all 5’2 of her stomping toward Dixon jerking her gloves off with these huge security guards gathering to stop her (I guess they figured it’d take 3 or 4 of’ em to handle her). She’s a dynamo without peer.

Actually nightjar, it was Ryan Briscoe’s pit she was heading to. (He was the one who ran into her, not Dixon). However, it was still great watching her stomp down pit lane ready to kick a$$ and take names. Moreover, she didn’t chose to whine about her misfortune in the media or accuse Briscoe of being sexist. Sorry Hillary, Danica’s a far better role model for my daughter

I love the Red Wings! As a child, my parents would be able to get the 3rd period from CBC and we got to watch the Wings play. I recall Sawchuk in goal! Ozzie is great! Obama is too! 26 – 14 shots in favor of Wings! Thank goodness for CBC right now, because we don’t get GD VS on our cable.

In the Western conference final, I was really torn, as the Stars and Wings are two of my least favourite teams in the NHL.
One thing I was not torn about, though, was seeing Ron Wilson getting his ass booted out of San Jose.

OK, I’m officially worried at this point.

Detroit is a wonderful team! I am grateful for their fantastic play! Go Wings! Go Obama too! Michigan deserves a victory and a Stanley Cup with all the crazy voting goofy rules this primary season we have endured. The Pistons deserve a victory too in order to make a run for the Larry O’Brien trophy (mind you, named after a Democrat!!). Go Wings for the Lord Stanley Cup! Michigan needs all the victories possible since our votes don’t really count!

Great game, but the class level could be higher. Ozgood’s dive was as bad a soccer. But the award goes to the Pens for making a point of serially punching a guy in the head who just came off 6 games out for a concussion.

Not to interrupt the hockey fever but I came across a telling pearl of wingnut musing from none other than the Assrocket of Powerlie.
What was really offensive about Obama’s New Mexico appearance, however, was what followed his very brief, but generally appropriate, tribute to America’s war dead. He continued with a town hall-style question and answer period that cast veterans in the only role with which the Democrats are comfortable–victims–and sought to politicize the holiday. A few excerpts:
OBAMA: We’re going to have hundreds of thousands of new veterans coming in, many of them who suffer post-traumatic stress disorder. They are not being diagnosed quickly enough, they’re not getting the services that they need quickly enough.
And, sadly, the group of veterans that are probably being most neglected in this area are women veterans. We’ve got to do a better job of creating facilities…
So by making the proposal that America should take better care of it’s veterans, Obama, the weanie liberal, is casting veterans as “victims”. How do these shitasses sleep at night?

Ya know, I was just rooting for the Wings to win, but after watching the cheap shots to the head a couple Penguins have given Franzen, I’d now like to see the Penguins get their asses handed to them.
The new suggestion for resolving the situation in Michigan “fairly” is to seat the Hillary delegates as-is, then split the uncommitted delegates between Obama and Hillary (rounding in favor of Hillary of course). In other words, pretend that Hillary got 78% of the vote in Michigan by assuming that half the people that specifically showed up to vote for “none-of-the-above” really meant to vote for her.
21.

Total destruction. I can’t wait until Franzen scores again to answer those cheap shots.
Every Wing looks like he wants to score on the Pens. Pittsburgh is done. Detroit wants the Cup, and they won’t be denied.

No, no, the wings will spot them one so they can win it in Detroit.
Not a thing to do with hockey, but the Sonics owner intentionally donated money to anti gay groups hoping it would force the city to disown him.
The first e-mail came early last year, after controversy erupted in Seattle over large political contributions made in 2004 by McClendon and Ward to an anti-gay marriage political committee. News of the pair’s political leanings didn’t sit well in the Democrat-controlled Washington Legislature, which was then considering whether to fund the Sonics’ Renton arena proposal.
Jim Roth, an openly gay politician in Oklahoma, offered to contact Seattle media to defend McClendon against accusations of being anti-gay.
McClendon encouraged that effort, but told Roth in an e-mail: “The reality is it just improves OKC’s chances of getting them [the Sonics] here year after next.”
Roth responded: “Yes, and then we all win.”
Asked about that exchange, McClendon said he had been discouraged by “personal character attacks on me” and didn’t think that Roth’s efforts would make a difference.
The first Cup Final that the Edmonton Oilers took part in, that young and awesomely team had just been defated in four straight (this after obliterating their previous three opponents) and were leaving the stadium (Wayne Gretzky’s description):
“Kevin [Lowe] and I loaded up our troubles and our junk and made our way to the bus. We both knew we were going to have to walk by the Islander locker room and we were dreading it: having to see all the happy faces, the champagne shampoos, the girfriend’s kisses, the whole scene we wanted so much.
“But as we walked by, we didn’t see any of that. The girlfriends and coaches and the staff people were living it up, but the players weren’t. Potvin was getting stuff rubed on his shoulder. Guys were limping around with black eyes and bloody mouths. It looked more like a morgue than a champion’s locker room. And here we were perfectly fine and healthy.
“That’s when Kevin said ‘That’s how you win championships.'”
If the Penguins can learn from this series, their future looks bright. We’ll see how contracts go in two years…

Only if you don’t consider baseball (the Tigers are 21-30 and last in the AL Central) or football (the Lions went 7-9 last year and 3-13 in 2006) to be sports ;-)
I’d feel bad for John if he hadn’t ignored the Penguins until right before they reached the Stanley Cup Finals. Some of us have to live and die (mostly die) with a team like the L.A. Kings all season long.

John: You’re just re-living my nightmare from last year. Your team have a lot of offence, mostly concentrated in the front line? So did mine! Your team got to the finals by beating up on lesser Eastern Conference talent? So did mine! Your team have lots of snipers, but little toughness? So did mine! Your team go up against a Western conference team that had scoring power throughout it’s lines, tough D, and a concrete wall of a goalie? So did…well, you get the point.
I’ll drink one for you guys down Pittsburgh way tonight. Hell, you guys did us a favour putting us out of our misery in the first round. Thanks for that.
I didn’t ignore them. I probably only caught 20 games this year, but that is 20 times the Pirates games I will watch.
