Yea. They do look more confident. Good contact and skating tonight from your boys. Hell they’ve looked like men the other night and tonight seems to be going OK. They’ve got a lot of talent but the Wings got inside their heads the first two games.

Even though we lost game three. I still feel good. Still out shot, hit, won more face offs. etc. Game 4 is shaping up to be a doozy. hopefully the wings can pull it off as a givt to my 8 day old son.

SGNM: Congrats on the youngun. I’ll lift a pint in his honor. Cheers!

Detroit Red Wings: at least they’re not Dallas.

John,
Your Pens do look better at home.
Hard though, when you spot the Wings 2 games.
Kevin
Oh well, too bad Pens..

As a transplanted Canadian, I have to say that NBC may have assembled one of the worst hockey broadcast ‘teams’ that I have seen. Tonight’s made the some of the Versus games look comparatively great. Tough game to lose for the Pens – they don’t look like a team that will beat Detroit 3 games in a row.

The story of this series through four games is that, when Pittsburgh can get the line matchups they want, it’s a very close game. When it’s the Red Wings getting the matchups, it’s a blowout.
It’s also amusing watching every single commentator that comments on the Conn Smythe, assuming Detroit wins one more game, gets it wrong. The best player in these playoffs, and it isn’t particularly close, is the same guy who was the best player in the playoffs in 1997, the best player in the playoffs in 1998, and the best player in the playoffs in 2002. James Mirtle called Nick Lidstrom the most boring superstar in all of sports, which is a very apt description. He should be on the cusp of winning his fourth Conn Smythe, but awards are as much about flash as substance. Awarding it to Lidstrom every time the Red Wings win would be boring, and, so, it’s fitting that Lidstrom doesn’t win it.
That he has never won a Hart Trophy is an indictment of the voters. You’re watching the third best defensemen of all time, behind Orr and Fetisov; he has now moved ahead of Doug Harvey. I’d tell you to enjoy it, but he’s boring.

I’d watch this if it were on a real network. After all, I do have essays to grade. Fucking summer school.

What the hell people? Are you all still shagged out from the rules committee meeting? Only seven comments during a close game?
That being said, for those of you without Versus in Pittsburgh, or anywhere not on the northern border, cbcsports.ca will be streaming game five. I haven’t tried it, it might not work cross-border, but I thought I’d put it out there.
bad dad
Of course, it might be on NBC. D’oh!
bad dad
It’s on NBC. You still might want to try the CBC for real commentary and Don Cherry, though.

Go Wings! Just one more game to the Stanley Cup for Detroit!
J. Michael Neal
I think that a Stanley Cup is worth the other half of those delegates.
mts771
Don Cherry is a goof. He’s extremely xenophobic towards Americans and Europeans.

I was at a family deal so I only got to watch the third beriod, but… Um, skating 5 on 3 and all they can manage is a couple of shots from the perimeter? And that winning goal was a pure gift. Are these two teams in the same league?
J. Michael Neal
I disagree that the winning goal was a gift. It was the product of a great play by Brad Stuart (who has turned out to be a lot more valuable than I thought he’d be) to keep the puck in the zone, then a great play by Darren Helm to get to the loose puck and shield it with his body, a nice pass from Helm to Hudler, and then a really good snap backhand high to the glove side by Hudler. Fleury never had a chance.
It wasn’t any more of a gift than was Crosby’s first goal on Wednesday. When you have skilled players working very hard, it isn’t a coincidence when they get “lucky” breaks.

Gritted one out on the road! Can’t wait to see the finale at home! Excellent stuff, this.

yah but this is in Pittsburgh, I mean they got whacked in Detroit, and they’re barely holding on at home.
Bill H
Your point is well taken. It was a couple of great offensive plays, and that shot was a work of art.
I just felt sorry for Fleury, who got no help at all. That’s what I meant by the “gift” part. The defensemen were standing there looking utterly lost. So while it was good offense, it was really bad defense too.

had to watch this game after I got home from my gig, what a great game .. wonder what’s happened to Malkin, but no matter, Pens were game but…… in the song stylings of one Dandy Don Meredith from ancient Monday Night Football fame….. ” Turn out the lights, the party’s over”
