Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

It’s a doggy dog world.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Reconciliation

FacebookTweetEmail

Dear Big Tent Democrat and Larry Johnson’s fringe commentariat,

From my heart to yours.

I’m sick to death of people acting like the election is a validation of their own ego. A Democrat is going to win this year one way or the other. If that isn’t enough then fine, take your ball and go home.

Open thread.

***Update***

By the way, Hillary will concede the race tonight, or if not tonight then very soon. She doesn’t want to blow up the party by throwing a massive fit at the convention. At the same time she can’t telegraph that she’s giving up or nobody will give her any more money or show up to vote for her today. The campaign has gone leaky (internal divisions that date to the Penn era must be through the roof right now) so the press already knows the game plan, but due to point 2 the campaign has to go through the motions of denying them. It’s all over but the noise.

Seriously, I don’t think there’s ever been any genuinely humble people in politics (and that includes the reportage). It’s all about the ego, regardless of party, regardless of job. It’s all about the *ME* and what *I* bring to the table with my *WIN* and *AWESOMENESS*.

“She doesn’t want to blow up the party by throwing a massive fit at the convention.”

If the convention were the end of June or beginning of July, I have no doubt that Hill and Bill would roll the dice on a floor fight. But it’s not until August and they’ve pissed off too many party insiders to hold out until then.

These have been historic candidacies. They have changed the Democrats and will change the Republicans. A year ago I was unsure which I would vote for — probably only decided around Christmas. I’m glad Obama won, but take no joy in HRCs loss. A bigger election is still to be won and the Augean stables await the victor.

That video is so funny. They aren’t even trying to fake it. I don’t think the guitars have wires. There is no piano player on stage, no organ on stage, and no background choir on stage.

The accoustic guitar has no wire, no pick up, and no microphone.

Poor Charlie has to keep drumming, otherwise it will look really bad. Mick does a good job faking it too, but otherwise, they are just kind of strumming along. Nobody even faked the guitar leads.

All yesterday there were “I’m leaving the Hillary camp” diaries on TGOS and several of them put forth the idea that they wanted Hillary for VP (I know this is not news that Hillary might have a slot (or not!) at VP, but that her supporters are pushing it so hard is) and now Hillary has reportedly admitted she’d be open to the idea. Was there a concerted effort to float that idea? Obama supporters for the most part think it’s a terrible idea.

I do not want that nasty and vain woman on the ticket. I won’t vote for it.

By the way, Hillary will concede the race tonight, or if not tonight then very soon.

Even if she does, it makes a big difference how she does it. Booman wrote:

I’m willing to be reconciled, but I am not willing to stop fighting until I see a white flag and an acknowledgment that Barack Obama won this contest fair and square and according to the rules. When I see Hillary Clinton stand up and admit that she lost and that Obama’s victory is 100% legitimate, then I will stop fighting back. I hope to see it soon. And then, I hope, the Clinton supporters in the Blogosphere will stop peddling in hate and unsubstantiated innuendo. We all understand hardball tactics, even if we don’t always respect them. But this contest is coming to a close. And anyone that keeps up the fight against Obama after today is working for McCain. And that includes Hillary Clinton.

    You are all left out
Out of there without a doubt
cause baby, baby, baby, youre out of time

You thought you were a clever girl
    Giving up your social whirl
But you cant come back and be the first in line, oh no
    Youre obsolete my baby
    My poor old-fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby youre out of time

Well, baby, baby, baby, youre out of time

Thanks for posting that YouTube, Tim. I LOVE that song, and consider it a bit of a personal anthem. I put it on whenever I’m in danger of wallowing in self-pity. Hope the Clintonistas do the same.

I’m really torn over whether I would want Clinton on the ticket as VP. A few months ago, I would have been delighted. I still think she would do an excellent job in theory, but she’s pissed off so many people and burned so many bridges I’m not sure she could pull it off in reality. It would help with party unity, but it would also help unify the opposition. Would she attract more voters than she would alienate?

…and meanwhile at the Flowbee site, they’ve found a picture of Michelle with Farakkan’s wife. There’s breathless speculation over whether THIS could be the meeting….

Reading their comments makes me sad, b/c it just shows how completely they’ve left the rails. They’re currently mulling a conspiracy theory on the AP for trying to discourage voters from voting by printing the “Obama’s got it wrapped” story.

Rumor has it, that she wanted the POTUS slot..

How did that work out for ya, Hil?

Oh, and now the official kick off on betting when the Clinton’s will divorce.

My bet: Bill will file sometime around January 2009. Just in case, there is a chance that ole Hillary can still pull it off and gain the nomination somehow….yanno November IS 5 months away, and well “anything can happen”….

Bill was hoping he’d become FIRST HUSBAND, in the white house, reclaiming his legacy, and what was rightly owed to his wife, after standing by him all these years…well he has seen those 3rd term dreams be sqaushed. Hillary is no use to him anymore, as she won’t be able to run again until 2016, and by that time, there will be another democrat woman, MORE qualified, that didnt have to ride on her husbands coat-tails to the White House…but instead earned it all by herself. Bill sees it now as he held up his agreement in helping Hillary to become POTUS, and unfortunately that didn’t work out. He’s done.

Now this: She’d be willing to take the VP spot. By putting this out front page on CNN and every other major mainstream news site it’s like she’s saying “give me what I want or I’m going to make you publicly refuse me”…I feel sort of paranoid to think so, but is this her attempt to use whatever leverage she may have left? Namely, her supporters?

It obviously aint’ gonna happen, but it would be the best thing ever if HRC came on stage to that for her concession speech and gave a riproaring endorsement of Obama. Unfortunately, that would be too funny and classy at the same time to ever happen.

She didn’t get a single response. Heartless bastards. Ready to face any consequences in order to be vindicative… Such is the character of those who are fixated on a single candidate rather than the country. I’m not sure McCain is going to support any of their women’s issues.

Haha. Understatement of the day. McCain cares about one issue: war. The ones we have, and the shiny new ones he dreams about just over the horizon.

Everything else he would likely put as much thought and hard work into as Bush (who appointed a veterinarian to be federal director of women’s health).

feel sort of paranoid to think so, but is this her attempt to use whatever leverage she may have left? Namely, her supporters?

As Rachel Maddow just stated on MSNBC, she has no leverage after today. :)

What of those people who are still voting in primaries today who hear she’s willing to be VP, will they possibly change their vote on account of this news?

Here’s your party unity: mydd is reporting that the Clinton campaign is playing Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” and getting the crowd into a lather. Sounds like an opponent I’d want for VP!
