This stinks:
The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed that former player and one of the original members of the Steel Curtain, Dwight White, has died. He was 58.
White, a former defensive end, was hospitalized in intensive care last month due to complications from back surgery.
Officials say White originally went home after the surgery, but he had to be taken back to the hospital.
“Dwight White was one of the greatest players to ever wear a Steelers uniform,” says Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney, in a statement. “He was a key member of the Steel Curtain defense and a member of the greatest defensive line in NFL history. He played with a relentlessness that led us to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s.
Thanks.

Man, that’s a shame. RIP to one of the greats.

That sucks balls. Only 58 – jeez. The D-line was my favorite subset, if you will, of the Steelers back then. I’m pretty sure they played a 4-3, and I’m brain-farting on who the 4th lineman was w/ Dwight, Mean Joe and L.C…

I don’t know any more specifics about his demise. But when you think about what years in the NFL do to a human body, I doubt many of these guys have a nice retirmement. I love the game, but man, it takes a toll on the players.
Wonder how many of them can actually walk at age 60.

Dwight White, LC Greenwood, mean Joe and of course, the spaceman himself, Ernie Holmes, who claimed that he attended college on Mars IIRC.
What a defense, what a player White was, backed up by Lambert, Ham and the guy who inspired me to wear No. 34 in every sport, Andy Russell.
Hell, don’t forget Tony Dungy was also a part of the defense a little later on, and there was always Mel Blount.
Fuck I hate the Steelers.

Dwight smoked 2-3 Packs of cigarettes a day from the age of 16 on… don’t be too quick to blame NFL this time..
