Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

How stupid are these people?

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

My mother is a Georgia grad, so everyone in my family knows and (is forced to) loves UGA. Sadly, Uga VI died this weekend.

RIP, Uga.

Was that the same Uga that was in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil or was this a successor? Very sad news for the Seilers, anyway, and to the U of Georgia extended family as a whole.

I really feel a lot worse about Uga’s passing than I would about most people’s.

Poor thing. Assuredly, it led a happy life filled with attention, plentiful pulled pork, and adoring coeds.

UGA VI? What kind of a stupid name is that? Sounds like Kirk should be starting a log entry from there.

Do they have another UGA-in-waiting? I understood that UGA was kind of like Lassie – there’d always be one.

Seriously, though, it’s a real shame to see UGA lose one of its finest minds at such a young age.

So, just wondering, any famous rivalry pranks involving UGA?

Such as stealing the Navy goat ?

I’m pretty sure that Uga was painted white and gold at some point.

I’m also tempted to start a drive to donate cartons of Marlboros and cases of Michelob to the UGA scholarship fund in Uga’s memory…

Yeah, I heard that they’re keeping him around for a week so that the bio department can perform their first dissection.

    Bonus joke:

Did you hear that UGA finally cancelled their rocketry program?

It never got off the ground…

My condolences to all Georgia fans and particularly to Uga’s caretakers and friends on this sad day. My wife’s Alma Mater’s team was dealt a similarly sad (not to mention tragically Oedipal) blow earlier this year. It has been an unkind year for the mascots of southeastern teams.

Time to bring out the joke about UGA.

Two guys at an Alabama-Georgia game. Out comes UGA, gorgeous bulldog. And right there on the 40 yard line, he begins to lick himself… where dogs are sometimes prone to lick themselves.

One guys elbows the other and says, “Heh. Man, I wish I could do that!”

Other guy says, “Man, that dog would bite you.”

The other USC (SoCal) had “George Tirebiter” and on at least on one occassion, one of the namesakes was killed while chasing a car.

Lucky are the more pampered mascots.

Just out of curiosity… why did Georgia copy the Green Bay Packer logo?

Green Bay adopted a G logo similar to the one used today in 1961 while Georgia adopted theirs, designed by Vince Dooley and identical to the one used today, in 1964. They were similar enough that Georgia went ahead and got permission from the Packers to use it. Since then, however, Green Bay has redesigned their logo to be pretty much identical to Georgia’s. Thus Georgia does hold some rights to the logo and were not forced to remove it like Grambling State – which adopted the logo in the 1980s – was in 2005.

As for Uga, his death was the front page headline in my local paper. I hate the south sometimes. I’d still be pissed if Smokey’s death was the front page headline, but at least he’s the mascot for MY STATE!

You know how to get a Georgia co-ed into your dorm room?

    Grease her hips.

Coming from a Georgia fan, she was probably counting her remaining teeth.

Warren Terra, they don’t call it good old fashioned hate for nothing. If you can’t hate on toothless, ignorant, Southern nationalist/apologists who use a Union hymn as a fight song, who can you hate on?

that’s right, me and my two undergraduate and additional post graduate degree, are sitting in my cushy uptown office laughing at Tech’s horrible little football team, and reliving the glory of the 31-17 spanking that the Bulldogs unleashed this year to Tech at Bobby Dodd stadium. If you will recall (and I understand if you would prefer not to, but since we are all for rubbing things in today) the game was so bad they fired Tech’s coach. Now that’s just ugly for you guys. So I understand the hostility, however that hostility is decidedly misplaced, and the disappointment you have been repressing for so long is coming out in an entirely inappropriate manner. I suggest that you find a more constructive outlet for your anger, perhaps toward your sucky football team?

    and P.S. . . . THHHHHBBBBBT! So there!
