Just a blue collar couple:
Cindy McCain recently gave a rare private interview to CNN in which she disclosed her opinions on transportation in Arizona, her home state. The McCain’s have tried to distance themselves from elitism, but apparently Mrs. McCain believes that the only way to get around is by “small private plane.”
Yeah, but what is her bowling score?
You can watch the video at the HuffPo, and CNN did not mention the private plane bit in their write-up.
Alex
I’m as much for running the bus over them as anyone, but I did hear she was talking about campaigning in Arizona, where tight schedules and long distances really did mean they needed a plane. Haven’t had time to watch the thing myself so I don’t really know.
calipygian
Holy crap, thats some chicken shit bullshit from CNN. I watched that interview and to tell you the truth, the only thing I remembered from it was the whole “the only way to get around Arizona is by private plane” thing because it was so brazenly stupid and out of touch.
That and Wolf Blitzer introducing the segment by saying something about Cindy McCain’s “need for speed” (I shit you not) because they were interviewing her at a NASCAR event or something.
I immediately thought that it was going to be a story about how Mrs. McCain stole drugs from her charity to support her habit.
But no – just a puff piece in which she proceeded to shoot herself in the foot by saying that us normal people can’t effectively get around Arizona ’cause we don’t own planes.
Bokonon
This isn’t really a gaffe … um, you see, Cindy McCain is just showing what an honest, plainspoken gal she is. Yuppers. In fact, it just reinforces how NON-ELITIST she really is!
Yeah!

Seems to me that Nan Nuthouse was on to something. All during the primaries whenever The Precious stepped in shit his campaign would instigate some fauxrage against you-know-who.
Notorious P.A.T.
Oh, that’s much better.
I bet everyone who campaigns for everything in Arizona takes a private plane, huh?

Oops, wrong thread

You mean like when someone (I don’t remember who) went through hours of video to find something that sounded inflammatory by his ex-pastor? Or when someone (their name escapes me) pointed to perfectly reasonable and accurate comments by Obama and called him an “elitist”? Or when someone (it’ll come to me eventually) said Obama was not ready to be president but John McCain was? How does that come anywhere close to “stepping in it”?
dorkboy
As a citizen of the Great State of Arizona, I want to ask my Senator…where’s my damn plane?! I need to find a job and I can’t get anywhere.
Oh, I forgot. He doesn’t like earmarks.

Well to put it in context Cindy McCain says:
“My husband was running for Senate in Arizona and in Arizona the only way to get around the state is by small private plane.”
So that’s a little open-ended as to whether she thinks the only way to get around Arizona ever is by small plane or whether the only way to get around during a campaign is to use a private plane.
To John’s point though, it’s hard to imagine Michelle Obama being given the benefit of the doubt for something that ambiguous.

I’ll say. Here is where your “thoughts” would be appreciated:

How come noiq doesn’t have an embedded link in her name anymore?

For the good citizens of AZ: Where the hell is your Senator? Do you not care that he hasn’t voted since April? Do you not care that he is a angry and vicious old man? How about the bigamy charge recently? Oh that’s right. The media doesn’t want you to know about it. They want to be fair and balanced towards McCain and the black dude.
Where the hell is your Senator?
tballou
I agree that her comment about using a plane to get around Arizona was in the context of campaigning across a very large state. However, she then went on to add as an aside that she bought a plane. I don’t know anybody that owns their own plane unless they are super rich, which of course she is.

Wow. I’ve been to Murky Coffee. They’re okay but not in a “OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS IS GREAT WAY” and definitely not worth going the 15 minutes out of my way to go there when a Starbucks is a 10 minute walk from my apartment.
That said, I thought the guy was being a little dramatic about not going back to Murky Coffee without a gas can and a match until I read the smug response by the bastard that owns the place on HIS blog.
The owner of Murky Coffee needs to go back to Remdial Capitalism 101. Guy has obviously put the Seinfield “Soup Nazi” episode on infinite loop on his tv at home.
gopher2b
I’ve been to Arizona and the only place worth going is Phoenix and you can get around the Phoenix area fine by helicopter.
calipygian
The nut of Murky Coffee’s response:
Great customer service there, bud. I ain’t going into your place without a cup, thats for sure.

Completely OT: The no votes to override Bush’s veto of the Medicare bill is a veritable parade of ass clowns.
Well… McCain is old enough for Medicare so maybe I’m not that far off.
Well at least I’m not rabbiting about Ann Malthouse.

Only demoRats can be elitists. Sometimes Republicans seem, maybe, elitist-like, but really they’re just good capitalists. If we all did capitalism better, we could be just as non-elitist and all own private planes.

I wonder if Cindy’s name is on this list
rawshark
One of our sheriffs is rounding up brown people. We seem to care a lot about that and not a lot about anything else.
You do need a plane to run for office in Az. There are only maybe five cities that matter (Tuscon, Yuma, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Kingman) and they aren’t all that close to each other. Or anything else.
Just Some Fuckhead
Cindy McCain may have more money and houses than God but it can’t be easy being married to the Anti-Christ. Putting aside all the worries about future battles with Jesus and ending the world at Armageddon, McCain is a dick and reportedly treats her like shit.
So I always feel a little sorry for her.
Tom Hilton
What Alex said. I’d love to exploit this, but it’s clear she’s not talking about ordinary transportation here. (On the other hand, as somebody pointed out, Arizona isn’t all that hard to get around in–80% of the people live within a few hours’ drive.
Wrong candidate, wrong party, wrong country, wrong year. Otherwise, you’re just fine.
dorkboy
Trollop!
Dreggas
Is the plane called the Trollop Express?
Tom Hilton
Actually, Phoenix is the one place in Arizona to be avoided at all costs*. Lots of great stuff in the rest of the state, but Phoenix is a hellhole’s hellhole.
*Unless you’re campaigning for office. Lots of people in Phoenix.

Excellent title, John.
calipygian
Its for high-speed travel across vast open spaces. I think John named it the See You In No Time.
rawshark
Assuming a modern freeway system is in place. Bad assumption. In a ‘you can pry the tax dollars from my cold dead hand’ state we don’t build freeways until way after they are absolutely nescessary. The fact that the guy trying to become one of our state senators needs a plane in order to visit any city not named Phoenix ought to set off alarm bells. It doesn’t.
Dreggas
Wonder if she lets John fly it?
dorkboy
Have you been to Yuma!
Tom Hilton
No, but I’ve got a sense of it.

Oh my god. Are you still being a whiny dead-ender? Really sad. Just go away, as you’re only embarrassing yourself more.
And to the person who asked why noiq’s name isn’t an embedded link anymore, it’s probably because noiq abandoned his/her Corrente anti-Obama hate fest blog a while back.
Still praying for that Whitey tape, noiq?
El Cid
Yeah, but Theresa Heinz-Kerry is an uppity elitist!
rawshark
Don’t we have a picture of her burning an american flag? Or am I thinking of a different democratic presidential candidate’s wife? Or all of them?
Ted
All of them. It’s a long tradition, like Christening a ship.
The Moar You Know
Obviously not, she’s still alive and the plane is in one piece.
calipygian
Win. The thread is now closed.

the funniest thing is, given your penchant for sheer idiocy it didn’t really make any difference.
Stuart Eugene Thiel
George McGovern did the same for decades. It’s what you do if you can afford it and you have to get around a big Western state.
I think you Easterners really don’t comprehend the size of Western states. You could hide most of New England in Arizona-New Mexico alone.
Herb
This is kind of a cheapshot. Watching the video, it’s pretty clear that she’s talking about campaigning -not just “getting around”- in Arizona and besides calling it the “only way to get around” is just a figure of speech.
Dreggas
Just the answer I was looking for.

Great image of regular old Cindy McCain here.
