Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans do not trust women.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

No complaints here. The economy is humming along, everyone is prospering, we won two wars, and we have two fine candidates for president.

Why has no one made a non-ideological, well-publicized evaluation of Obama’s idea about transferring US military resources from Iraq to the Afghanistan territory closest to Pakistan? I am intrigued.

Re: Edwards Love Child Obsession Thingie

The guard said he escorted Edwards, who was not a registered guest at the hotel, out of the building after 2 a.m. Edwards did not say anything while he was escorted out, said the guard, adding that at times the reporters on the scene were “rough on him,” *sticking a camera in his face* and shouting questions.

    Um, where are those pics?

    And this:

The Enquirer says it has videotape showing Hunter entering the room where she met Edwards, and shows Edwards leaving the same room. However, the Enquirer has thus far declined repeated requests by FOXNews.com to release any photographs or videotape evidence of the incident.

If the Enquirer really had something, Fox would have paid the price and we’d be seeing it 24/7. But at least they can still propagate and milk the rumor. Although, I am in agreement with most everyone here and not excepting my deep admiration and respect for Elizabeth Edwards, I could care less if Edwards had or is having an affair in the grand scheme of things.

But when the turd that is the republican party finds itself swirling down the toilet, desperate times call for desperate, if completely bizarre, measures, I guess. :)

It’s the Michelle Obama “whitey” tape redux. When this dies down the R’s will throw out some new fabrication and let the media stir that one around and around. Lather, rinse, repeat.

    I’d like to complain about:

    1) the lack of audiences at the new X-Files movie. C’mon people, you’ve already seen Dark Knight! Duchovny and Anderson need to pay the bills!

    2) The fact that everyone kept saying that the last guy before Obama to draw such large crowds in Berlin was Hitler. LIES, ALL LIES! It was HASSELHOFF! At the fall of the Berlin Wall! If you’re gonna compare Obama to a guy guilty of crimes against humanity, make sure it’s to teh guy from Knight Rider (or better yet, his evil twin Garth… you know the guy with the goatee).

    3) I still haven’t won the lotto. DAMMIT

    Fixed:

But when the turd that is the republican party finds itself swirling down the toilet, desperate times call for desperate, if completely bizarre, formerly tried & true ‘morality’ smears that no longer work because they are worn out and because the republican party has lowered the morality bar so far it has clanged onto the floor of airport restrooms.

Seems like Obama got a nice little bump in the polls after his overseas junket last week. Gallup and Rassmussen.

Next we’ll hear from the Worry Warts and Nativist Neocons that it’s the media’s bias, or dumb luck, or Obama now doing Voodoo on the ignorant masses. Can’t be people just think he’s an appealing candidate, nah, not that.

This is the United States of America. All military and foreign policy for both candidates is typically reduced to “how quickly can we blow shit up, kill somebody, and declare victory?” on the idiot conservative side, and “can we pull out, now, can we pull out, now, huh, can we, can we, when are we gonna pull out, when are we gonna pull out?” on the most idiotic pseudo-progressive side.

I agree with you, but neither you nor I are the sole intended audience for this.

The alleged incident happened Southern California. I find it somewhat interesting that there are a couple of local talk show hosts here who have been playing this up big time, complete with crocodile tears over what Elizabeth Edwards might be going through, and featuring an interview with a National Enquirer editor. Meanwhile, local media and newspapers have been going out of their way to downplay the story. The LA Times instructed its bloggers not to discuss the story (Outside The Beltway: Los Angeles Times Bans Edwards Scandal Story)

The whole thing is turning into a game of journalistic chicken. The Enquirer is being told to put up or shut up, especially before other news events start taking up media space (the Olympics, the party nominating conventions), and not dangle this shit out as potential “October Surprise” gotcha journalism. Other news bureaus are betting that there is nothing here, but will be criticized as deliberately trying to protect the Democrats if there is anything behind the rumors.

I blame Hollywood producers. If they hadn’t precipitated a writers’ strike, there would be more good entertainment out there, and less of a need for scandal mongering.

Well, here are two articles by William Pfaff, whom I generally regard as eminently sensible, on what is wrong with the whole thing. Not the moving troops out of Iraq bit, but the moving them into Afghanistan bit. I’m also pleased to note that he cites a factoid I’ve been muttering on various blogs for some time, which is that no foreigner has held Afghanistan since before the time of Alexander the Great, which is to say, never.

Why is the McCain talking point, “Obama missed ‘injured US heroes'” the most read article on BBC’s website right now? Sigh.
