Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

When we show up, we win.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

In my day, never was longer.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

I won’t bother you guys with all the stuff that I have to deal with with for my new job, but it’s a lot. No complaints though. Being busy as all get-out means that I get to spend my waking hours doing stuff that I like (TIRF-FRET FTW, bee-yotches). The downside is that I can’t even read blogs more than once every couple of days, and as Ta-Nehisi Coates points out in a post that I recommend for a wealth of reasons, a blogger that doesn’t read a ton is a weak blogger. BJ will remain John’s show until I can scare up the time to blog again on a regular basis.

Also, One Of These Days.

My job usually allows time to read, but not necessarily to blog. Add to that the fact that I share my home computer with my daughter and my blogging tends to be rather sporadic.

Since this is an open blog I will now present my one-word review of the X-Files movie. [Ahem]

    CRAP.

This concludes my one-word review of the X-Files movie.

I’ve been blogging a ton because I’ve had the time–when school starts up again in 3-4 weeks, I’ll be sweating for stuff to write about and looking for time to read, so I can relate. I can see why people who have a huge audience lean on things like going over to The Corner and seeing what stupidity issued forth that day.

Good luck with your work. TIRF is a pain, especially the setup. Do you use a homemade microscope or a commercial one?

Shopping around for the ‘mersh variety right now. I don’t have the time or the depth of optics knowledge to build one of those myself. And anyhow, people have to use it after I’m gone (it’s a lab of cell biologists, not physicists). That by itself is a solid argument for buying something that comes with a manual and tech support.

Okay, I can’t take it anymore. Not leaving a link in an open thread makes me spastic. So take a look at the bloggers of tomorrow, and weep.

What? Mere gainful employment gets in the way of blogging?

If this is catching it could be the death of the blogosphere.

Catch your breath. I look forward to more when it’s do-able from yr perspective.

    best, T.

There’s a rumor going round that McMaverick is going to pick Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota as his VP tomorrow. That’s as may be, but if he does, I’d like to be first in line with a new campaign slogan for the guv.

WOULD YOU BUY A USED BRIDGE FROM THIS MAN?

Mentally Ill man sentenced to 422 Years.

Mr. Williams’s lawyer, Arnold J. Levine, sought a lesser sentence because, he said, his client suffered from severe mental illness. He said that Mr. Williams had not spoken with him in a coherent way for a year and seemed unable to comprehend why he was in court or what he was being sentenced for.

“I don’t think he has any clue what’s going on,” Mr. Levine said after the sentencing, adding that he planned to appeal.

Shit. Maybe he really, literally didn’t see that pedestrian. Novak has brain tumour.

(And maybe he did, and his brain tumour is unrelated to that accident. And being ill now doesn’t given him a free pass on some of his more vile actions over the years. And the tumour may not even be malignant. But, still, this sucks for anyone.)
