Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

In my day, never was longer.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Great Moments in Bad Government

This post is in: Media, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?

FacebookTweetEmail

I was watching Lou Dobbs because I am waiting for the VP announcement, and heard about this funny story:

U.S. authorities are vowing to track down illegal immigrants at home and at work after only eight people volunteered for a self-deportation program.

The nearly three-week trial program for illegal immigrants who have ignored court orders to leave the country ends later Friday in five cities.

No one could have predicted self-deportation would fail.

Speaking of Lou Dobbs, aside from the fact that he has devolved into a bitter and delusional old nutball, how is he still on the air. I can barely tolerate to listen to him sucking in his dentures every other word (if it isn’t dentures, he must suffer from excessive saliva or something, although technically I guess the viewers are the ones suffering), and he can barely get through a sentence on the teleprompter anymore. I guess it is kind of a cheap shot to point out he is almost ten years younger than McCain, but I couldn’t control myself.

Back when I still had CNN, I would lunge to turn off the tv whenever Dobbs came on because I despise that vile old goat so much.

If I want to watch an old dude suck his teeth, I choose Jacques Pepin, who is the awesome to Dobbs’ shitosity.

Used to watch Dobbs every night,. Now I can’t stand the sound of his voice. He’s now a bloviating jackass and Xenophobe of the first order. He’s also a control freak who expects all the other CNN reporters to echo his nutbaggery.

He’s on in another room right now only because I’m lazy to get up and turn him off.

Can American citizens volunteer for deportation? If so, deport me to Spain, por favor.

Lou Dobbs is a tool of the highest order, but like other tools I hate – I mean, fuck rakes – Dobbs has a couple redeeming qualities. He has a nice, soothing, gravelly voice. It’s a shame he uses his one gift in the service of evil.

Wait, Dobbs still walks (and sucks his dentures) among the living? Surely this is a medical miracle. Didn’t this make his head explode already?

I used to enjoy Lou Dobbs. I can’t stand to even listen to him anymore. I do watch CNN regularly. I switch to Cartoon Network when he’s on. I really think he is embarrassing. Completely.

I can’t watch Lou Dobbs Racist Hour anymore. The stink from his fear of brown people is starting leak throught the tv screen.

Add another to the “can’t stand 2 minutes of Lou Dobbs” column. When he starts going off on illegal immigration (or tainted food) he’s got this faux outrage where he’s channeling the absolute worst of the Bill O’Reilly sound bites and tries to even exceed O’Reilly. He’s kinda like that O’Reilly-esque TV host in V for Vendetta. I can actually stand O’Reilly for longer (5 minutes sometimes)

What happened to the old “War on the Middle Class” Lou Dobbs, anyway? Really, there WAS a time when he wasn’t so out in left field and ragin’ on the browns.

I decided that he must have had some kind of mild stroke or something that altered his personality. Maybe that’s got something to do with the drooling?

Syphillis is rotting his brain. Prolly got it from a Mexican, not necessarily the one he’s married to.

Meh, houses are fine… But rich guys *always* have great car collections.

Jonnie obviously has some bucks. Let’s see your ride, old man.

Cindy McCain is the rich guy in the family so Johnny doesn’t have a car collection. But, you should see the car collection of the McCain’s poolboy. Leno would be consumed with envy.

If CNN is going to give an hour to a cranky old fucker, it might as well be Jack Cafferty.

At least he has something intelligent to say every now and then.

It’s kinda weird. The US has a pretty bad record on enforcing the time limits on work and student visas.
So, the answer to that would be better enforcement. But there is such a backlog of extension requests, renewal request, etc. etc. etc that it’s impossible to tell who is really here illegally or who is just stuck here until the US can tell them if they have to leave or not.

So instead of spending money on personnel (a flexible resource that can be scaled up or down as needed) It’s all about walls walls walls. A rigid resource that is a huge capital investment and cannot be scaled down once built.

And that’s my rant for the day.

My mother watches Lou Dobbs a lot. No idea why, since she’s black, but whatever. I just end up silently giggling, thinking to myself how much his fear-mongering resembles what used to be directed at those exotic, filthy, diseased ruffians the Irish.

Sad thing about it is that I personally don’t understand why illegals accept the arrangement they live here under in the first place. They’re being used as something one step above slaves, and if it weren’t for their willingness to work cheap they’d be deported by noon tomorrow, I’d think that’d be seen as an insult, no?

Eh, maybe it’s just desperation. All I know is I’d be inclined to stir demonstrations that asked “is picking your fruit and washing your fucking dishes all you think we’re good for?” to the types that use them. Dobbs is never going to get his strict enforcement because the result would be a bunch of rich white people going to jail, period.

How can you tell the difference?

The S.O. watches Dobbs. For the sake of the cats we have an unspoken agreement not talk about it.

You know Dobbs must have blurted to his wife sometime during sex, “Who’s your minuteman, baby!”
