Could making a really, really shitty movie be portrayed as an act of heroism. Seriously, folks, viewers of An American Carol are not out to get you because you are conservative, they just want to make sure you make something as criminally unfunny as this ever again (especially on their dime):
If I paid ten bucks to see that, I would want some revenge on David Zucker, too. And sadly for the film’s producer, he wasn’t a POW for 5 years and doesn’t have a “get-out-of-jail-free” card.
More here.

Would a Kevin Farley be like a Jim Belushi in any way?
John S.
Yes, except fatter and with less talent.

It’ll be interesting to see how the reviews come out on this once the screeninng beginn rolling.
By all accounts this should be a “well made” movie. Whatever this politics, Zucker is an accomplished flimmaker, and the stars of the movie are skilled actors. (Though all actors have had instances when they’ve “phoned it in”.)
There will be blogs on both sides of the spectrum that will root or decry the movie on purely politcal rational, but I’ll be watching to see how many hard-core film nuts dig into the plotting, scripting and presentation. (In commparison with “W” for example.)
I mean this could be a good movie, or it could be another “Expelled”.

I dunno, from an artistic standpoint, they had me at “turdhead.”
It is going to suck, and not because they are mocking a very mockable target, but because it sucks. Watch that trailer.

I think that tells us all we need to know about the Republican sense of “humor.”

I think the only people this could really appeal to are hard-core, liberal-hating right-wingers. Just how many of them are there? How many of them go to the movies? Is it enough to support any kind of wide release of such a movie? If every Limabugh/Hannity fan in the country went to see it how many would that be?
I think this could end up being embarassing for them.

Shorter John Nolte: Liberal Jew Hollywood doesn’t like anything I write so I’ll show them by quoting from a website named after a bad 80s horror film.

It will fail like that racist/bigoted film that the Reichwing was pushing a few years ago which progressives predicted to be a huge failure.
Passion Of The Christ.

This is for real?! I saw this trailer a couple week ago and thought it was a spoof! I cannot believe someone actually made this movie!

Wingnuts like you are fantastic at religious agitation and culture wars.
Comedy – not so much.

The movie doesn’t look in any way worse than every other David Zucker film. It’s the same “Scary Movie” style jokes, just pointed at liberals rather than horror flicks or super hero films. The fact that movies like this get cranked out at the rate of three or four a year just shows that bad comedy can turn a healthy profit if production values are low enough.
I’m more than confident that Zucker will walk away a financial winner if he just plugs this movie non-stop until release.
Fix’d.
Face it, Paul. The Reichwing should stick to its strengths. Thirty million episodes of Law And Order and 24 hour cable news. When it comes to comedy, they’re dead in the water.

I’m sure Kevin Farley will be great in it. He does such a good job in those Hertz commercials. /snark

No, because as mind-shatteringly untalented and unfunny as he is, at least Jim Belushi’s not just going out there doing a half-assed John Belushi impression.
Kevin “I’ll continue to fuck my brother’s corpse as long as they’re paying me above scale” Farley ought to be ashamed of himself.
Paul L.
Here is a movie progressives can go to instead of American Carol.

Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor, but can even he pull that bit of casting off?
srv
Wait till you see him as Mike Nifong AND Oprah in his next movie.

I will admit I laughed at one bit in the trailer:
Announcer: From filmmaker David Zucker…
Cut card: “The master of movie satire.” -David Zucker
Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker were comedy gold back in the day, but out of all of the movies they’ve been individually responsible for since then, I think brother Zucker’s Rat Race wins the funny. YMMV, depending on your opinion of Hot Shots. David Zucker has been epitomizing the law of ever-diminishing returns, between taking over the Scary Movie franchise, and then producing the collective steaming-piles-of-crap that are _Noun_ Movie. I don’t have any expectations for the quality of this film, although it does appear he’s tapped his entire Rolodex to draw in marginally decent acting talent… subpar Farley notwithstanding.

As long as it’s in a double feature with Idiocracy, what with all the faggy talk and all.

It looks really funny. Quite a parody of the “left” and the “right’s” impression of them. So who is the joke on?
