Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Bark louder, little dog.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

i think the slant eyes team was from somewhere else, Ozzy.
i am watching Pelosi on MTP give away offshore oil.
she also said, without irony, that as Speaker, she has to make sure everything is on the table.
    mmmmmm. i seem to remember……

via CBS Sunday morning, Ed Begley also hates America, what with his bicycling and his solar panels. Rush says that every time someone screws in a compact flourescent, a POW weeps….. or something like that.

In fact it is specifically the Spanish Men’s Basketball team that is full of the racist motherfuckers.

Fuck the Spanish team. And I say that as someone who lived in Spain for six years.

That game was one of the all-time classic bball games to watch in my very humble opinion. Hats off to the Spanish coaching staff for making some great adjustments, especially defensively, after their first game debacle – incredible rebounding position kept the Spaniards in the game. Hats off to the American coaching staff for making offensive adjustments late in the game when the Spaniards got close.

I’ve just learned that the PUMA folks aren’t going to Denver to protest the convention. They’re going to Colorado Springs instead because they voted it to be a more appropriate convention town and they feel they have the votes to back up their claim

Yeah, that’s a good 70 miles away. That’s sort of like going to Providence, RI to protest a convention in Boston, or going to Dayton to protest a convention in Columbus, OH.

    Fucking losers.

Why root against the US? By all accounts, they have been great ambassadors over there. They did a fund raiser in Shanghai at a hospital where kids from the earthquake are recovering.

Rooting against the Duke U coaching staff is something I can get behind however!

I found myself rooting for them in flashes, too, but then I remembered that someone else already had a turn, and that was ATHENS. Also in the words of Harvey Araton these guys came a long way with “not confusing the world stage and the Rucker League”.
Spain is a very good ball club. You can see how the rest of the world caught up since Dream Team 1.

did you hear McCain was a P.O.W.?

Haha. McCain snuck that talking point in when he was defending the Biden remark about 7 kitchen tables. Apparently talking about how many kitchen tables he has now is off limits because when he was a POW he didn’t have one. He is trivializing it more and more.

I must counter Liberal Masochist. You might root against the big, bad USA, but rooting against Coach K is impossible. Similarly, I could never root against Joe Torre.

Since being a POW is such good leadership training and increasingly an absolute pre-requisite for higher office, have any of you considered just how many future Muslim leaders we are now producing down at Guantanamo, over in Abu Ghraib, throughout all those “black sites,” and with all of our “renditions”?

Of course, they will be peace lovers like John McCain, so maybe the world will be OK.

What’s that I hear from our President? We don’t torture. Rush thinks Abu Ghraib was like a frat party. Rumsfeld thinks everybody should stand more. So we’re not in the leadership-training business. Probably good.

But wait. If stress positions aren’t torture when we inflict them, then they weren’t torture when the Vietnamese did them. Then McCain was not really tortured. So he’s not qualified to be President. Not excused from cheating on his first wife and dumping her for a younger, richer woman. Not entitled to evade that “cone of silence.” Not entitled to all those houses and all those dinner tables.

    My head hurts.

John, did you know you’re filing EVERYTHING under “Did You Know John McCain was a POW?” Maybe I’m wrong, but some of these subjects just don’t seem to apply to the fact that John McCain was a POW. I mean, the Olympics? Spain? What do either of those things have to do with the fact that almost 40 years ago, John McCain was made a prisoner in Nam? NAM, man! What does Spain have to do with Vietnam, anyway? John McCain, I don’t believe, was ever a Spanish POW. Though if he was, we should nuke those fuckers tomorrow.

Will, I think John said he was going to file everything under “Did You Know John McCain was a POW?” until the election, or until McCain stops using it as a get out of jail free card.

On a serious note, you can’t watch the Olympics and the American athletes and not be struck by our racial/ethnic diversity and our immigrant origins. It’s glorious: our swimmers are almost all white, our track stars almost all black. The men’s basketball team is black, the men’s volleyball team white. Our women’s volleyball team had a Chinese coach, and our star gymnast a Russian father. I see all these fine athletes, the equal and then some of any in the world, and I’m proud to be an American.

We are an Obama nation. It’s our past, too often not acknowledged and certainly not reflected in our leadership, but even more it’s our future. Obama is America at its best today, and in the future.

McCain was a POW. Therefore, every post will highlight that. McCain cheated on his first wife because she was no longer beautiful. But he was a POW.

McCain has 7 kitchen tables. But at the Hanoi Hilton, he had no kitchen table. He was a POW.

Everything McCain fucks up can be excused because he was a POW.

    A POW.

    McCain.

    A POW.

    Can’t you see the logic?

The Spanish team was a serious bunch of bitches. Maybe they would have scored more points had they not spent the entire match nit-picking every little play to the referee.
