This just seems so dull by comparison.
As I write this, Tom Brokaw is talking about how John McCain is like a WWII fighter pilot. How many of them are still alive?
7:33 pm- Some 70 year olds wearing yellow, the color of surrender, are bringing in the colors. I suppose the point of having these old folks do this is to point out how broken the military is after eight years of Republican rule that we now have to draft old people.
8:13 pm- I honestly, not even in my wildest dreams (or nightmares, since I was a Republican for so long), thought I would be hearing Republicans seriously selling their candidate based on their experience in PTA and City Council.
Meanwhile, we learn that after months of attacking Obama’s experience, the McCain campaign has decided that questioning experience is sexist.
9:37 pm- Yawn. Has it occurred to the Republicans that they are having to spend their entire convention defending their VP?
Now Orson Swindle is speaking. You know who he is. The guy who smears the military service of anyone with a (d) after their name. Stay classy Republicans.

I demand to know why your server hasn’t already been taken out and shot. Even McCain didn’t crash Navy planes as often as your site has.
Incertus
Well, it isn’t dull outside the convention. Amy’s working on some video from today’s Democracy Now that tells more of the story.
Warren Terra
Maybe someone should tell Brokaw that McCain was a Vietnam POW. It’s hard to believe, because the normaly voluble Senator is so reticent on the subject, but investigation has revealed that it’s true.
DFD
And Sarah Palin is like that nurse in Pearl Harbor.

The GOP proposes we go from a Vice President who shoots people in the face, to a Vice President I’d like to shoot in the face.
slip
George McGovern, for starters.

Does the RNC look a little sparsely attended?
Socraticsilence
Wait, I have an idea to make it more fun, a “Flub Pool”
Pick the word you think Bush will mangle first. Oh, and an Over/Under on 9-11s, Mavericks, and Islamofacism.

They haven’t finished in the men’s room yet.

GIANT, SLOW MOTION FLAG is taken off the screen. Color guard presents the flag, carrying multiple flags, in front of a new video of the flag, mic’ed up so everyone can hear the marching orders. Absolute silence in the hall. Anthem sung by operatic baritone. Fun.
The weird thing is that FOX isn’t covering it, but MSNBC is.
Blue Neponset
That was a great rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
dewberry
But how many times have they shown the few folks of color?
Apparently, there are only 36 black delegates, so we’re going to have to get used to seeing the same faces over and over.
Or maybe they’re not even pretending anymore. That tent gets smaller and smaller.

The opening was odd: Gerald Ford spoke with our enemies? Boehner back to our roots? The Republicans are so screwed.

John’s server has a heroin problem. Every so often it just kinda passes out. When the peak is over, it’s partially rousable.
Jon H
George H. W. Bush is still kicking. He’s only 12 years older than McCain.
Did they really want to bring this up?
BTW, John, you might want to point your server host at this ebay sale. It might help.
I kid because I love.
Incertus
That really is a whole lot of honkiness going on at the RNC. And they’re fairly old honkies as well.
Delia
Is anybody going to cover the Ron Paul Convention?
SamFromUtah
The weird thing is that FOX isnāt covering it, but MSNBC is.
I’m not surprised Faux isn’t covering it. They want the Republicans to win.

Over on the Corner Derb lets us know that we are not at war and at the Xcel center the Republicans have become the party of Afro-Americans, Disabled Americans, and the down trodden generally, not to mention change.
Just Some Fuckhead
Look, I can’t deal with the site like this. Yer all just gonna have to imagine the witty shit I woulda said.
donovong
Uh, John. When surrendering, the traditional approach is to wave a white flag.
If you wave a yellow one, the enemy will all fall down and die from laughing.
Just sayin’…

Should this get through the link and the quote:
Now they tell us.
blogreeder
I second that!
I thought of a contest. John wrote:
What would have to happen to make it interesting? I can’t imagine John ever writing …this is so interesting! about a Republican National Convention. Really.
Sometimes your posts are unintentionally funny.

You know until recently Cole was a Republican most vocal in his love of all things Bush, right?
Stuck in the Fun House (nj)
Been watching, actually just listening to MSNBC and have yet to hear a democrat weigh in. The same was true for the dem convention coverage.
If any human reads this, please forward to West “”””By God” Virginia. thanks!

I remember. Of course not Cole1. I meant Cole2.
Scotty
Apparently it’s going to be a night of chicken hawks blowing their loads in their pants about the military.

I’m seeing more white and purple hair than I saw at great grandma’s funeral.
Who let all these people out of the nursing home?
Joe Vegas
This convention is sooooooooo boring. It’s been a meeting of the Elks Lodge for how long now? It’s like the corner veterans’ bar was given the key to the stadium and an open mic.
PC
I’ve had bowel movements more interesting than this convention.
Halteclere
I keep switching between the RNC and the Ron Paul rally. Oops – Paul Rally must be over because both C-SPAN channels are now showing President Bush.
capelza
I’ve had the greaest most snarkiest posts ever eaten by this tease of a server. It lures me in with quick transitions, everywhere, till I got to submit a comment.
You may never even read this.
The RNC..I tried…
PurpleGirl
I think the yellow (ribbons?) would have been for remembrance — I hate to mention a song from the 1970s about yellow ribbons on a tree but there is an older tradition (circa 1860s in Texas and the south) of girls wearing yellow ribbons round their necks to remember boyfriends. I think the yellow ribbons are to remind the convention attendees of the troops. (But not to remind them that the troops are broken.)
Halteclere
I’m glad to see President Bush is wearing his lapel pin. Go USA!

It isn’t some much the dullness as it is the mendacity and stupidity. It cannot be the case that the Republicans actually think that all the crap they have spewed over the years about identity politics was true, can they? The PUMAs, all six of the authentic ones, represent the identity wing of American politics. By and large people support the people they support because they like the outcomes of their policies. So McCain nominates a women who is antithetical to all the concerns of “independent” women and who is a religious nutter. Plus they lie. This RNC is beyond the pale in terms of lying and misrepresentation. God alone knows if it will work and she aint talking.

Chimpy slurred his words.
Again! LMFAO!

I take it there are recruiters from all the services just outside this glorious convention, waiting for all these young republicans to come out?

I caught Scarborough and Mika on earlier this evening talking about how small the room was at the X-Cel center. Then one of them said “Well it will look like a lot of people are here when it’s full.” There are a lot of empty seats being shown without being panned by the cameras.
