Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The willow is too close to the house.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

This post is in: Election 2008, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?

FacebookTweetEmail

Remember that bridge to nowhere Sarah Palin was supposed to have opposed and stopped, since she is a mavericky reformer and soulmate of John McCain?

Well, Andrew Halcro has some interesting quotes, including this:

“Palin said Alaska’s congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge as part of a package deal and that she ‘would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge.”

Ketchikan Daily News 9/2006

Even better, though, is this picture of Palin and her team campaigning in Ketchikan, back when their votes mattered and the bridge was a good thing:

I cropped the picture, you can see the entire thing at Halcro’s site, including the aides on either side wearing “Team Palin” buttons and “Palin for Governor” pamphlets on the table.

Sarah Palin is a liar. And btw, she is lying about troopergate, and the McCain team is nervous. Personally, I think it is just awesome that the Vice-Presidential nominee may have to stop her campaigning to testify under oath.

The fact is that although we have had a president who is opposed to abortion over the last eight years, abortions have not gone down and that is something we have to address.

    …

Guttmacher Institute: In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed, down from 1.31 million abortions in 2000.

Of course the Democratic talking point of keeping abortion “safe, legal, and rare” is a lie.
The democrats just took the rare part out of their Party Platform.

How can Palin be ready for the presidency when she is not ready to take a simple interview? She is after all such an accomplished EXECUTIVE that she should have no trouble dealing with the press and speaking about her vision of government and her stances on the issues.

What I gather is that all she has to say is what she’s been told to say. And they haven’t finished telling her what to say.

No, no, no! It’s all MEDIA generated lies and slander! Or so would be said by the sandbox analytical geniuses like those at RedState.

Speaking of RedState, that place is really cracking me up. It’s in panic mode. Like they got their quickie orgasm with the announcement of Palin as McCain’s pick, but now they find STDs. Shit. Undaunted, most are spun up into being good fantastical news for McCain! But he ones even they can’t spin up, it’s MSM generated lies. In one of several posts on that theme by head RSer Erick, he was even knocking Fox News. They’re all in on it! Desperation much?

You gotta give McCain credit. He could have gone for the safe comedy bet in Double Gitmo/All of the Above Mitt, but he really pushed the envelope with this pick. Listening to the Pubs newfound sensitivity to women’s issues and Hillary, arguing Palin has military command experience by virtue of her being Commander Gal of the AKNG, and her foreign policy expertise due to some frozen Russians and wily Canadians living nearby is just pure comedy gold.

. . . Biden also promised that an Obama-Biden government would go through Bush administration data with “a fine-toothed comb” and pursue criminal charges if necessary.

“If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation,” he said, “they will be pursued, not out of vengeance, not out of retribution – out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no one, no attorney general, no president, no one is above the law.”

As the Daily Howler points out, Congress canceled the earmark on November 16, 2005. That’s a year before she was elected as Governor of Alaska. She wasn’t even in a position to oppose the bridge! It was Congressional Republicans who axed the project!

I can’t find out what Palin was doing at the time, but a mere five months earlier she had been the director of the 527 group “Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.” I assume she was campaigning for her gubernatorial bid.

I was reading the Oregonians and it is full of letters from women. They ain’t happy. There are a couple of women who liked Palin but generally it was the Republican males that were cawing about how great the pick was.

In 2005, Palin and her sister Molly went to the Palmer Courthouse while Mike Wooten was in Portland with his stepson. They convinced a judge to grant Molly a domestic violence restraining order against Wooten. This was done so Molly could retain full custody of the children.

When Wooten returned from Portland, he realized that there was a order prohibiting him from seeing his kids. Three weeks later, Wooten was granted an appearance in front of the couple’s divorce judge.

In front of Judge Suddock, Molly testified that Wooten never hit her or never physically abused her or ever touched the children. She told the judge she was feeling pressure from her family to file the order.

including the aides on either side wearing “Team Palin” buttons

Is the d00d on the right wearing a special campaign button that can only be seen by ex-Republicans? heh.

I think there is a chance the media will prod this approach of governance-via-full-time-campaign. It hopefully will be helped along by two very articulate and charismatic Senators. Both of whom can be political fighters, yet manage to appear informed and FUCKIN’ RATIONAL!!! Even when they really piss me off! (Obama and the telecoms, Biden and any number of things. . .)

Both come across as knowledgeable (though not “experienced,) and able to “communicate” with the common man (read: bullshit is the high-fructose corn syrup of politics and media alike.) That might give us a good chance to expose what the leadership ideology and structure of the Republican party has increasingly become and is in hyper-overdrive at the moment – America’s version of authoritarianism.

I will not, however, be holding my breath.

Furthermore… it gets better: SHE FILED AN ETHICS COMPLAINT AGAINST HERSELF.

It’s her attempt at a smokescreen.

She asked the State Personnel Board to open an investigation about the topic. Members to the State Personnel Board are appointed by the Governor. Palin appointed all of the current members of the board.

After doing that, Palin’s lawyer is now trying to say that the current ongoing investigation should be ceased, and that the State Personnel Board is the appropriate place for this investigation. They also asked the investigator for all the evidence he’s collected thus far.

She’s looking to shut down the real investigation by starting a fake investigation, and as a bonus, she’s demanding the evidence the real investigation’s uncovered so that she’ll get to see everything that’s out there that could damage her.

Ezra Klein made the exact same point today:

I may be a political reporter, but I’m only human. It is simply not possible to keep up with quantity of scandals spilling out of Sarah Palin’s extremely short political career.

    And regarding the stonewalling technique:

She’s looking to shut down the real investigation by starting a fake investigation

How well did that work for Nixon? Delay? Bush is doing a reasonably good job of avoiding any prosecution for deleting emails, illegally firing lawyers in the AG office, etc – but the noose is tightening. Do we really think Palin’s as good as Cheney at obstruction?

Bridge to Nowhere – a Democratic scandal!

The news is reporting that Palin “flip-flopped” on the Bridge to Nowhere, and never sent back the money. The source of these news storeis is a “Mayor Bob Weinstein” of Ketchikan, Alaska.

Bob Weinstein is an entrenched Democrat. He is Alaska’s longest serving Mayor.

Bob Weinstein also has an ax to grind against Sarah Palin.

In May 12, 2008, the Juneau Empire newspaper reported in the story, “Ketchikan mayor says bias shown in road plan” the following:

Ketchikan’s mayor, angry about the loss of the city’s infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” is accusing the Juneau-based Department of Transportation and Public Facilities staff of bias against his project and being in favor of the Juneau Access Project. “It has been obvious to me for some time that the Southeast Region of DOT has an emotional commitment to the Juneau Access Project, and has been driving the project forward through the use of what appears to be inaccurate, incomplete and/or misleading information,” wrote Bob Weinstein, mayor of Ketchikan, in a March letter to DOT Commissioner Leo Von Scheben.

Palin gets nominated, an entrenched Democrat Mayor with an ax to grind against Palin starts a story, the liberal newspapers pick it up, and the Mayor’s accusations become “fact”.
