Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

We will not go back.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

The revolution will be supervised.

When we show up, we win.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Come on, man.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

This fight is for everything.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Consider this an open thread. Currently I am planning on taking a cocktail of vodka, dramamine, and no-doz to make it through McCain’s speech.

I think we may have the server issues fixed by the end of the day, btw.

*** Update ***

LOL. Posted a video instead of the ActBlue thing. ActBlue link should be up now.

Proof that Sarah Palin doesn’t always put her country first.

You should put the donation bar thingamajig back up. These past couple weeks motivated me to give my first twenty. And I’m stingy and poor.

THAT’S NOT CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN

Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland used the racially-tinged term “uppity” to describe Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Thursday.

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to compare her with Michelle Obama.

“Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they’re uppity,” Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word “uppity,” Westmoreland said, “Uppity, yeah.”

I read they are re-doing the stage so that it has a Town Hall feel… how cozy . Should we count the cheesy smiles that follow each head swivel?

Apparently Obama has been raking in the bucks from the Palin speech. Over $8,000,000 overnight.

I’m assuming that Larry Kudlow is currently on the television talking about how the market today is a reaction to the Republican VP Nominee?

    Amirite?

    Huh.

There is more truth on the right than there is on the left. You can tell this by the controls on thought that can be imposed by the wide range of people operating blogs. The right embraces controversy. The left silences it.

Still smarting over being banned from Political Animal, Bob? I can assure you it wasn’t because Steve was “silencing” controversy.

He did it because you’re an annoying asshole.

    Here’s a thought –
In 2000, George W. Bush was the governor of a border state facing a two-term incumbent. Did the Republicans back then EVER try to claim that Bush had “foreign policy experience” simply because he had been governor of Texas ? I’d bet the answer is “No, none of them said such a silly thing.”

I don’t remember if they did, but the funny thing is that they would have had a better argument for it. Texas governors have to address illegal immigration and probably get to meet with government officials from Mexico now and again.

The thing is–they could have a perfectly legitimate argument about her negotiating that pipeline deal with Canada. But they actively choose the ridiculous “staring down the Russians across the Bering Strait” argument since it sounds more belligerent. It’s amazing.

Well, Sarah convinced me. I just donated on ActBlue. I don’t think I’ve ever been that angry.

A conservative friend asked me why it didn’t bother me that the Dems mocked McCain and Bush. There’s a difference. We knocked pols running/holding office. They mocked people trying to help the poor. Despicable. And they call themselves Christians.
