Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

He really is that stupid.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Not all heroes wear capes.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

How stupid are these people?

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Why Not Just Call Yourself A Reformer With Results?

by John Cole|  September 5, 20083:58 pm| 36 Comments

This post is in: Election 2008, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?, Republican Crime Syndicate - aka the Bush Admin.

FacebookTweetEmail

Everyone go read this report from Mud Flats regarding Sarah Palin’s ongoing troopergate scandal and her new attempts to subvert the investigation, and make sure you watch the ABC report at the end of the post.

Then, when you are done, think about McCain’s calls last night for reform and change, and then go google the phrase “Reformer with Results.”

When I said yesterday that we have been down this road before, I was not kidding.

From the first link on Google

Bush is now selling himself as a maverick governor who took on the special interests in the education and judicial systems — and won.

Do we really want another maverick.

You should read how Rod Dreher is slobbering over Palin on his blog.

I mean, the guy just got over his disillusionment with George W. Bush, but the McCain campaign flashes Palin’s Christianity like a gang sign and he’s ready to fall back into line.

I’d really like to believe that Andrew Sullivan is way over the top with his Christianist rants, but Dreher’s instantaneous embrace of the lowest sort of Christian identity politics does more to prove his point than just about anything else.

I remarked to my wife as we spent three days watching Republicans and throwing things at the television, that GOP super-science must have perfected the adamantium-laced skull, since that was the only possible explanation for their endless parade of lying heads not exploding.

Someone (I think it was on the GOS) described Palin’s reforms as:

Not about getting rid of the corruption, but about getting rid of the competition.

Does anyone know btw what she did between resigning from the Oil commission (or whatever it is called) in “protest at the corruption” and becoming governor? It’s not like a middle class family with four kids can drop 60 or 70K from their income just like that.

Palin’s not even making the sale to all the religious conservatives. They still don’t like McCain, and Palin may not be enough to rope them all in.

Check this out, including the comments. There’s still head scratching going on, and now that the convention high is wearing off (really, these people don’t know how to handle their drugs, not even endorphins) the drip drip drip of scandals is worrying them. If they back her too hard and she falls due to some scandal, they fall with her.

Palin did not sell the former governor’s jet (for a profit!) on eBay? Instead she sold it to an Alaska state resident who donated to her campaign.

She sold it at a loss.

John McCain, a noun, a verb and POW.

Sarah Palin, a noun, a verb and a lie.

    What a ticket!

Didja know a one time John McCain couldn’t be unemployed for over five and a half years? Why? He was a POW! You people cashing your unemployment checks don’t know how good you have it.

For five and a half years, John McCain didn’t have granola to munch, trees to hug, or Chinese bikes to ride. I think we forget that at our peril. Thanks for reminding us, Birdzilla. You, sir (madam?) are a true patriot.

Nice FP post about how some Republicans actually like to recycle!

If I were on Obama’s team I would make an ad of the original quote with a voiceover asking:

“Was Rudy talking about Barack Obama? No. He was talking about (cut to picture of McCain) John McCain…”

That would be a nice way of turning his own words back on McCain.

The wingnut Captains of Industry have been working for decades to build Sarah Palin (yes, I mean build, like your childhood Erection set) Quite clearly something has gone horribly wrong.

I was slugging (ad-hoc hitch-hiking in DC area to use the HOV 3) and the people in the front seat were talking. “I’m a moderate republican” the African American military guy said, “But what was McCain thinking, if you are going to hammer Obama on experience, and you choose Palin?” Some agreement from the other passenger, and a non-committal from the long-haired 29-year old in the backseat, “Plus he’s like 72, and that’s scary.”

Caught the video of Palin speaking at the Cedarburg rally today.

Palin sans teleprompter…my lord, the woman is an amateur. It was just a shortened version of the speech she gave the other night, but she basically had to read the thing off the paper, stumbling and losing her place throughout. Pathetic.

Palin filed an ethics complaint against herself.

My understanding of the ethics complaint she filed is that it would basically nullify the existing investigation, and turn it over to a committee of folks she hired.

Yeah, but it’s a good sound bite, doncha think?

It encapsulates a key fact about Palin that is easily overlooked: Just because she’s gone up against some corrupt politicians in the past, doesn’t mean that she herself isn’t also corrupt.

Just because she’s gone up against some corrupt politicians in the past, doesn’t mean that she herself isn’t also corrupt.

Word in Alaska is that she went after the competition, and after chasing them out she stocked up on her supporters and people loyal to herself.

Read about her inept handling of the local dairy in her town and who benefited from the mismanagement. Same with the plane she “sold on ebay” which actually was sold to a campaign contributor for a half a million dollar loss.

She is a crook, and the righties just luv them sum crook!

Rome Again already noted this, but I must say that this:

I swear this woman is nothing more than Karl Rove with a Y chromosome.

Is an astonishing revelation about both Palin and Rove if Palin has a Y and Karl doesn’t.
