Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let there be snark.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Innocent people don’t delay justice.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Chutkan laughs. Lauro sits back down.

“Cheese and Kraken paired together for the appetizer trial.”

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

This really is a full service blog.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

What I Think

This post is in: Election 2008, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?

FacebookTweetEmail

First thing I see this morning on the tv is John McCain doing his stump speech, dedicating the first few minutes to the Bridge to Nowhere lie. Everytime I hear McCain speak, this is what I think:

Two more months for the American public to do the right thing.

What are you on, cup number 4 of coffee this AM Cole?

I think the McCain campaign has (reasonably) assumed they can get away with continuing to push this lie. Odds are, many more people will believe it than hear the correction from the media (mostly invisible so far) or the Obama campaign.

Most of Palin’s story they rolled out on day one has proven to be a big fat lie. Man, I love this country.

You know what’s kind of a sad thought? If McCain doesn’t even know it’s a lie because no one wants to tell him. He’s probably in a cocoon, and we know he doesn’t get online, so it’s possible.

One wonders if McCain will also refuse to go on the weekend talk shows over the next couple of months, and avoid press conferences.

Of course, after Campbell Brown actually practiced journalism, the media folks got it out of their system, so we probably shouldn’t expect any real questions of the Senator.

The “Audacity of Nope” handlers have their hands full…one candidate with addled brains, another who is an ignoramus. Many have questioned not only McCain’s judgment in choosing Palin, but also Palin’s judgment in accepting the job. My take is that Palin has a history of creating a mountain of problems in her jobs (i.e. the debt and legal issues she created as mayor), but has shown a talent for evading accountability and responsibility by hop skipping to the next job just in time. Kinda like an untrained truck driver driving blithely onwards with total disregard for the trail of car wrecks reflected in the rear view mirror. Accepting this job offer means that an army of the same “Good Old Boys” (whom she has claimed to disdain) has now congregated in Alaska to clean up the mess she created.

OK. McCain is a lying sack of shit. Fine. He always apologizes though, so really, isn’t that good enough for you? And I thought our new American spokesmodel did a good job of presenting her script. She read almost all the words exactly right.

Sarah Palin has taken on the issues in at least one exchange with reporters. When asked why one-fifth of Americans can’t find the U.S. on a world map —

“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some … people out there in our nation don’t have maps and uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for.”

And now that we are enlightened, excuse her please while she hides out in Alaska to memorize more brilliant stuff to WOW the crowd.

I’m just wondering if wingnuts think the rest of us are stupid, or if they’ve just gone completely insane. First they pick a candidate under investigation by the Alaska state legislature.

And now want to “curb” the report results previously scheduled scheduled due in October, and delay or even can the investigation altogether. Do they think the public or press are fools, ummm let me rephrase. Do they think we won’t notice such Mens Rea kind of behaviour and that it’s Ok because Sarah Palin is God’s gift to wingnuts. Sweet Baby Jeebus.

I ran across some Hannity crap where he was whining about how he has never seen such vicious attacks against anyone like the “attacks” against Palin.

He must not watch his own show or Faux Noize.

They like to call Obama an empty suit but Palin is the empty pantsuit. She is not even qualified to be the mayor of her own town because she fucked that up. Now McCain wants to put her in place as his spare tire in the White House.

The problem is that this spare tire has no tread, it has nails in it and it’s flat. But the fundies love her. Religious freaks are dangerous, as is religion in general. Every religion proclaims how peaceful they are, but in reality they all have blood on their hands that they want us to ignore.

If there is a god, these assholes better be rotting in hell. If Jesus were to arrive now, the fundies would imprison him, torture him and treat him like dirt, all the while proclaiming how much they love Jesus and god.

The Talibangecials love Palin, and anyone who has a brain should be scared. Sarah is looking out for Sarah, not us. The fact that she accepted a job that she is clearly not qualified for says it all for me.

You are so unfair to our wonderful new American spokesmodel. She does not know what the Vice President does, so you cannot possibly suggest she knowingly accepted a position she knew she was ridiculously unqualified to take. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGALIFIsobc

In my dreams, Obama opens up the first debate by saying:

“John, look me in the face and tell me that Sarah Palin didn’t support the Bridge to Nowhere, sold a jet on eBay for a profit, and didn’t hire a lobbyist to bring earmarks to Wasilla. Tell me I haven’t authored over 100 pieces of legislation. Tell me I never passed bi-partisan legislation. Those are all bold faced lies that you have spread on TV and the campaign trail. I repeat, look me in the face and tell me whether those statements are true or false. “

Religious freaks are dangerous, as seen up in Washington State this week:

MOUNT VERNON — Isaac Zamora, accused in the deaths of six people, says he kills for God.”I kill for God. I listen to God,” Zamora said twice Friday, his first public words after being arrested in the killings of a deputy, two neighbors, two construction workers and a motorist.

Shackled, unshaven and dressed in an orange jumpsuit, he spoke while signing legal paperwork. He appeared in court for a complaint that prosecutors filed against him accusing him of six counts of first-degree murder and four counts of first-degree assault in Tuesday’s bloody rampage.

Guns don’t kill people, etc etc….

    [cough! sputter! choke!]

    LOL!

I think they might do the right thing.

But, as Schiller said, “Against stupidity/The gods themselves/Contend in vain.”

It’s true that Bush actually lost in 2000, and in 2004 it’s not like his win (modulo electronic voting machines) was a blowout.

If you exclude African-American voters (disclosure: I’m not African-American), who seem to be far more intelligent than their compatriots on average (viz, they voted against someone who was patently a war criminal and moral monster in 2004 by overwhelming numbers, like any human being with a brain should have), then there’s considerable cause for worry.

Go read the freepers and their ilk if you are looking for sexism. They are overflowing with it and it is in their praise for Palin. For such good christians, I am sure seeing a lot of sexual references to Palin and what they would like to do to her if they could. I guess looks and a sexy body are more important than competence to the fundie mind.

I’m just calling it as I am seeing it unfold. Nothing more.

I felt awkward as a noob mentioning it (the offense thing) as I think this is a fantastic, raw and raucous site. I have long enjoyed your comments, and I know you were joking. I assure you I am no lady who does tea, and I fall into the “I’ll get my own fucking door, thank you” and “quit your girly whining” category of feminism. Will someone please mention in the press that Sarah Palin was basically unemployed for 3 of the ast 5 years?

Between the time she stepped down from the Alaska Oil Commission (Jan 2004) and she was inaugurated as governor (Dec 2006) there is nothing major on her resume. Well, except being on a 527 for a now indicted Senator. Is it that no company in Alaska thought she was a good hire with all her mayoral experience? Or did she have a job that she is now trying to hide?

Sexist! Sarah Palin has executive experience!

Scary thought I just had, Sarah Palin is 44 years old, which means that even though she recently had a baby, she is also close to pre-menopausal. Imagine what she’ll be like when she is “in the phase”.

Sorry to put this “sexist” comment here, but, biological differences are a reality, and menopausal women can be very difficult to deal with (and I say that as a woman myself).
