Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The lights are all blinking red.

Petty moves from a petty man.

I really should read my own blog.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Speaking of nobility, the PUMAs are on the prowl again. Now with extra Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild flavor. How long before Phyllis Schlafly gets in on the action, and starts saying how much she always loved Hillary Clinton?

    Whoops. Maybe not.

I can’t find the interview with Gilchrest after the ’06 elections. Pissed off, tired, and sad about the ass clowns had done to his party doesn’t begin to describe it. But still not ready to endorse a Dem. Or at least ready to argue about the definition of “endorse.”

    Still a shame he’s out.

Sounds like someone paid a visit to Gilchrest and ‘persuaded’ him to reconsider.

Sounds a lot like all those people in Alaska who mysteriously clammed up and now refuse to testify in the Palin investigation.

The GOP: it’s not a political party, it’s an organized crime family.

Republicans (the Limbaugh/Malkin set) have long considered Gilchrist one of the worst RINOs, which probably explains why this hasn’t gained traction. Opposing the war in Iraq and supporting environmental protections are mortal sins in the modern GOP, even for a fiscal conservative.

Environmental issues are important in the first district. It’s been hurt badly by the decline of the Chesapeake Bay. Locals have worked as watermen and in related industries for hundreds of years, so it’s both an economic and cultural matter. Sprawl coming across the bay is another related concern. Amazingly, protecting the environment to protect a way of life that has persisted for ages is not considered conservative these days.

I always thought Gilchrist reflected the views of his constituents pretty well. He’s much closer ideologically to the blue dog Democrat running for his seat, Kratovil, than he is to the wingnut who beat him in the primary, Harris, so his Kratovil endorsement makes a lot of sense.

I think the real Republicans need to take that RINO tag and start using it on the Limbaugh, “Contract With America” crowd and any other assorted jackass that has taken over the GOP.

    Make THEM own it.

(hat tip to Andrew Sullivan and dmagazine.com) Former publisher of National Review, Wick Allison, endorses Obama.

Barack Obama is not my ideal candidate for president. (In fact, I made the maximum donation to John McCain during the primaries, when there was still hope he might come to his senses.) But I now see that Obama is almost the ideal candidate for this moment in American history. I disagree with him on many issues. But those don’t matter as much as what Obama offers…. It gives me comfort just to think that after eight years of George W. Bush we will have a president who has actually read the Federalist Papers.

Most important, Obama will be a realist. I doubt he will taunt Russia, as McCain has, at the very moment when our national interest requires it as an ally. The crucial distinction in my mind is that, unlike John McCain, I am convinced he will not impulsively take us into another war unless American national interests are directly threatened.

“Every great cause,” Eric Hoffer wrote, “begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.” As a cause, conservatism may be dead. But as a stance, as a way of making judgments in a complex and difficult world, I believe it is very much alive in the instincts and predispositions of a liberal named Barack Obama.

I saw Serial Ass-Hat Ben Stein on CNN the other night. He absolutely and unequivocally knocked McCain’s financial plans and said he had “the wrong set of Financial advisors”…THEN he said that he wished McCain had OBAMA’S advisors…and then went on to absolutely and unequivocally endorse John McCain. He didn’t even blink when the other person being interviewed (either Rubin or Reich, I can’t remember) suggested that perhaps he should be endorsing Obama instead.

Guess he didn’t realize he had BBQ sauce all over his face.

Thanks for providing the link. Between WordPress problems and my own clumsiness, I couldn’t get the links to behave.

I remember when Stein was amusing, in the days before he became linked with creationists.

This is the second time I’ve read about someone blasting McCain’s economic ignorance, who then goes on to endorse him. There is this weird delusion that even if McCain himself is useless with respect to economic policy, he will at least appoint smart people to run executive branch agencies.

But of course, McCain selected the totally clueless Sarah Palin to be his running mate.

Not Gilchrest. He’s been on the outs and vocally so for a while. I’m surprised he didn’t pull a Chafee.
