Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

… gradually, and then suddenly.

“But what about the lurkers?”

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

They spent the last eight months firing professionals and replacing them with ideologues.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

So very ready.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Good tribute to Newman this morning.

Frank Newport of Gallup just said Obama’s lead over Mccain in their daily tracking poll will rise today to 8, count em, eight points.

    Bring back the comment borders!

Seriously, I find the comments section much more readable with the borders than the new borderless look.

Ah, so this is the result of the new server. I liked the comment borders too, but if I have to choose between comment borders and an actual, functioning blog…well, that’s a pretty easy choice.

I was glad David Edelstein highlighted his great performances in Hud and the Hustler, which often get forgotten because movies like Cool Hand Luke or the Sting appeal to more people. I hope I can find Rachel, Rachel on DVD. Don’t remember ever seeing it.

I need a face. I have no face.

And I guess we’ll use manual HTML. That should be fun.

Comments without Borders strikes me a just the answer to the unbounded balloon juice that one here finds.

I like the new design (this is part of what the $800 bought, right?). Are there going to be any other visible changes? I’m not absolutely sure if I want borders or not, because the numbers and our currently-default avis do delineate the difference between comments pretty well. (Hey, does this mean we get to register and upload avis? That would be cool.)

Server performance seems pretty snappy, so hopefully that will continue.

Oh shit! The html helper is gone. Well, I remember how to blockquote and italicize, but I guess that’s the end of embedding links for me!

And how do we put pictures in those little icons?

Yay, the text-size buttons at the right still work! The blogrolls appear to be AWOL, but I guess that’s being worked on.

Krista, I didn’t even notice the toolbar’s disappearance. Here’s some neat W3Schools tutorial links for those going through withdrawal.

    Formatting text (bold/strong, italic/em, etc.)

Blockquotes are easy: surround text with [blockquote] and [/blockquote], but change the [ to < and ] to >

Eek! No preview yet. Flying blind as I hit submit …

Krista, I didn’t even notice the toolbar’s disappearance

It appeared for a second, then disappeared just as fast on my computer. Likely just some bugs that need time to work out.

And thanks for allowing us more than one link. Let me try a few blog links to see what the new limit is before I get kicked into moderation.

Ditto that. I’ll patiently wait to see how the new design shakes out (I don’t have much choice in the matter now, do I?). But the borderless comments look oh so very 2003. Are we supposed to be coding our own borders in HTML now?

    Give us a back our 17 days comment borders ! ! !

I like it! Can’t wait for it to be done. I can adapt to the borderless comments.

Still very saddened at the loss of Newman. He was all man, all American..without being a cartoon Rambo.

Not to mention his great films and his charity.
