Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Not all heroes wear capes.

The revolution will be supervised.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Let’s finish the job.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

“woke” is the new caravan.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Proceed at your own peril to watch this, which can only be described as concentrated moron. At the very least, when recording a video of yourself discussing things, you should try to be minimally informed about the topics at hand. For example, you will never see or hear a videotape or audiotape of me discussing theoretical physics and string theory.

Interesting…Pandangon comments say that lots of people in Ohio are under the impression that early voting stopped on October 6, which was actually the last day to register.

So if anybody’s doing any phonebanking or canvassing for Ohio, I guess it’s good to get the word out that early voting is still going on … until November 3.

By the way, note I live in Ohio’s most populated (and most Democratic) county, and even taking that into account a disproportionate amount of the new registrations are in this county, and I just got my absentee ballot yesterday. They are clueless if they are relying on returns to date as somehow showing people are not voting.

Any insights on the area? I know it’s a blue county, with a pretty good early turnout, but other than that … ?

Columbus is the worlds biggest cowtown (well, we like to say that in Cleveland).

I have a hard time thinking of it as a blue county, since traditionally it is not, but it did go for Kerry by something like 1%, and it looks like we have a real good congressional pick up opportunity. Economy is very balanced, with it not being as industrial as Clev/Akron/Toledo areas (the state government and the countries largest university are located there). Even though Columbus is the state’s largest city essentially the city includes may parts which in other metro areas would be suburbs, and so its only the 3rd largest metro area in the state (Cleveland metro is maybe 3m, Cinci metro maybe 2m and C-bus metro maybe 1.5m). It has some intercity areas to it but of any metroarea in the state it is the closest to a post industrial metropolitan area. Trust me, if your coming to Ohio you could have really drawn some worse assigments (like Dayton or my childhood home of Youngstown).

    Good luck!

By the way Zuzu, Franklin County seems to me just the type of place demographically that is going to be what swings this country to majority Democratic. A little more educated, professional type people may work there then other places in Ohio. I think similar groups which appear to have or about to swing from Rep to Dem are found in the Philly suburbs and some other similar areas that gave the Dems many pickups in 06 and look like they may deliver some pickup opportunities this time around. Also note Ohio State (with something like 250,000 students) is in that county.

For the Sphynx lovers in the room, here’s a blog for you.
The owners ("persons" in cat blog land) are Canadians living in Germany. He is in the Canadian army (I think? Do they have an army?) and is allergic to cat fur so they have two Sphynx. And in case they somehow find me here and trace me back to me…I’ll simply say that the woman seems to truly enjoy taking numerous photos of her cats in a myriad of positions and expressions, along with all of their body parts, and scrapbooking same. A lot. Also.

I would like to thank John* for sucking me out of the cat blogosphere and relocating me to Balloon Juice Land. I never felt like my drunk commenting was much appreciated over there.

*Actually, I found Word Press Error Balloon Juice months ago via a link from Sully. He was trying his damndest to link to John (I think over a Hillary issue) and when I finally, DAYS later, got the site to pull up, I saw that John "Could no longer rationally discuss the Clintons", and I was home.
When do we get a new tag that says: "I can no longer rationally discuss McFailin"?

Fox pundit Michael Barone has his head up his ass. In other news, water is wet.

Basically, he’s saying that Obama has a lot of young volunteers, just like Howard Dean. Dean lost, so Obama’s got a lot to worry about.

@jnfr: That cute naked kitty cat can consume a pound of meat in a day and poop accordingly, so lion would save me a lot of money and trouble. Keeping body warm without insulating fur takes a lot of energy, hence eating. They also sit on your lap whenever they get a chance, and sleep with you between the sheets, for the same reason.

For better sphynx photos, I’d recommend Catberry cattery site.

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/4days

My apologies if it’s been posted here already. I get updates from Obama’s website (as I bet many of you also do) and wanted to try to spread it around a little.

I just say a clip on CNN of a woman who stood up at a McCain rally with a microphone and said she thought Obama was an Arab. McCain shook his head and said "No, he’s a good man, a decent man who I happen to have disagreements with."

What he should’ve just come out and said was that Obama was a Christian (not that it should matter). But no, that’d be too easy and that would be dispelling one of the major rumors out there about Obama. Shame on you McCain.
