Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

Second rate reporter says what?

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

The revolution will be supervised.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

All hail the time of the bunny!

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Waiting for some video to burn, so I have some time to chuck up some more pet pics. We will call this the tongue edition:

That second group looks like something from Cute Overload. Claim your pets in the comments, peeps.

Alright, back to work.

    Suggestion for Balloon-Juice 4.0.

It might improve the snark or blow up the trolls.

    Great Moments in Irony!

    From the NYT today:

Mr. McCain responded, "Well, sir, with your help and the people in this room, we will find out." He added: "Look, we don’t care about an old washed-up terrorist and his wife, who still, at least on Sept. 11, 2001, said he still wanted to bomb more. You know, but that’s not the point here.

Guess what? Bill Ayers is eight years younger than John McCain.

So if Ayers is "washed-up", what does that make the Fortunate Grandson?

Those dogs remind me of Obama. They are calm, collected, and just chilling. They won’t hesitate to pounce if someone starts shit, but they are cool regardless. McCain, on the other hand, is like one of those toy dogs hopped up on sugar, running around from one spot to another, entirely aimless. The only difference is, those toy dogs probably have more dignity.

Anyway, I should probably take a picture of my dog and post it here. Half the time, she sleeps on her back. I’m not sure if it’s because she likes to play dead or because she’s so fat that she can’t sleep on her stomach, but it’s pretty funny. I just worry that she’d pee and run away if I tried to get a shot of her.

Wow, Parker is talking about how Palin talks about how Obama is not one of us and is crossing a dangerous line. She said that she is inciting the crowd and it’s time to stop. She said that the socialist comment about Obama was wrong. Clearly he is liberal but not a socialist. I need a dvr so that I can do a better job paraphrasing.

well, I just got off the phone with my Faux Noise-deluded client who up until recently was insisting that if the media would just STFU about the economy, everything would be fine.

Her business has been devastated by the recession, her portfolio has been screwed like everyone else’s by the tanking markets… but all she cares about is which candidate is going to reinstate the estate tax.

That’s right. Who cares about whose policies created this mess which is devastating her business and her portfolio? More of the same, dammit!

Argh. I sure am a whore and diplomatic when necessity demands it. Thank goodness she didn’t ask me for whom I am voting, I don’t think I could have lied well enough to say, "I’m not voting" and I sure as hell was not going to say I was voting for McCain.

As soon as I got off that call, I donated to Obama to salve my conscience ever so slightly and give her a surreptitious finger. Probably not very courageous but hey, I gotta put food on my family…

By the way….learned something yesterday. As fleet, agile, and resourceful at cats are with running, leaping, and climbing…..they cannot outrun a greyhound, even just 15 feet to the fence (and safety). The damn dog is just insanely fast. It nearly ended in tragedy.

if you are in the Phoenix area, you have some free time on your hands Saturday and you are concerned, as I am, about the unhinged Obama hatred McCain is aiding and abetting, please email me at firenze_italia -at- hotmail.com.

I am thinking of organizing a (very impromptu) protest on this matter at McCain’s 16th Street office. It would be nice to have company.

I care more about the guy who actually did attack us on Sept. 11, 2001, who is still out there laughing at Bush and John "I got a plan" McCain.

I know he doesn’t necessarily need to do this, but if, at the next debate, McCain repeats this line of bullshit, I’d love if it Obama said, "Sen. McCain, if you know how to get Osama, why don’t we end this right now so you can march to the White House and tell President Bush? But first, perhaps, you’d like to let us know why you haven’t told anybody that you know how to do it for the last few years."

More good news for McCain, from Politico:
John Weaver, McCain’s former top strategist, said top Republicans have a responsibility to temper this behavior.

“People need to understand, for moral reasons and the protection of our civil society, the differences with Sen. Obama are ideological, based on clear differences on policy and a lack of experience compared to Sen. McCain,” Weaver said. “And from a purely practical political vantage point, please find me a swing voter, an undecided independent, or a torn female voter that finds an angry mob mentality attractive.”

“Sen. Obama is a classic liberal with an outdated economic agenda. We should take that agenda on in a robust manner. As a party we should not and must not stand by as the small amount of haters in our society question whether he is as American as the rest of us. Shame on them and shame on us if we allow this to take hold.”

on Sept. 11, 2001, said he still wanted to bomb more.

Another Fibber McLame mis-quote. Ayers said it on Sept. 10 (it was published on Sept. 11) and what he said was "I wish we had done more." Any resemblance between McLame and "honorable" is by now purely coincidental.
    .
And as for Sue Ann Nevins, doesn’t Palin remind you of that character (not the actress)? I’d say Palin IS Sue Ann Nevins, but with the worst characteristics exaggerated for effect.

At some point I’m going to send in a picture of my dog, Moxie. She was named after the soda not the noun. Two years after losing a SharPei (8yrs.) and a Golden Retreiver (16yrs), I met my street urchin. Her appearance is unusual. I like to think of her as a mini deerhound since she’s only 18lbs.

I have been watching the vids and listening to this McCain/Palin crap for a week and now I am mad as hell. Today, I made a pledge to myself. If anything untoward happens to Barack I am going to hold McCain/Palin personally responsible and the republican party as willing co-conspirators. I will make it my lifes work to e-mail, snail mail and telephone whatever contacts I have for McCain/Palin and tell them daily what they have induced. I will never let them forget it. I will contact every republican party big wig I can get hold of an address for and do the same. I will hopefully outlive McCain, but I will go to my grave hounding Palin every opportunity I get. I will never, ever let them forget what they have done in their pursuit of power. I will personally do everything I can to see to it that the two of them, and their party are cast into the political wilderness for a hundred years. That is my pledge to myself. God (whichever one you believe in) willing I won’t have to hold myself to it.

Were you tempted to say that under an Obama presidency, at least your client would have an estate to tax.

My mom is a fiscal republican. Totally liberal on social issues, not religious, just wants to pay 0 taxes and have Dow 36,000. The estate tax is a biggie for her too.

I asked her to vote for Obama and she mentioned that he’d bring back the estate tax. "Uh, mom, I’m an only child and your estate is going to me. Let me worry about the estate tax, okay?" She changed the subject. How she didn’t see that coming is beyond me, but I’m sure she spent an hour pacing the room searching for a new defense of her party affiliation after that.

I’ll try again tomorrow night. I’ll win her over. Not that it matters, she’s in Iowa, which might go for Obama more than Cali at this stage.

Don’t get mad. They want you mad. They want you to fight them. Just mock them mercilessly. They don’t deserve the expenditure of emotion that anger carries. Take a cue from Stewart/Colbert/South Park.
