Bush in a dress.

For the record, I would not read into anything regarding the booing. This is Philly. Remember this?

Maybe someone can come up with a good political aphorism; "When you lose Flyers fans…"

I posted this a bit ago in another thread but it belongs here:

Regarding Palin dropping the puck, one press comment I saw said that she was greeted with a mixture of boos and applause, which turned to applause when she dropped the puck. Why the change?

The way it dropped, she (and the official) should have just handed it to the Flyers. It was not between the sticks…lol! No wonder the crowd cheered. ;p

So I went canvassing today with Obama volunteers. It was pretty good times, especially since we didn’t run into a single McCain supporter. At least none that would identify themselves as one. In fact, it was such a good experience that I wasn’t even that pissed when I discovered that someone had stolen the VW emblem of the front of my car while I was out walking. I just shrugged, bought a good maduro cigar and a bottle of makers mark and enjoyed the evening. We got this shit.

The cheering after the puck drop? Happens every time after a ceremonial puck drop, as in, "Yeah! Time to see some hockey!" Don’t misinterpret the cheering as anything to do with Palin’s presence or how well she dropped the puck.

A minister delivering the invocation at John McCain’s rally in Davenport, Iowa Saturday told the crowd non-Christian religions around the world were praying for Barack Obama to win the U.S. presidential election.
“There are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens,” said Arnold Conrad, the former pastor of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Davenport.

I actually find her novel selection of names for her kids to be one of the few things I like about her.

At least for the girls – Bristol, Willow and Piper are actually nice names. The boys’ names, OTOH, kinda suck. Sticking your kids with names like "Track" and "Trig" is actually kinda cruel. Not as bad as naming your son "Kal-El" if you’re not actually from the planet Krypton (thank you Nick Cage) but close.

    JGabriel beat me to it–

Sarah Palin is NOT Nixon. Nixon was highly educated, and craved people who knew as much as he did. Of course, his ideas were mostly bad, and he let his personal demons take over, but he wasn’t anti-intellectual (conservative intellectualism, at least–or is that an oxy-moron?)

Palin is even worse than Bush–Bush got a good education. Didn’t do anything with it, but he did go to Yale. Palin rejects the entire NOTION that you need to know anything about anything.

Eagles fans still bask in booing Santa Claus in ’68

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Those famously churlish Philly fans can’t hide behind the urban legends. The truth is out there: They simply booed Santa Claus. Frank Olivo — the erstwhile Santa in question — wasn’t drunk, nor was his red suit in tatters that December day in 1968 when he walked onto the field for the halftime show, only to be met by a chorus of jeers and a snowball fusillade from Eagles fans But by all accounts, they had cause for an ugly mood. ‘The fans carried on like that because the Eagles were horrible,’ Olivo said.

    Nice,

John McCain says there are three people who’s advice he would seek in the White House is John Lewis. So, John Lewis gives McCain some advise that "Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse." What does McCain do? Demands that Obama denounce Lewis.

Hey McCain. You fucking invited the advise, dickwad.

You know, I don’t go after McCain all that much, but the media should absolutely eviscerate McCain over this. McCain himself made the case that Lewis’ judgement was the best he could seek out – presumably better than his own on such matters. But as soon as that judgement is offered, not only does McCain declare it to be bullshit, but he demands that other people declare it to be bullshit as well. Fuck him.

Over at the New York Times, they actually have a blog devoted to Hockey with an entry on the Philly "boo"’s.

The best part though is the comments section, about half of which comes from the keyboards of the pearl-clutching conservative set:

Dood@9:20 pm: As usual. No hate like liberal hate.

Mark@9:29 pm: So let me get this straight. When Republicans boo Obama at a Republican rally it is because they are angry racists, but when hockey spectators boo Sarah Palin at a Flyers game, they are to be commended? Wow, talk about a heaping helping of hypocrisy.

KBL@9:38 pm: It looks like Obama in Philadelphia has been “sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse.” For shame, Obama and the Philadelphia Democrats. Such anger. Such ugliness.

MNVet@9:54 pm: Way to go, libbies. Just watching you try to justify booing a little six ear old girl is hilarious. I thought you were the party of peace, love and compassion? What a friggin joke you people are. I can’t wait to see the peaceniks when their messiah loses on the fourth. I hope the riot police are prepared.

NoMilk@10:39 pm: Sorry to see Obama supporters fueling a climate of hatred against their political opponents.

    And so on.

I did post a response to that last one by NoMilk:

Let’s see if we can explain this.

Hockey fans booing a political figure = pretty natural behavior.

Attendees at a political rally screaming “Kill Him!”, “Treason!”, “Traitor!”, and “Off With His Head” = a climate of hatred.

Please try to remember the difference. One way you can tell them apart is that the latter involves death threats, where the other only expresses disapproval.

Anyhow, check out the WATB and the snark over there. It’s pretty amusing.

"The buzz in those corridors is that federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has been leading a team of FBI investigators in 10 states working on a RICO case….
    .
If everything rumored here is true, it looks like David Axelrod, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, SoetorObama himself, and possibly even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were all involved, together, in massive RICO violations, and thus federal fraud, if the DNC and party leadership knew what the SoetorObama campaign and ACORN were up to and allowed it to proceed. Knowledge of federal crimes being committed makes all parties accessories to those crimes — and part of the conspiracy to defraud the public.
    .
THAT would certainly be one Hell of a shock tomorrow morning."

This was posted last Thursday. Needless to say, Patrick Fitzgerald did no such thing.

    Isn’t the delusion here priceless?

    Common Sense:

I’m betting this gives knuckleheads a meme to repeat for a while—"There’s a difference between ONE GUY yelling "Kill Him!" and TWENTY THOUSAND PEOPLE booing HER LITTLE KID!"

Yep, that’s exactly what they’re doing at the Times thread I linked above.

I reminded the people pushing that line that there are a lot more than one or two Republicans doing that, and gave them the youtube links for the Strongsville OH and Bethlehem PA videos as evidence.

So she even admitted ahead of time that she planned to use her child as a boo-shield:

A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”

Well, I guess it’s safe to say she’s never been to Philly or Yankee Stadium.

    And this is brilliant:

With the help of del.icio.us founder Joshua Schachter, we used a recommendation algorithm to score every blog on Memeorandum based on their linking activity in the last three months. Then I wrote a Greasemonkey script to pull that information out of Google Spreadsheets, and colorize Memeorandum on-the-fly. Left-leaning blogs are blue and right-leaning blogs are red, with darker colors representing strong biases.

She’s lucky they didn’t get pelted with TastyKakes, as happened to some pro wrestlers performing at the Philly Civic Center in lieu of a day of Rocky filming (they’d already finished).

Stallone showed up, yapped a bit from the ring, then the wrestlers came out, and the free TastyKakes started flying.

    This was back in 1989/1990.

Then again, if you have to be pelted, coffee cakes and faux Twinkies would be better than batteries.

OT, but this is pissing me off. This financial mess we are in was not caused by Obama. It was not caused by ACORN. It was not caused by poor blacks (and other poor people that the wingnuts despise). It is not a "Democrat" conspiracy to destroy the Republicans, take over American and impose Socialism, Marxism, Leninism or any other ‘ism’ that makes these assholes piss their pants and cry for mama. This is the latest racist spin out of the right that is taking hold, and it needs to be called out for what it is. Racist scapegoating in the hope of throwing the election and if not that then to set up the next narrative that the right will be bitching and whining about ad infinitum, or at least until they regain control.

The narrative is that Obama had a hand in the financial collapse, and ACORN is the vehicle used in the ‘hit’. That this whole mess is the fault of the Democrats as a plan to bring down the Repubs. This is shit that is tailor made to appeal to the fucking nutjob racists out there, a way that is custom fit to appeal to the need of these racist assholes to blame everyone who isn’t white for whatever calamity we face which has usually been caused by rich white guys screwing everyone over, regardless of color.

This is bullshit and these assholes who are feeding this shit know it. I can hear this dog whistle loud and clear, and I ain’t a damn dog. The end of this paragraph is a link to a shit stain of a site that a nutjob RedState member posted. Warning: Plug your nose and hold your breath before linking. You may need to bleach your brain after reading this shit.

This diary at Kos set me off about it. Sorry about the rant but this shit is just too much for this white guy to take without venting. These racist fucks can fuck off and die, hopefully in the worst way imaginable.

I’m still wondering how the SNL studio audience will react on October 25, when supposedly Palin will put in an appearance.

"There are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah…"

Somebody tell this horse’s ass that he prays to Allah too, as do all the members of his congregation. Same deity, different name. You’d think that someone professing to be a religious leader would know that. On the other hand, the likelihood that his professional credentials arrived at his house in an envelope addressed to "Occupant" is probably pretty high.

To Bush’s credit (I never thought I would utter those words) at least there’s a little skill involved in throwing a pitch. Palin needed two cute daughters and the hand of a bona fide hockey mom just to drop a hockey puck onto the ice.

Shorter Glenn Reynolds: The DFH’s iz scary.

Does the Right really want to go there? Its not just Reynolds. The Usual Suspects are all on board with this notion that people calling Obama a "terrorist", "traitor", calling for his death at public gatherings and Governor Spice being booed at a hockey game are somehow equivalent. Jesus!

BTW shouldn’t The McCain campaign know better than to send Palin to a major sporting event? EVERY politician is going to hear some boos at a sporting event. Good grief just how stupid are these people?

But, alas, it really is scary to think we might have a President who will actually listen to ALL arguments before making a decision based on FACTS. Empiricism isn’t dead but the Right spent the last eight years making sure it didn’t get any life support.

She is actually Richard Nixon with lipstick.

Nah. Dick was an evil, vicious, paranoid fuck, but he was no idiot.

    Palin is Chick Cheney.

Nah. Cheney is much smarter than Palin, not to mention that he turns to dust in sunlight.

Palin is Michelle Bachman with . . . hmmm . . . no, not lipstick; the crazy congresswoman uses that too . . . no, not extra-crazy or race-baitingly stupid; they both score on those accounts . . . no, not with even more theocracy; again, they both want to supplant the Constitution with an inane version of the bible.

Yes. They totally booed her daughter. Not Sarah Palin. Sarah was beyond reproach. She didn’t do anything that could make anyone think ill of her. She didn’t hide behind the skirts of a seven-year-old. She wasn’t stupid enough to stage a photo op at a Philadelphia sports arena.

This is why they’re not letting her out of her underground bunker, except to be Rockstar Barbie in front of prescreened crowds of fanatics. She doesn’t even have the courage to look the people who dislike her in the eye and say "Yeah, you hate me? Well, go to hell. I hate you too."

John, that’s awfully provincial of you. Philadelphians are about ready to burst with Democratic pride these days. As a Philadelphia fan…

We Philadelphia fans boo two things–losers who suck and in the case of Santa, when we are losing the game.

As anyone in Philly knows, Santa was booed because at the time we were losing that game. All the other people who were booed in Philly were booed because at the time they were being sucky losers.

Clearly the whole "Well Santa was booed too!" line doesn’t apply because Santa was booed because of the way the game was going, and since the Flyers game didn’t even start yet, you can hardly use that excuse.

Sarah Palin was booed because she is simply a loser who sucks; and I’ve never been more proud of my fellow Philly fans.
