Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

75% of people clapping liked the show!

Republicans do not trust women.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Celebrate the fucking wins.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

He really is that stupid.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Consistently wrong since 2002

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Here’s what Gov. Crist said about Palin:

I asked Crist if he thought Palin was going to lure undecided voters to the ticket.
"I think we both know the answer to that," he said. "But there’s no question she fired up the base."

Voted yesterday. Long lines–four hours where we were–but the optical scan system felt like an improvement on the black box I used last time. I hope this level of involvement keeps up for the whole two weeks, as we only saw three or four people ahead of us give up and go home.

    Dear friends:

    THIS IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS.

Minutes ago I spoke with friend Dr. Norman G. Marvin, M.D. and he is so concerned at what he has learned about Barack Obama’s family in Kenya that he is calling a special prayer meeting in his home to pray against the witchcraft curses attempted by them against John McCain and Sarah Palin.

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DO SPIRITUAL WARFARE, PLEASE PRAY TODAY AND CONTINUALLY THAT ALL SUCH CURSES BE BROKEN AND SATAN’S PLAN FOR AMERICA BE DEFEATED, IN JESUS’ NAME. PRAY AND COVER MCCAIN AND PALIN WITH THE BLOOD OF CHRIST. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO SPIRITUAL WARFARE, IT IS TIME YOU LEARN!!!

@Soylent Green: Seems to me that if Jeebus is on McCain and Palin’s side, he’d handle up on the curses without any prompting. Or is it like Simon Says for these people? Jeebus can’t stop the bad shit unless someone asks him in precisely the right way. Omnipotence is overrated.

This reminds me of a Dilbert comic where Wally decides that he’s going to quit the dating scene and decide to reproduce by asexual cell division. The last frame is Dilbert deciding to avoid Wally, while Wally is sitting in his cube with his eyes screwed tight, fist clenched saying "divide, divide, divide, divide".

The downside of Oregon’s vote by mail is it leaves no good stories to tell. "I walked to the corner and carefully inserted my ballot into the box" doesn’t cut it.

Anybody seen the cool pictures that Sully’s been posting of Obama and his grandfather? Man, they really look alike.

The downside of Oregon’s vote by mail is it leaves no good stories to tell. "I walked to the corner and carefully inserted my ballot into the box" doesn’t cut it.

Yeah, but man, it sure is convenient. I’m not sure I want to wait around for 4 hours like that. Gives me more time to canvass! Especially with the weather being so nice. Speaking of that, I noticed that someone canvassed in our area. I think the Merkley and Obama posters should tell the story about who I’m supporting.

The Merkley one I got by accident. I was trying to get David Edwards, the local rep to the Oregon senate and they bought the wrong sign. Unfortunately, I’m only voting for Merkely because I’m trying to grow the Democratic portion of the senate. That way we can kick that fuckhead, Lieberman to the curb. Otherwise, I’ve voted Smith the whole time I’ve been in Oregon. He’s been decent. No offense Gordon.. but it’s time for you to go. Otherwise, Merkley doesn’t really impress me much.

just saw a story on CNN that early voters in West Virginia were encountering problems with voting machines that were switching their votes for Obama over to McCain.

Get ready for a big mess on November 4. It is absolutely outrageous that there no mandatory paper trails for every state that uses those contraptions. It is just asking for cheating.

just saw a story on CNN that early voters in West Virginia were encountering problems with voting machines that were switching their votes for Obama over to McCain.

I’m glad CNN picked it up. I saw that story a few days ago, and was really worried that it would just go ignored. Hopefully this will be seriously investigated. The kicker is that the election officials, who just happen to be Republican, are writing it off as voter error. And yet, there are NO reports of McCain votes being switched to Obama votes by the machines.

    Funny, that.

The dream dies. The whitey tape is no more (link to Flowbee’s House of Crazy, so be warned)

None of my three main sources on who told me about the existence of a video recording of Michelle Obama making disparaging comments about white folks have backed off. Two of these sources are Democrats and are journalists. They were not trying to sabotage the Obama campaign. They were passing on something they believed to be true. The fact that my third source, a person who lives on the West Coast and is a Republican, has no ties whatsoever to the other two but told the same story persuaded me this “tape” exists. My Republican friend tells me that the McCain campaign intervened and requested the tape not be used.

There also is the fact that the Obama campaign at one point circulated the lame story that Michelle was not using “whitey” as an epithet. Nope. She was saying, “Why’d he.” You don’t put out a story line like that if such a recording does not exist. At this point I don’t think it is going to be used.

Somehow, the world is a sadder place now that the whitey tape has gone to the great smear archive in the sky.

That was a big mistake, because McCain fans are going to be demanding that tape and wondering why McCain is not using it against Obama because it’s a game changer material. McCain requesting not being used while he’s down in the polls and getting worse and already considering to use Rev. Wright? Come on..

I got my mail-in ballot last week and filled it in Friday. The highlights: All Democrats, one Libertarian, no Republicans, NO on the anti-marriage Prop 102 (Too bad there wasn’t a FUCK YOU bubble to fill in instead). I was housebound much of the weekend and finally made it to the post office today to mail it off. Yes!

Been feeling like I should be doing something else to help, especially since I also got a call late last week from the Tucson office of the Obama campaign, begging for help (canvassing, phonebanking, envelope-stuffing, driving to New Mexico to canvass there). The thought of making calls or going door-to-door churns my stomach (yeah, I’m that painfully shy), but I bit the bullet and signed up through the Obama website to make calls to undecideds and leaners.

I got a script focusing on the tax cuts, an interactive form to fill out on the call for the campaign to track, a list of ten numbers and four days to make them. Made the first four calls tonight. Two answering machines, one "He’s not here", and one "Wrong number; this is the third time someone’s called for him!". Oops. Anyway, that was enough for the first night. Finish it over the next couple of days.

We recovering alkies and junkies and stuff have a saying which goes ‘be careful what you pray for’, meaning stick to stuff along the lines of ‘thy will be done’.

I think it is a GREAT idea for the fundies to pray like mad that all such curses be broken and Satan’s plan for America be defeated, and if you won’t tell them they’ve inadvertently picked the wrong side there, I won’t.
