The Highest Paid Staffer In McCain’s Campaign Is…

Sarah Palin’s makeup artist. If that seems crazy, keep in mind that at least Sarah Palin looks good. That makes Amy Strozzi, who almost won an Emmy for her work on the show “So You Think You Can Dance?”, about the only member of McCain’s staff who can look herself in the mirror without shame. That’s not an outrage. It’s merit pay.

***Update***

Fixed the link. The unrelated Wolcott essay, which I also recommend, is here.

Off topic but…. The Dow Jones Industrial average is as the rock of Gibralter. Just look at the 3 year average at:

    http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/charts/chartdl.aspx?Symbol=%24INDU&CP=0&PT=0

But this can only help McCain.

Remember, down is up in the Republican party! So everything is going just fine, no need to sweat it at all. Everything will come up roses and sunshine, just have faith!

Give me a trowel and some spackle and I will be more than happy to make up the pitbull. Oh well, at least one person is earning their keep in the McCain campaign.

". . . the only member of McCain’s staff who can look herself in the mirror without shame."

But only if she has no conscience. Spending your days putting lipstick on a metaphorical something or other is actually quite shameful.

In before Atanarjuat explains how this is another example of Obama’s liberal hypocrisy, since this bumps up the average pay of women on McCain’s staff even further.

I don’t get it. Does this mean Balloon-Juice is too sophisticated for me? Or maybe it’s Vanity Fair that’s over my head, because I didn’t read anything about Sarah Palin’s make-up artist.

obviously it’s the time-and-a-half that strozzi’s putting in working on the mcflopsweat half of the ticket that’s sucking up the big bucks.

I would love to hear how much her hairdresser gets too.

no this isn’t snarky, and no I dont think its important in relation to all the other stuff, but I would love to see a current running total on how much of Old Spices meager Campaign money has been blown on shining up Shallow Spice

    Clothes $250,000
    Make-up $91,200 ( around 8 weeks at $11,400 per week )

    Total $341,200

    Hairdresser $???
    Manicurist maybe?

If I were a Rethug contributer I would be Sooo Pissed !!!

You can’t extrapolate from such a narrow timeframe to a larger one like a year, over which I am sure Schmidt etc. would make more, given that a makeup artist’s services would not be as consistently employed as those of a senior advisor.

Now, if this data were used comparatively with Obama campaign data we might get an idea of whether or not this is an unusual expense (I have no idea how much professional makeup artists charge). This is why the $150K clothing expense stands out so much.

This strikes me as kind of ginned-up. There’s plenty of real atrocities to document – no need to stretch.

The NYT article says Palin’s hairdresser was paid $10K for the first two weeks of October. That’s $32,800 in salon services for two weeks in October.

But, don’t worry, the campaign is donating her head to charity after Nov. 4.

They could of had better use of that money..

Such as sending her for a quick course in Constitutional LAW.

Since she has no idea, what the job requirements are, that she is trying to be "hired" for.

And she wasn’t "elected", as she says out on the stump, she was "selected" by John McCain. Not one person in America cast a vote for her as a VP nominee.

    She’s an idjit.

No, she doesn’t. I wish every pundit and blogger in the world would quit telling me what I’m attracted to. I’m sure there are quite a few like me out here who are not particularly attracted to forty-something mothers of five who wear layers of church-lady makeup and baggy clothing to hide the several linear miles of stretch marks.
