Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Let me file that under fuck it.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Republicans do not trust women.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Fight them, without becoming them!

“Alexa, change the president.”

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

I had not seen this before, but it goes with what we were talking about earlier.

What a disgrace.

For the life of me, I still can’t understand why McCain through that all away. His cozy relationship with the press was his biggest asset. Thank the flying spaghetti monster he did though.

And on an unrelated topic, loosing Republicans continue to go nuts (Washington Monthly):

Sen. Elizabeth Dole’s latest advertisement suggests her Democratic opponent, Kay Hagan, is a godless heathen.

"A leader of the Godless Americans PAC recently held a secret fundraiser for Kay Hagan," the 30-second spot says, showing footage of the group’s members talking about their atheist beliefs on cable news.

"Godless Americans and Kay Hagan. She hid from cameras. Took godless money," the ad concludes. "What did Kay Hagan promise in return?"

At the very end of the ad, a voice sounding like Hagan’s says: "There is no God."

This makes McCain’s attacks on Obama seem almost reasonable in comparison. Steve Benen points out Hagan is a Sunday school teacher.

It’s about the press who had just come to Cottonwood from their home in DC. At the house of some friends, they met a man about whom they’d heard their whole life. A very great and courageous man. He opened up for them a whole beautiful world full of knowledge and thoughts and ideals. Everything they knew or ever became was because of him. And they looked up to him and worshiped him… with a feeling they supposed was love

Off-topic, but too good to let pass. Via Talking Points Memo, Barack Obama has confessed to being a redistributing socialist:

"By the end of the week, he’ll be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten," Obama said, as per the prepared remarks. Then he added: "I shared my — I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich."

Students of this election will recall that this is not the first time that Obama’s kindergarten behavior has come under scrutiny; back in December, the Clinton campaign actually accused him of writing an essay in kindergarten where he evidenced his presidential ambitions.

Via pandagon, Republicans run a weird ad against Al Franken that looks like a spoof. Victoria Jackson who appears in the ad has this to say about Obama on her web-site:

I don’t want a political label, but Obama bears traits that resemble the anti- Christ and I’m scared to death that un-educated people will ignorantly vote him into office.

What on earth is happening to the Republican party? Has the strain of maintaining a world view so obviously in conflict with reality gotten so great that those who haven’t jumped ship are just going nuts?

Then he added: "I shared my—I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich."

I caught this live when it happened. I was in another room listening to it and had to smile when he cracked that line, and then followed it with "heh". I love it when he laughs at his own jokes, not from ego, but from a clear acknowledgment of the insanity behind whatever new accusation he is mocking in his endearing way. He got too much heat for the brushing off the shoulder gesture, so a snarky little "heh" totally gets the same point across.

I don’t mind if reporters take a ride on McCain’s tire swing, or even swing from his wrinkled nutsack, as long as they’re open about their point-of-view. It’s the bullshit "I’m objective" nonsense that bugs me.

What on earth is happening to the Republican party?

Ever hear of the Southern strategy? These repubic pigs (some with lip stick) sold their souls long ago. Hate, vile attacks, and lies are all they have left as their souls. They have not changed but rather, as their greatest fear – a black man becomes president and proves that blacks are not dangerous criminals; rather, blacks can not only run our country but can do a far better job than the white, racist criminals who have held power under the repub-a-thugs. As the veil is torn, even people in western Pennsylvania, and some day, West Virginia and other area’s of Appalachia may realize the truth: those lying thugs only cared about the money and have always tried to use fear of the other as cover to destroy this countries truly great virtue – give everyone a fair chance.

    Regarding the whole "anti-Christ" thing…

I was talking with one of my oldest friends a couple of weeks ago about the campaign. A solid Republican and devout Christian, he was bristling over the use of "anti-Christ" to describe Obama; although he’d never put it in these words, his basic attitude was "let’s get some fucking perspective, here." For one thing, it’s not a term one should just casually toss around (just like you really shouldn’t compare someone to Hitler or Stalin or Mao unless they’ve made a serious effort to imprison or execute millions of their fellow citizens), and secondly, anyone who seriously believes that electing Obama will bring on the End Times needs their head examined.

Another old friend of mine is an ordained Methodist minister, currently doing missionary work in Costa Rica, and his opinion was that Revelation was "a bunch of drug-induced mystic mumbo-jumbo that should have never been included in the Bible in the first place."

And yeah, I’m a little-a atheist. Go figure.

The more I see of John McCain, the less I understand of his appeal. I swear, I may throw something through the TV the next time I hear that annoying "My friends" schtick of his.

Years ago when Maria Shriver was still a reporter she was at some event for John McCain and as he passed her,she tried to ask him a question and he blew up at her.He yelled something like "why dont you get out of here!"

It might have been worse than but I dont remember the exact wording.I do recall how rude and screwy he seemed.I’m surprised that the video has’nt shown up in this election. Then again this occured during the golden era of press tire swinging,so it’s not too surprising that it was tossed down the memory hole.
