I’d better not drink. I think I’m too wired to drink. Hell, I’m too wired to even think.
I’ve never cared about an election this much. I’m trying to distract myself, but here I am.
Shinobi
Forget drinking. There is nothing like celebrating 4:20 on Election day. Voting and then breaking the law gets me hot.
Michael D.
Yes! I am breaking my 3 month old “No drinking during the week” habit to just revel in this.
Neal
Two bottles of champagne, some whacky tobaccy, and a 12-pack of beer on deck…and that’s just for me and the wife. We’ll see who wants to join us…
passerby
I’ve taken the day off work. 7’s a little late to wait so I’m going with 5pm.
cheers

Correction: drinking BEGAN at 7.
Krista
Hell, I’m drunk right now!
Actually no. I’m not. I’m still at work. I didn’t even have the fun of voting for Obama today.
Svensker
Time zone?
South of I-10
I don’t think I will be able to watch tonight without some drinks. I am too nervous.

We could be in power for a generation.
For years the right had Billo, Rush etal and we had nothing. Now we have you, Kos, Huff, C & L, Keith, Chris, Rachel, Maher, Colbert, Stewart, Moveon, etc., etc.,
Why this is SO IMPORTANT is that the SECOND there is a right wing talking point WE (the REAL MAJORITY) get instant and EXCELLENT retorts.
We then get onto the tube thing where we can Googles and set the record straight.
We have KNOWLEDGE, POWER, and a love for America that will never let America fall into the racist, homophobic, fundy hole that the Regugs offer
Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse
I’ve been home all day, but I’ve actually been working for most of that time. That SUCKS (except for the earning money part).
I have to get a project done by 4, then it’s on my bike because it’s a glorious, sunny 19 (low 70s, metricphobes) and I have to get out and enjoy what little daylight is left.
I have one beer. I may get more. And I’ve learned my lesson and won’t be ordering KFC tonight. Instead, I found a Popeye’s that delivers.
Delia
Obama’s grandma’s vote counts (via Sully)
(And I’m one of those people who can’t drink. It gives me headaches. I just have to watch the whole thing stone cold sober.)
Bad Horse's Filly
Comrade Mary, I just finished a ride. It’s about 60 here. Needed to do something, not sure I can take much more…I’m a bit tense. Then at 3 I head out to the polls as a poll runner for Obama. Here’s hoping for a Blue Colorado.
Perry Como
Drinking begins promptly at in 7. Minutes. See you at the bar!

Rove is a defeatist and an enabler of the opposition. he is objectively pro-Obama.
why does Rove hate America ?
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
Interesting Delia. Thanks.
I find it interesting that REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin went to Hawaii after his fame ran out and became an election official.

Ditto drinking gives me headaches… will be watching teevee and clutching my blankie with anticipation…and either sob with joy or sob with disgust depending on the outcome. I’m hoping for joy and a victory lap around the bedroom.
Ugh
Anyone else going to the DCCC/DSCC election night party in Washington D.C. tonight? I imagine there will be heavy drinking going on there (and probably some crying, no matter who wins the presidency).
A la lanterne les aristos!
Heading directly to drinking after work, just haven’t decided where yet.
Taking tomorrow off to sober up/nurse hangover/post bail.
Litlebritdifrnt
I am gonna stick to Heineken Lite this evening, otherwise I will be drunk and asleep when the action really starts. I cannot WAIT to watch the wailing and a gnashing of teeth at Fox News.
The Other Steve
Joe the plumber is looking for work, or at least a way to cash in from his 15 minutes of fame. He’s thinking about starting a charity so he can decide how other peoples money is spent.
In other news, I just got a call from Obama’s campaign asking for help doing door knocking. They claim the election is closer than people think.
cleek
there will be drinking.
and, if i’m confident in the results, there will be fireworks.
and all my McCain-lovin neighbors can suck it. suck it like it’s never been sucked before. suck it till i say stop. then they can eat it. fuckers.
Limniade
I’m waiting with breathless anticipation for the results to begin showing up on the tallies. I have today off (the tail end of a week-long vacation), and I have a feeling tomorrow will be the least productive day ever. Hopefully because I’ll be too busy celebrating an Obama win.
Brian
I’ll be at the Election celebration in Chicago. If there is a beer tent… I’ll be there. Somehow I doubt it, tho.
Ugh
come on cleek, how do you really feel about your neighbors?

@Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse:

I’d better start saving for that angioplasty.
mikesdak
I was thinking of going to the hunting lodge north of here (Pierre, South Dakota) where Dick Cheney is staying and having a few cold ones with him while we watch the results. I imagine the air will be thick with hilarity, or perhaps shotgun pellets.

Stuffed to the gills with steroids and antibiotics at the moment, so that bottle of Westvleeteren* has to wait, hopefully until Inauguration Day.

He’s already put together a new "The Conservative Underground Resistance" show opening comprised of "God damn America!" and other sound bites from the scary black men with their Satanic plans for the country.
"This is how my show will open starting tomorrow if you don’t elect McCain."
Seems like a lot of trouble to go to for an "if".

I’ll be starting in on drinking around 5pm Pacific Time.
And for the love of all things holy, can we round up all the pundits who were most spectacularly wrong this election cycle? Let’s start with Dick Morris, who early on boldly predicted that the presidential contest would be waged by Hillary Clinton for the Democrats and Condi Rice for the Republicans.
In my ideal universe, pundits who were the most useless should be banned from newspapers, airwaves and blogs for one year.
Next to go should be any pundit who wants to play Junior Psychic, predicting exactly what will happen next year or in 2012.

Some wingnuts are threatening to move to France, already.

Best Obama sign I saw today on my bike ride was on a Plumbing and HVAC truck: Trades for Obama.

So, what’s the over/under on the percentage of the population is going to be too hung over to go to work tomorrow?

Jesus H effing Christ…my comment was jacked up so I tried to fix it and that only jacked it up worse. My ineptitude should not be taken as a reflection of Wolfrum, who’s actually very funny.

Remember, it’s always 7 PM somewhere. Have at it, I say.
As for me, I will be lame live-blogging, ably assisted by my co-bloggers and Bowmore Scotch.

@TCG:
Do these wingnuts know that in France they have a real Socialist party? That has been in government and had it’s head elected as President? And that they have, shock-horror, universal healthcare?
On the good side for them, you can buy guns in the supermarket over there.

The Grand Panjandrum
I’ve already at +4 (Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale) and I plan to hit a Smuttynose Big Beer Series in a few minutes. Then I’m gonna celebrate when the election is called.
I live in a low density area so the wait wasn’t long according to the very nice ladies at the polling station. I spoke to a colleague who lives in Hanover and he said its the first time he’s ever seen that many Dartmouth undergraduates voting. Obama supporters are everywhere in Lebanon, NH. Everywhere. They are like a plague of locusts. Its unreal.
I spoke with a couple of young ladies who drove up from Boston to volunteer here in NH. I’ve seen volunteers from Maryland, New York, Mass, and CT here. They been canvassing for weeks and this morning EVERY house in Lebanon, NH had an Obama door hanger on it. EVERY house. They started about 3 AM and worked until first light.
They have knocked on almost EVERY undeclared and Demoratic voter in this state.
I’ll upload some pics and put a link to them in the comments.
random asshole
7pm? First polls close at 6pm, y’know. Drinking shall commence at 5:45.

The BBC is interviewing Jay Nordlinger from the NRO right now to present it listeners with insight into the election.
Couldn’t they have found some better than this nutter?
Comrade Jake
A tale of two voters:
The Obama voter waits in line for a few hours, casts his vote, tries to hold it together while leaving the station, passes the long line of people waiting to follow suit, makes it to his car and breaks down in tears.
The McCain voter arrives and can’t find a place to park, but takes a look at the line of voters outside, looks at who’s waiting – college kids, lots and lots of African Americans – and begins to piss his pants.
Delia
I dunno. I’m still nervous because the first thing I found in my email this morning was this truthout article from Greg Palast on how McCain can steal the election. I’m having 2004 flashbacks. I’m not gonna be able to relax until the the whole thing’s over.
Martin
Took the day off in anticipation of that outcome. And the day after, just because it’s my birthday, so I might just drink straight through…

@The Grand Panjandrum:
Your post is full of win. Thank you.

I’m going to have to save the partying until tomorrow evening when I can actually believe that it happened. I’m going to be very nervous until then.
I’ll have to celebrate with a mocha instead of a beer. I quit drinking two days after Reagan was re-elected in 1984 and three weeks after having been laid off from my job. Best decision I’ve ever made but not always the happiest one. At least I haven’t forgotten where I left my car over the last 24 years.
Hopeful
Tom
I’ll be there too. I’ll keep an eye out for you.

Here’s a poll story from TPM that’s worth reading:
Just Some Fuckhead
I just turned on election coverage for the first time today. MSNBC has some sort of fatuous carnival they are calling "Election Plaza".
Meanwhile,
Tony Orlando and DawnRick Sanchez is balancing his own hyperpartisan views with what appears to be at least one trailer park denizen.Christ, can we just get regular news on the news stations?

France? You mean that FRENCH place that has FRENCH fries and FRENCH pastry and FRENCH Kissing and other FRENCH stuff and didn’t support our war against Iraq? THAT FRANCE?
You don’t say! Hmmmm. They should go to Macedonia. Those people are overwhelmingly supporting McCain on the "If the World Could Vote" site. (sorry, don’t have a link handy).

Three things to consider toasting tonight
1) The repudiation of anti-patriotism politics. The rightists have defaulted to this mode since McCarthy-Dulles-Hoover-Nixon. Now it will be flushed for a generation.
2) Our beautiful Internet democracy. If Obama is wise he will tap into what is essentially ‘flash mobbing’ when he pushes for his changes. The power roars back to us and floods away from the rightist pols, commentariat liars and their lobbyist chums.
3) The Korner will get Krazier!
Three things to pray for:
1) That people realize the Labor Movement has a major place in our country.
2) We never again squander international or political capital.
3) That Sarah Palin remains the GOP standard-bearer for years to come.
FINALLY: We have to end warrantless wiretapping. This Bush-Demowoosy blot on the Constitution has to be expunged.

On CNN they’ve been showing this guy who has a truck load of plungers that he’s handing out in honor of Not Joe the Not Plumber.
I wondered when I saw that, does he realize plungers are for clearing shit out of pipes? An interesting thing to suggest for the INCUMBENT party.
greynoldsct00
It’s supposed to get better, they’ve drawn the map on the Rockefeller ice rink and they are going to light up all the states as votes come in – WHOOPEEE!
CarolinCA
But there are Socialists in France.
You’d think they’d prefer to move somewhere more suited to their beliefs.
Like Iraq, where they can bask in being greeted as heroes, have flowers tossed at their feet, enjoy democracy on the march…it’s perfect for them.
Xecky Gilchrist
@Delia: Well, you know, now that Sarkozy is such a big fan of the Moose Queen, things have changed :)
Heh. Plus, by 2005, the wingnuts had all forgotten why they’d been ordered to hate France anyway.

I can’t wait for polls to close so you can mock PUMA’s again. I’ve got *so* much to say about those stupid fuckers that I decided to keep to myself until it was all over for fear of alienating non-crazy Clinton people.

Drinking for me will have to wait until approximately 8:00 PM CST after the kids are in bed, at which time I will pour myself three fingers of Glenlevit neat and begin watching the election results, pausing occasionally to refill my glass until the election is called for Obama. I will also probably be folding some laundry and paying some bills, the latter of which is always more fun after a few cocktails ("Dear Comcast: Suck It!").

Something I just heard that’s worrisome. A lot of provisional ballots being given out in Ohio. And (via CNN) the Repub party there has filed some sort of legal action challenging the status of provisional ballots there. The idea is to lay the basis for a post election challenge.

Don’t you live in Cary, though, cleek? Cary is…well, it’s just so Cary. I mean, they wouldn’t let Talbot’s paint their door red. Conflicted with the All-Beige Ordinance, I guess. You can drive right by that McDonald’s near the exit and never know it was there, it’s so subtle and tasteful.
My N. Raleigh neighborhood seems very evenly split based on the yard signs. For a long time, it was just us and a black lady, but now they’re cropping up everywhere. What’s weird is that there’s about an 80% side-of-the-street division. We’re on the south side of the street so we’ve been doing a lot of South Side Represent terrorist fist jabs and other stupid white people tricks.

Why am I supposed to call my doctor if I have an election that lasts longer than 5 hours?
Ack, Sysadmin of Evil
The last hour at work today was exquisite. The head winger-in-charge had been whinging big-time about the socialist and his tax increases, etc. etc. He is a big, fat, loud-mouth Southern jerk, and he looked like he had a load in his pants; he can’t believe what is happening.
He called me in to discuss some technical questions about rebuilding a database, and asked if I could do it tonite (on my own dime from home). I just laughed and said I would be far too wasted tonight, celebrating and watching Fox to see heads explode. The look on his face was PRICELESS. I’ll be warm all winter on that.
I’m hoping to call my winger brother tonight (haven’t talked to him for quite a while now), and just laugh and laugh and hang up.
