At least my own personal dream. Erick at Red State:
I have just heard from Eric Cantor’s office that Eric will announce at 12:30 p.m. his intention to run for House Republican Whip. Cantor, elected in 2000, won his Richmond-area Congressional seat last night with 64% of the vote and received the highest total vote of any Virginia Congressman—including Democrats. (221,467 votes)
I hope he wins. I so hope he becomes the face of the GOP. Please let this happen. Harry Ellis for Minority Whip!
Bwahahahaha! When Barney Frank calls you a straight-up pussy, it’s time to quit.
Eric Cantor for President, bitches!
The Other Steve
BWAAHAHAHA!!!!! They think General David Petraeus is a Republican!
The Grand Panjandrum
Please. Please. Please. Oh, pretty please come true.
BTW That Hugh News pic of HH is awesome. Cover the bottom half of the picture (put a piece of paper over his face just below the bottom of his glass rims) and see if it doesn’t remind you of someone who is definitely NOT a conservative.
Oh God, please yes.
That asshat is so stupid I’m surprised he hasn’t swallowed his own tongue.
And he may actually come off as an even smarmier jerk than DeLay ever did.
Please please please.
Oh yes, this would be perfect with either Jack Kingston or Patrick McHenry as the deputy whip.
Look out John and Roy! The mental midgets on the backbench are coming for your jobs!

From TOS’ linked article:
"A ratings bonanza." The same way people slowing down on the freeway to rubberneck at an accident is a ratings bonanza.
What’s going on in NC? They planning a recount or something?
I noticed that Cumberland county, which includes my home town of Ft. Bragg, went 59-41 for Obama. Apparently they’re in the tank for Obama in more than one sense of the word.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
So John, does this mean you’ll be spending more time on our side of the aisle as the GOP implodes under the extremists?
I would think you would want the GOP to start coming to it’s senses, no? Is your Democrat designation more than temporary?
This is YOUR moment, YOUR time. Purge the faithless, lest ye be purged!
Eric Cantor: Forcing you to question the theory of natural selection with every sentence since 2000!
Just remembered this headline from 2004.
America is less dumb today.
@Dennis – SGMM: Actually, I’m thinking car chase where you know the guy is gonna get caught and folks are waiting on the edge of their seats with anticipation.
jake 4 that 1
Happy, happy! Joi, joi!
Dennis - SGMM
OT but, Wow!:
Obama considers stars for Cabinet
And at the same time, the "we weren’t crazy enough to win" branch of the party is taking aim at the RNC. Go for it!
Dennis - SGMM
A four year long OJ-in-the-white-Bronco chase?
The Other Steve
Barbara Starr was on this morning, reporting from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, and she indicated that the troops over there were very supportive of Obama.
I get the impression from that and other things I’ve heard that McCain actually lost the military vote, or at the very least it was much closer than elections over the past 20 or so years.
Will the extra expectations force him to close the Jerk Store?
Cantor as Whip will be epic. Imagine that whiny pseudo-Southern accent cajoling Republicans for their vote. "C’mon, you gotta vote for giving oil companies tax breaks!" And then the face time on television…it’ll be a hundred kinds of awesome.
@Dennis – SGMM: OJ? It’s like a weekly event out here in CA.
Oh yeah, definitely Cantor as major GOP leader. Even better (dumber, less likeable) than Tom Delay.
Are there any moderates left in the House GOP caucas after the election?
What’s left is even more concentrated than a ‘rump’ group, since it adjoins directly the exit portal.

I live in SoCal but I don’t watch a lot of TV in general any more and never the broadcast news. Used to drive me crazy. One year, the hills behind my house were burning and every local channel was tied up with endless helicopter shots of some yutz being chased by the Highway Patrol.
The un-dead and other surly denizens of the Funhouse now consider the GOP an even more serious competitor for laughs and screams and we will be watching for any showboating by them, and will improve our brand of churlish entertainment accordingly . We offer our Felicitations to the Wingnut Wankers for supplying horror to the American Peoples over the past eight years, but stand by our promise to do it much much cheaper.
Oh please. Oh please. Oh please. It would be like a second birthday on top of yesterday’s landslide second Christmas. I completely look forward to Erick Cantor trying to push around people 20 years his senior into giving up their votes for whatever boneheaded stunt he wants to pull next.
We’ll be looking at record defections in the House come 2010.
Dennis - SGMM
The knives will definitely be out for the GOP leadership. If Cantor gets the job we’ll know for sure that the party is going into full wingnut mode.
@Jeff: And Contessa Brewer seems to cover every single one of them, Allah bless her. Along with the loose bear in suburb alerts. Overturned school bus in Who Cares, Iowa. Construction worker trapped in rubble, NJ. House on fire in Washington.
I’m still Mika & Joe abstinent, but I do have Shuster on right now.
Next I’m going to wean myself off the 1:00pm Andrea Mitchell time slot (or maybe go cold turkey. Who can say how resolved I’ll feel tomorrow after some sleep?)
I’m pretty sure kicking the 6pm David Gregory nasty habit will be relatively painless, but I won’t know until 1:25 from now after his Whatever Whatever Pennsylvania Avenue Whatever show debuts.
If I could just moderate myself down to KO and Rachel…
God. I sound like an alcoholic who claims to be sober, but still enjoys the weekend beer binge and occasional joint "to sleep at night".
1) Admitted we were powerless over MSNBC and our lives had become unmanageable.
Obviously the Flying Spaghetti Monster loves you more than you know.
Good ol Erick. You can depend on him. When McCain selected Palin, he put up a post breathlessly titled “Awesome is made of McCain!” confidently predicting a McCain/Palin win now that hockey mom was on the bus.
Now he backs Cantor calling him a “natural leader.” Yep, as when Cantor said the bailout legislation failed the first time because Pelosi hurt his fellow R’s sensitivities and feelings. RedState…Bringing the stupid 24/7 you can believe in.
You know, Tim mocked your Peak Wingnut theory. Legitimately. I think you can soon mock his statement below of…
Yeah, right. If anything the McCain campaign showed after getting the nomination, and in many Pub congressional races, the Righty World Wankosphere runs the GOP. It’ll be awhile before intelligent life returns to leadership in that party. Prove me wrong, Winky!
The 25 percenters will demand it. Like the Southern Strategy that has now backfired on the GOP, the redrawing of repub districts after 2000, and the 1990’s is apparent. They have 100 to150 or so districts computer generated to ensure the safety of reelection for the 100% pure wingnut congresscritter.
Actually, we may find out the number to be less than 100 over subsequent election cycles. Nothing like throwing a net over yourself.
Oh Christ Jesus driving a schoolbus, NO! This just sickens me. This is the same clown who is/was pimping the autism/vaccinations connections. Wrote either a book or a lenghty article on it. He’s neither a scientist nor even a scientifically curious person. This would be a classic Mike "Brownie!" Brown Cronyism Maneuver.
No no no.
Be careful what you wish for. Smooth-talking doublespeakers who can smile and schmooze their way through brambles, poison oak, lies, and factual trainwrecks are all the rage in rightyland. For a reason.
The punditheads we all love to laugh at make their living off people like Cantor.
@Punchy: I agree. Aren’t these the same Kennedy’s against wind farms off Cape Cod because it would ruin their view?
@Comrade Stuck: Well, what will happen eventually is that you’ll get conservative Democrats who want to move up in the pecking order and will switch parties to run in Democratic-controlled districts. Sort of what we’ve done in places like Mississippi in recent years. And I have no doubt that the Republican party will be ascendant again, and sooner than I’d like–that’s just the nature of party politics. We better make hay while the sun shines, in other words.
Yes, this is true, but it will take awhile. The debate amongst democrats will be on how much hay to make, and how fast. If democrats go too fast, the conservative dems, or bluedogs will want or be forced to switch parties and join up with the new GOP, whatever it becomes. And if they go too slow, they will lose the window you speak of. But the fact that the GOP is now firmly a southern party, I think, will be harder for them break from. It took 40 years of being out of power to come together in a winning coalition. We shall see.
@Punchy: Yeah, not to mention the wholly…bizarre…claims about the 2004 election being stolen in Ohio.
Not that guy, please.
Colin Powell for Defense? No no no — he be a war criminal baby.
South of I-10
@Punchy: I’m with you Punchy.
Oh, please, please make Eric Cantor minority leader. And while you’re at it, make Michele Bachmann minority whip.
Really, GOP’ers – it’s a smart move.
(Spoken with the same amount of sincerity that Rove and Mellon-Scaife used when talking about what a respected Senator and great candidate Hillary was, and how scared they were of running McCain against her, etc.)
No republican for SecDef. Republicans never give the post to Democrats; why do democrats keep giving it to republicans?
